NJ Mayor Insists on Christmas Trees,

After his town advertised a secular "tree lighting ceremony," the mayor of Robbinsville, NJ took matters into his own hands and sent a letter to his constituents that no such thing would occur. Mayor David Fried sent an open letter to the residents of his town yesterday rejecting a title the yearly tree lighting ceremony had acquired over the years, turning from a "holiday tree" to simply a "tree lighting ceremony." The town would have a proper Christmas tree and celebrate religion, because the alternative is "just not right." Noting that the town had proudly lit up a Menorah for

This pony is raring to go. Two days before its official unveiling, blurry images of the 2015 Ford Mustang have been leaked on an enthusiast website. A member of the SVTPerformance.com forums has posted several photos of an early copy of the December 9th issue of Autoweek magazine featuring the car in a cover story. You can click here for a link to the website. If authentic, the car in the photos looks very much like many of the speculative renderings that have been circulating in recent weeks, and sports a modern take on the signature Mustang fastback design.

A Detroit family is being ripped apart after immigration officials gave a 40-year-old married mother 24 hours to leave the country despite having no criminal convictions, a husband who has lived here for decades and three U.S.-born children. Cile Precetaj, who came to the States seeking asylum 13 years ago, was ordered to report for deportation at Detroit Metro Airport at 10:30 a.m. today for a flight back to her native Albania, after receiving a letter from authorities Monday telling her to pack her bags. However, in a desperate bid to buy time, she deliberately missed the deadline, and is

Grim milestone: Obama’s job approval now

Emphasis on “average.” He’s dipped below 40 in individual polls before but never in so many at the same time that the rolling average among them brought him into the thirties. Until today. Luckily, Paul Krugman says ObamaCare’s destined to be a smash hit so this will all turn around soon. That graph shows his job approval as of early this morning, when he was at 39.9 percent. The big mystery: Would Gallup’s new approval-rating data, released every weekday at 1 p.m. ET, nudge him back over the 40 percent threshold? Nope — he ended up dropping a point in Gallup

Did Obamacare´s tech problems

David Plouffe, a former top Obama adviser still close to the White House, sees a future in which fixing the technical problems of Obamacare will give President Obama the energy and clout he needs to finally accomplish his most important second-term priority: immigration reform. "Let´s fast forward to the State of the Union and the months after that," Plouffe said on ABC on Sunday. "Health care working better, a lot of people signing up, the economy continuing to strengthen, hopefully no Washington shutdowns. I think the president´s numbers will recover, I think people´s confidence [in Obama] will recover, and then we

The University of Notre Dame on Tuesday refiled a lawsuit contesting the controversial birth control mandate under ObamaCare. The school said it believes the requirement that it provide its employees birth control as part of their insurance coverage impinges on its religious beliefs, and that efforts by the Obama administration to find a solution would not resolve the issue. Going along with the administration’s plan “would require us to forfeit our rights, to facilitate and become entangled in a program inconsistent with Catholic teaching, and to create the impression that the University cooperates with and condones activities incompatible with its mission,” Notre

For the first time in 40 years, a majority of Americans say the US plays a less important and powerful role in the world than it did a decade ago. The Pew survey also found that 70% of Americans saw the US as less respected than in the past, nearly the same (71%) as under President George W Bush. More than half of Americans (52%)--for the first time in 50 years--said the US should "mind its own business". Some 56% disapproved of President Barack Obama´s foreign policy. As adventures go, it might seem that there are few more worthy causes than fighting for the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad’s brutal dictatorship in Syria. [Snip] With the death toll now well past 100,000 after nearly three years of bloodshed, it is easy to understand why so many young men and women in the West, incensed by the Assad regime’s disregard for human life, would want to offer their services to help overthrow this vile regime. Just like the Spanish civil war in the Thirties, the Syrian conflict has all the makings of an international cause célèbre, with well-intentioned

Marco Rubio gave a speech at Chatham House today where he said something that made my ears p---k up. After telling us that he wants to see the Ukraine move towards Europe and the European Union to be stronger (at which I shook my head vigorously) he added that whatever relationship the UK wants to have with the EU is up to us--and that our decision to stay or go shouldn´t affect the Atlantic alliance. At that, my head nodded happily. It´s an important statement from this important man in two regards. First, it was obviously meant to tap into

Bonner Springs, Kan. — A middle school student is fighting back after she was banned from posting flyers promoting “See You at the Pole,” a prayer event that’s held every year at public schools across the nation. According to court documents, a school counselor ‘forcefully’ told the student, identified only as K.R., her flyers were “illegal,” citing separation of church and state. Court documents state the counselor confronted K.R. after school hours during a school dance in front of her friends. The flyers were subsequently taken down and destroyed by school staff. For as long as anyone can remember, teachers at Brooklet Elementary School have posted Christmas cards in the hallways outside their classrooms – until Monday. MSNBC has announced that Chris Matthews, Barack Obama´s most excitable fan, will be interviewing the President on Thursday´s Hardball. Fawning over the liberal politician is incredibly common among journalists, but Matthews has taken it to a whole new level. According to the network host, Obama is a "perfect," "cool," brilliant figure who is comparable to Jesus, Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. The verbose Matthews has no filter when it comes to the Democrat, even once bizarrely blurting out that an Obama speech made him "forget" that the commander in chief "was black." During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. She told KATU News, “I felt like I could help my dad with the money.” However, a private security guard hired by Portland Saturday Market blocked her path to a straighter smile by telling her to stop selling the mistletoe, citing city rules that ban conducting business or soliciting at a park

While the rest of the government prepared to shut down this fall, the State Department was busy stocking up on embassy liquor supplies. In September, the final month of the fiscal year, the State Department spent about $180,000 — and racked up a total of more than $400,000 for the whole year, three times the entire liquor tab for all of 2008. The liquor bill, split among purchase orders placed at embassies around the world, included some major last-minute pre-shutdown splurges: • $5,625 in “gratuity wine” at the embassy in Rio de Janeiro on Sept. 29, followed by $5,925 in

On Tuesday, the air raid sirens blared and the president came screaming out of the fog begging for aid. Matthews’ interview with the President of the United States will air on

After advising consumers to steer clear of Healthcare.gov in October, Consumer Reports health care expert Nancy Metcalf told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd Tuesday morning that the federal health care exchange website was improved enough following the Obama administration’s frantic month of repairs that users could confidently use it. Consumer Reports had earlier told its readers not to even bother with the website through the first month, a provisional verdict it later said had been misrepresented. “Now we’re saying, ‘it’s time,’” Metcalf said, in particular praising the new window-shopping function, in which users can peruse health plans without registering with the site.
