The Obama administration is beginning to resemble a damaged car windshield: A small ding from an unexpected flying pebble turns into a spider web of cracks, leaving the windshield difficult to see through and dangerously unstable. Given the years of failure of both domestic and foreign policy, and the many real scandals born of this administration’s incompetence and corruption, it is a measure of the stubborn refusal of the mainstream media to behave as journalists that the first cracks have been caused by the rollout of the Obama administration’s proudest “achievement,” the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
Here’s the ObamaCare rollout in two sentences: Millions of Americans are losing their health insurance policies because of the law. And many of the soon to be uninsured can’t sign up for the new federal benefits because the Obama administration screwed up its Web site. Yikes. It’s no wonder conspiracy theorists on the right are convinced that it’s all on purpose. The straightforward answer – that thousands of federal employees working under the direction of leader of the Free World for 52 months to prepare for the launch could fail so epically – defeats the imagination even of those who have made
On Tuesday’s broadcast of Hugh Hewitt’s radio show, MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough hammered President Barack Obama for what he called lies during the sales job for his 2010 health care law. Scarborough was asked by Hewitt if he had any idea how many people would ultimately lose their health care coverage because of that law. Scarborough replied by saying many more Americans would be impacted by that law than what then-President George W. Bush had said in his 2003 state of the union speech regarding Iraq trying to procure yellow cake uranium from Niger.
These days, many are saying that Americans are profoundly divided, in a way that we haven’t seen in a long time. That might be true. But it seems to me that our electorate is as much confused as divided. Some of the current data at Rasmussen Reports illustrate the point. It is useful, I think, to look at multiple data points from the same source, so that differing results are not attributable, presumably, to polling techniques or skewed samples. Rasmussen asks the question: Do you agree more politically with President Obama, or with the average member of the Tea Party? A
President Barack Obama’s glitch-ridden Obamacare website rollout has plunged him into a personal anxiety never before seen during his presidency, a professional body-language expert told The Daily Caller. “Basically, we’re seeing an Obama that we’ve never seen before,” body language expert Dr. Lillian Glass told TheDC. “Body language-wise, he looks tentative. He looks down. We see an embarrassed Obama.” Glass recognized signs of great distress in the president’s posture and lower jaw in his recent speech acknowledging Obamacare website failures and in other recent public appearances. “He’s not as confident as he once was. It’s really taking its toll on
The latest Let’s Move! event is brought to you by the letter K. As in K Street. On Wednesday, first lady Michelle Obama will be joined by Sesame Street’s Elmo and Rosita to unveil a new marketing effort aimed at making healthier foods more appealing to children.Representatives from the Produce Marketing Association will be there too. The first lady’s two signature policy initiatives — the Let’s Move! childhood obesity effort and the veteran-focused Joining Forces — have earned her bipartisan praise and buoyed her popularity among Americans. Those efforts have been developed in close cooperation with some of K Street
President Barack Obama recently ordered the National Security Agency to curtail eavesdropping on the United Nations headquarters in New York as part of a review of U.S. electronic surveillance, according to a U.S. official familiar with the decision. Obama´s order is the latest known move by the White House to limit the NSA´s vast intelligence collection, in the wake of protests by allies, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, over U.S. spying on foreign heads of state.
The St. Louis Cardinals had a tough time getting back to Boston for the World Series. Manager Mike Matheny says mechanical problems delayed the team flight on Tuesday, forcing them to arrive about 6 hours late. Game 6 is Wednesday night, with the Red Sox leading the Series three games to two. The players and their families sat on the tarmac for about six hours before their plane finally took off after 9 p.m. Tuesday. Cardinals second baseman Matt Carpenter was among the players tweeting from the plane.
President, and before, candidate Obama had the benefit of saying things that the media never challenged. It´s true that they were challenged by the GOP but that is partisan. What we did not have was an aggressive, but respectful media. He was going to close GITMO was one of the early promises. He even signed an executive order to close it within a year. But GITMO is still open and will likely stay open the day that President Obama flies home to Chicago in early 2017. I´m not good at predictions but I can predict today that #45 will inherit
Ronan Farrow is already in MSNBC mid-season form. Farrow, the son of actress Mia Farrow and Woody Allen, is set to debut his own MSNBC talk show early next year. His latest political comments, though, find him boosting the image of the Clintons in a way that even the far-left network might not embrace. They´re nimble politicians. Also I think that they represent a style of honesty that the public craves right now. And that´s reflected in the numbers. I think people are tired of the old school politicking, and when a politician comes out and says, “Actually, I changed my
WASHINGTON -- In thermodynamics, entropy is a measure of the energy unavailable for useful work. It is (and, yes, I had to look it up) both a reflection of disorder and a trend line; an isolated system proceeds in the direction of maximum entropy. The description feels disconcertingly apt for the chaotic reality of the Obama administration´s second term. That part I didn´t have to look up. It´s swirling all around. Let me start by conceding the exception to the entropic rule: the president´s steady handling of the debt ceiling/shutdown. The chaos there was confined to the other side.
