Jen Senko is a filmmaker who watched in horror as her father slowly came to believe the extreme right-wing lies of Rush Limbaugh and other conservative media mavens. Now she’s making a documentary about it calledThe Brainwashing of My Dad. Senko’s first documentary, Road Map Warrior Women, won recognition with several festival awards. Her most recent film, The Vanishing City, co-directed with Fiore DeRosa, exposes the economic policies that have made New York a city for the rich. The Vanishing City won Best Feature Documentary in the Williamsburg International Film Festival, Best Short Documentary in the Harlem International Film Festival, and

Is your boss crazy? Probably not, but if you seriously think that he might be crazy, he is very likely a psychopath. Psychopathy and psychosis are often confused with one another but are radically different. Psychotics are irrational, with a thinking disorder. Psychopaths are quite rational but have a personality disorder, able to make themselves appear quite attractive when they want something, such as getting out of jail or being promoted to the head of a large corporation. At other times, psychopaths may want to intimidate or control someone, and then they make themselves appear enraged or irrational, so that

On health care, the president´s pile of broken promises keeps getting higher. Consider this gem from Aug. 20, 2009: “Let´s be clear about the fact that nobody has proposed anything close to a government takeover of health care.” Well, yes, somebody did. President Obama is now well on his way to orchestrating the federal government´s takeover of Americans´ health care. Commandeering the resources of major federal departments, particularly the Department of Health and Human Services and the IRS, the administration and its allies in Congress have created numerous federal bureaus, commissions and programs and have issued thousands of pages of rules, regulations,

An Orange County man who had fought with Syrian rebels against the Assad regime was arrested Friday morning as he tried to leave the U.S. with a fake passport to fight for al Qaeda against U.S. soldiers overseas, said authorities. Twenty-four-year-old Sinh Vinh Ngo Nguyen of Garden Grove, also known as Hasan Abu Omar Ghannoum, was stopped at a bus station in Santa Ana, Calif. at 7:30 a.m. by members of the Los Angeles Joint Terrorism Task Force and arrested on suspicion of providing material support to al Qaeda. According to a grand jury indictment, Nguyen, a U.S. citizen, lied about

?Professors at campuses across the nation have been quick to lay blame for the government shutdown. And they are not blaming Barack Obama or the Democrats. University of Pennsylvania Associate Professor Anthea Butler claimed on twitter that racism against President Obama was responsible for the shutdown stating that a previous shutdown had taken place under the leadership of “fake black president Clinton” but this time Republicans have a “real black president to mess with.” ?Assistant Professor Rachel Slocum at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse sent students in her geography class an email stating that “some of the data gathering assignment will

Self-proclaimed Biblical scholar Joseph Atwill has written a book in which he claims that Jesus was fabricated by a little-known group called the Flavians. He also claims he has some sort of “smoking gun” type of “confession” from these ancient people that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that they entered into a conspiracy with the Roman government of the time to fabricate a character called Jesus as a “gentle Messiah” figure to wage psychological warfare on, and control, the masses so they would pay Caesar taxes without complaining. He is apparently going to present this evidence at a

So you´re one of those Democrats that -- with a sense of moral outrage -- demand a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling and fund ObamaCare. Here´s the problem. Since 1978, the debt ceiling was raised 55 times, and in over half those legislative struggles, there was no clean bill sent forward. Debt ceiling votes are an opportunity to manipulate the legislative agenda. In 1984, the Democrats voted en mass to prevent the debt ceiling from being raised, saying they would not let Republicans walk away from their debt. The debt at the time was a mere 1.8 trillion,

"At the end of the day, you´re fighting legislation that´s already passed," said former South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson, describing the fight to defund the health care law [ObamaCare] as a lost cause. Dawson may want to trot down to the state capitol in Columbia to pick up one of those nifty pamphlets that educate kids (in the simplest terms) about the legislative process. Last Saturday American Thinker published a piece called ´The Next Prime Minister´s Marxist Father´. The article was about the leader of the UK´s Labour Party and his Marxist father, Ralph Miliband. It was also about the strong and widespread reaction to what the popular British newspaper, the Daily Mail, had written on this father-and-son political relationship. One defender of Ralph Miliband -- a fellow Marxist called Michael Newman (Miliband´s biographer) -- made a statement which could quite easily be deemed nonsensical. He said that Ralph Miliband "wanted a different kind of Britain" but that he, nonetheless, "wasn´t against Britain". I see. This

As another debt ceiling showdown approaches in the midst of a government shutdown, people can cool their heels, knowing there will be no default. This is just one more sideshow in a "theater of the absurd" procession of impasses that include the S&P rating downgrade of U.S. debt, the fiscal cliff and the sequester rankling episodes. The media have played up similar past crises, often politicizing and dramatizing each one as though it were distinct and separate. But they consistently miss connecting the dots and explaining that each crisis is part of a continuum of the same problem that keeps moving

One thing you have to remember about Obamacare is that much of the financial pain, such as steep penalties, is back ended so that by the time people wake up to reality, the law has been operating for years and it’s too late. Here’s yet another example, the subsidies for state exchanges disappear in 2015, and that’s going to bust state budgets. My formerly home state of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is finding out how painful the end of those subsidies will be for HealthSourceRI, via ProJo, HealthSource RI proposes $26 million spending plan: Rhode Island’s new Obamacare-mandated online health insurance

Earlier this year, when the House of Representatives was considering an abortion restriction, Democrats repeatedly invoked the argument that terminating pregnancy is a right enshrined in the foundational document of our government. President Obama has repeatedly made this claim as well, calling abortion a woman’s “fundamental constitutional right.” The argument, however, rests not on the text of the Constitution, which never mentions abortion explicitly, but on a series of decisions by the Supreme Court, originating in two simultaneous cases from 1973, Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. As a result, the strength of the Democratic argument that abortion is a

NEW YORK –Two rabbis face kidnapping charges after allegedly arranging assaults of Orthodox Jewish husbands to persuade them to grant divorces to their wives, authorities said Thursday. FBI raids on Wednesday night led to the arrest of the men, who were arraigned in federal court in New Jersey on Thursday, according to court documents. A criminal complaint alleges that the rabbis charged Jewish wives tens of thousands of dollars to orchestrate kidnappings and accepted $20,000 for such an operation from undercover FBI agents. Their goal? To obtain "gets," a document that Jewish law requires a husband to present to his wife in order

The Tea Party-inspired drive to derail Obamacare is anchored in a place where opposition to the federal government is as old as the nation: the American South. The current fight, a budget standoff that threatens the creditworthiness of the U.S, has vestiges of the secession from the union that started in South Carolina and led to the Civil War. It carries echoes of the nullification crisis over tariffs in the 1830s and the so-called massive resistance movement to oppose desegregation of public schools in the 1950s. In each of those fights, led by Democrats who then dominated the region, Southerners said
