President Barack Obama is the perfect "Low Information President." He is not really interested very much in doing his job. He doesn´t know anything going on in his own administration. He is always the last to know. He learns important developments only when he reads about it in the newspaper, apparently after first reading the sports section. But Obama is keenly interested in basketball. He has turned his NCAA championship "brackets" predictions chart into a presidential event.(snip)The Commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA) David Stern is retiring at the end of this year. Four U.S. Marines were killed Wednesday during a range maintenance operation at Camp Pendleton in California, the base said in a press release. The base did not provide any other details on what it called a “fatal incident,” but said it would release the names of those killed after their families were notified. The Marines were clearing the range of unexploded ordnance, and it was not a live firing range, a Marine official said. (Snip)A military investigation determined human error was to blame for that accident. According to the probe´s findings, a Marine operating a 60 mm mortar tube and

The USS George Washington aircraft carrier arrived in the Philippines Thursday to boost international efforts to bring aid and relief to the people of the typhoon-devastated region, many of whom have been without much food and clean water for six days. The ship is part of the U.S. Navy´s 7th Fleet and is accompanied by seven other ships that make up the George Washington Strike Group. The aircraft carrier has a crew of 5,500 and brings with it 21 helicopters, which can be used to ferry goods to hard-to-reach areas where people have seen no aid since typhoon Haiyan hit Friday.

Underscoring that he can be both President Obama´s best friend and one of his worst enemies, Bill Clinton said this week that the president should make good on his promise to let everyone in the individual market keep their health plan. Clinton didn´t offer any ideas on how that might work, but his dissent emboldened fellow Democrats to speak out against the clunky Obamacare rollout. Now with House Democrats threatening to vote for a Republican plan that would gut the Affordable Care Act, the Obama administration said Wednesday that it´s willing to accept a Senate proposal that would merely hurt

WASHINGTON — U.S. agencies collected and shared the personal information of thousands of Americans in an attempt to root out untrustworthy federal workers that ended up scrutinizing people who had no direct ties to the U.S. government and simply had purchased certain books. Federal officials gathered the information from the customer records of two men who were under criminal investigation for purportedly teaching people how to pass lie detector tests. The officials then distributed a list of 4,904 people – along with many of their Social Security numbers, addresses and professions – to nearly 30 federal agencies, including the Internal

The White House finally released its much anticipated enrollment numbers on Wednesday, revealing that some 106,000 Americans selected insurance policies on the state and federal health exchanges in October, the first month those marketplaces went live. While the report offers some insight into the demand for the new policies – about 1.5 million people have applied for coverage – it lacks specific information, like who is enrolling and how many people have actually purchased plans. In order to determine how Obamacare is really shaping up, the administration must answer these four crucial questions: 1. How many people are actually purchasing

On Nov. 7, Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, along with subcommittee chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, sent the White House a letter requesting testimony from top Obama aides Nancy-Ann DeParle and Jeanne Lambrew. Both are leading figures shaping the White House position in Obamacare design and implementation. Issa wanted them to appear at a Nov. 20 hearing on the so-far disastrous rollout of the president´s national health care scheme. "As the principal health policy advisor during the passage and early implementation of Obamacare, your testimony is vital for helping Congress understand the administration´s preparation

"We´re getting calls into our call center saying, hey, I can´t get on the website, and our response is, you know, we don´t have anything to do with it. That is totally the federal government," Hudgens says. Georgia is one of 26 states that is not running a state health exchange for Obamacare. Hudgens says he advised Governor Nathan Deal on that decision, and now that the Federal Health Exchange is having problems, Hudgens stands by his advice. "I´m not an Obamacare fan at

Approval numbers also dipped in Gallup´s Nov. 7-10 poll: Only 40 percent said they like the law, down from 44 percent in late October. Currently, 73 percent of Democrats, 39 percent of independents, and 8 percent of Republicans approve of the healthcare law.

On Wednesday, Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) introduced a bill in the Senate that would allow Americans to keep their health insurance plans for a limit of two years. “I have repeatedly said that the Affordable Care Act isn’t perfect,” Udall said, “and it will need to be improved as it is implemented.” Udall already wants to push off the open enrollment deadline on the Obamacare health exchanges until the end of May. But Udall’s plan isn’t the only one in the offing. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) has introduced the “Keeping the Affordable Care Act Promise Act,” co-sponsored by Sens. Dianne

They were the first shots fired in the civil war that is about to break wide open within the Democratic Party. The hyperventilating media have gone from simply jaundiced sideline observers to outright cheerleaders, breathlessly fanning the flames of discord within the GOP at every turn.

Mavis Batey, who has died aged 92, was one of the leading female codebreakers at Bletchley Park, cracking the Enigma ciphers that led to the Royal Navy’s victory at Matapan in 1941. She was the last of the great Bletchley “break-in” experts, those codebreakers who found their way into new codes and ciphers that had never been broken before. Mavis Batey also played a leading role in the cracking of the extraordinarily complex German secret service, or Abwehr, Enigma. Without that break, the Double Cross deception plan which ensured the success of the D-Day landings could never have gone ahead.

In his 2007 biography of Barack Obama, Obama: From Promise to Power, Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendell described the exchange he had with then-Illinois state Sen. Barack Obama just minutes before he delivered the keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston: After Obama and I slipped through a security checkpoint and he momentarily broke free from the entourage, I sidled up to him and told him that he seemed to be impressing many people of influence in this rarefied atmosphere. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, you’d have to have a heart of stone not to laugh at the unraveling of Obamacare. First, the obligatory caveats. It is no laughing matter that millions of Americans’ lives have been thrown into anxious chaos as they lose their health insurance, their doctors, their money, or all three. Nor is it particularly amusing to think of the incredible waste of time and tax dollars that has gone into Obamacare’s construction. And the still-unfolding violence that this misbegotten legislation will visit on the economy and our liberties is not funny either. This very magazine has been downright

He was sorry the website had crashed, sorry his approval numbers were down around 40 percent, sorry the Democrats coming up for election next year were starting to panic, and sorry his

Something is seriously wrong with conservatism. Since Ronald Reagan’s last year in office, Republicans have only twice won a majority of votes cast for president—both times with a George Bush atop the ticket. And neither Bush was a conservative. For 25 years, something has prevented conservatives from winning the White House and prevented the Republicans who do win from governing as conservatives. What could it be? The Tea Party has an answer: RINOs—liberal Republicans in Name Only—have sabotaged the right, most recently in October when they collaborated with Democrats to raise the debt ceiling and end the government shutdown. Once RINOs are

Kip Macy, 39, and his wife, Nicole Macy, also 39, were deemed "landlords of hell" by authorities for menacing the tenants of their San Francisco apartment building. "Well, they were trying to terrorize the tenants so they would leave," Gascon told ABC News´ "20/20". "There was absolutely no other way to explain what they were doing."