Bill Maher on Tuesday made what people on both sides of the aisle will say is an extraordinary prediction coming from a Tea Party hater like him. Appearing on CNN´s Piers Morgan Tonight, Maher said Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.) has a shot at becoming president in 2016 and will be very difficult to beat in the Republican primaries (video follows with transcript and commentary):BILL MAHER: But if you’re asking about Ted Cruz and being president, I think I, I don´t know what her answer was on that, but I think he’s got a shot because I think he has an
Democrat Terry McAuliffe leads Republican Kenneth T. Cuccinelli II by 4 points in the Virginia governor’s race, according to a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday — a considerably narrower margin than other recent public polling has shown. The businessman and former chairman of the Democratic National Committee leads Mr. Cuccinelli, the state’s attorney general, 45 percent to 41 percent, the poll showed, with 9 percent of likely voters opting for Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis. That lead is down from a 46 percent to 39 percent advantage for Mr. McAuliffe in a Quinnipiac poll last week, when Mr. Sarvis was at 10
As millions of people receive notices that their health insurance is being canceled, the White House said Tuesday that President Obama didn’t mislead the public when he repeatedly and emphatically promised that everyone could keep their plan under Obamacare. Top aides to the president said that, although Mr. Obama never mentioned it specifically, his promise referred only to people who have had uninterrupted health insurance coverage dating back to before the law’s enactment in 2010. The Obama administration knew years in advance that Obamacare’s “grandfathering” regulation would wipe out many Americans’ existing health insurance plans, according to a leaked draft of a 2010 administration document. “As noted earlier, deciding to relinquish grandfather status is a one-way sorting process: after some period of time, most plans will relinquish their grandfathered status since plans rarely stay exactly the same. These interim final regulations will likely influence the time frame over which plan sponsors decide to relinquish grandfathered status,” according to a June 2010 copy of “grandfather plan” regulations that was leaked to the public domain before the administration
HealthCare.gov contractor CGI warned the Obama administration that the website might not be ready just one month before launch, CNN reported Tuesday night.CNN obtained a memo from CGI, the main contractor that built HealthCare.gov, informing administration officials that the site wasn’t finished and wouldn’t be by Oct. 1, but Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) officials claimed again just Monday that they had no knowledge of the problems.A whole slew of problems were named in the Sept. 6 memo sent to CMS officials, including that “hub services are intermittently unavailable” –a key indicator that the site could face outages. Testing
Conservatives are expressing shock and outrage that the Obama administration knew that many people in the individual insurance market would not be able to keep their plans once the Affordable Care Act took effect. Such shock is not surprising; overblown outrage is the stock and trade of conservative politics these days. But here´s what conservatives won´t tell you, lest it undermine their theatrics: Many insurance plans are shutting down because they don´t meet the higher bar of quality benefits required under Obamacare, and of those people who lose access to their plans, many will pay less and all will have better
Chinese officials have captured several suspects in connection with Monday´s deadly car crash in Tiananmen Square, state media report. Police have described the incident as a "terror attack" for the first time, state broadcaster CCTV said. Police had been looking for at least eight people, mostly from the restive Xinjiang region, earlier reports said. The incident, in which a vehicle crashed into a crowd and burst into flames, killed five. "The arrests were made 10 hours after the incident, which has now been identified as a terrorist attack," CCTV said on its verified microblog account. At least five suspects in relation to the incident
From Florida to California, consumers are getting notices their health plans are cancelled. They were promised they could keep their plan if they liked it. That was a lie. They’ve been duped and dropped. The liar is none other than the President of the United States. On June 15, 2009, President Obama told a town hall meeting that “No matter how we reform healthcare, we will keep this promise…. if you like your healthcare plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period. No one will take it away. No matter what.”
The recent government shutdown was, as to be expected, a time of great joy for the assassins in the mainstream media; revolted as they are by Republicans and enamored with big government. But a funny thing happened on the way to their latest lynching of folks like Ted Cruz. It turns out that the GOP was both justified in the reason for the shutdown and correct in their assessment of the character of President Barack Obama and friends. Because with the typical short-sighted megalomania and overweening hubris they have displayed for the past five years, the Obama Administration refused to negotiate
Although federal officials have known for at least three years that Obamacare would cause millions of Americans to lose health insurance coverage, that didn’t stop President Obama from lying repeatedly, reassuring voters the law would not adversely impact their existing coverage. In an uncharacteristically media-savvy move aimed at capitalizing on current affairs, Republicans compiled a list of 13 Democrats –including Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.)– who deceived voters by obediently repeating Obama’s lies.
Prince Charles courted controversy last night by blaming the Syrian conflict on mismanagement of the country’s natural resources. In a speech to leading members of the Islamic community, he claimed President Assad’s bloody war against his own people was in part caused by drought and mishandling of the rural economy. The prince blamed the same problem for other recent global conflicts, and although he did not name any in particular, many will take them to include Britain’s forays in Iraq and Afghanistan. Charles, who recently sparked division after hitting out at Britain’s ‘failing’ pensions industry, said:
U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius is allergic to the truth. She is the ruthless enforcer of Obamacare’s Jenga tower of lies upon lies upon lies. Now that this fatally flawed government edifice is collapsing, you can expect Sebelius to do what she has done her entire career: blame, bully and pile on more lies. Three years ago, when insurers and other companies had the audacity to expose Obamacare’s damage to their customers and workers, Sebelius brought out her brass knuckles. Remember? As I reported at the time, the White House coordinated a demonization campaign against Anthem Blue
New documents have been released showing that one of the top contractors warned President Obama´s team that the health care website was facing fatal flaws in the weeks before it was launched. In the September 6 report, the tech contractors explicitly lay out the fact that they have ´limited testing timeframes´ and classify it in the highest of terms, saying that it was a ´near certainty´ that there would be problems as a result. They go on to warn of the dangers that lie in only testing ten predetermined scenarios and a lack of both time and necessary engineering programs.
