RUSH: We´ve got Greg on the phone from Louisville. Greg, great to have you. Hi. CALLER: Hi, Rush. Great show. Enjoy your show. RUSH: Thank you very much. Appreciate that. CALLER: I´m calling about these journalists that President Obama invited to the White House a couple of days ago, and they´re conservative journalists, and I guess they were all conservative journalists who had criticized Senator Cruz and Senator Lee and Senator Paul who´ve been fighting to defund Obamacare. It´s interesting, it seems like it´s a strategy to try to drive a wedge in the Republican Party and try to ostracize Senator Cruz and
RUSH: Martinsburg, West Virginia. Hi, Ray. Great to have you with us, sir. Hello. CALLER: Hello, Rush. It´s an honor to speak with you. RUSH: I appreciate that. Thank you, sir. CALLER: I just wanted to make a comment. I think there´s been a demographic shift in the political parties that either people have ignored or haven´t identified. RUSH: What´s that, women running everything? CALLER: (laughing) Well, part of that. But what I believe happened is during the Clinton years you had a known group that everybody referred to as the conservative Democrats, and what happened during the Clinton years was they became disenfranchised with
RUSH: So there´s Jay Carney out there saying that Obama´s happy that Boehner has offered a short-term extension of the debt limit. And then he said that shut down over Obamacare is a fool´s errand. Yeah, well, maybe from Obama´s standpoint, but if it hadn´t been for the effort to do this, we wouldn´t even be here now, and we wouldn´t have had a chance to expose Obama and the Democrats for who and what they really are, which is what this is really all about to me. By the way, welcome back, folks. El Rushbo here. 800-282-2882 the e-mail address,
President Obama opposed passage of funding for veterans´ death benefits because the Fisher House Foundation has agreed to cover the costs, according to his spokesman. "The legislation is not necessary," White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters Thursday when asked about legislation approved by the House and Senate that would pay for those benefits. "Our view has been, this piecemeal funding is, again, a gimmick."
Scott Carpenter, the fourth U.S. astronaut to fly in space and the second to orbit the Earth, died Thursday at a Denver hospice. Carpenter’s wife, Patty, confirmed his death to Fox News. Carpenter, 88, reportedly had recently suffered a stroke. He was chosen in 1959 to be one of NASA’s first astronauts and flew on his one and only space mission on May 24, 1962, circling the Earth three times while conducting scientific experiments.
Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter will step down as the Pentagon´s No. 2 official in December, according to the Pentagon. Carter informed Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel that he has decided to leave the department on Dec. 6, the Defense Department chief said on Thursday. (Snip) As the Pentagon´s deputy chief, Carter spearheaded efforts to rein in costs and excessive spending in the department´s expansive weapons development programs, an effort he began as the department´s top weapons buyer under former Defense Secretary Robert Gates. He also drafted the department´s new strategy to deal with the massive, across-the-board budget cuts under the
President Obama’s rhetoric is finally coming closer to what appears to be his psychological truth: Because America victimized him and countless millions of others, any person or party or movement that opposes his views and does not yield to him is not just his adversary, but abusive, predatory and even threatening. Again and again, President Obama has described members of Congress who insist on fiscal responsibility as having taken “hostages,” “demanding a ransom,” using “extortion,” and threatening to “blow up” the government. On Tuesday, in fact, the president used these exact words when speaking to the press, “What you haven´t seen
Until about 18 hours ago, it had been Republican orthodoxy on Capitol Hill to oppose any raising of the debt limit that did not also include provisions for spending restraint or some other form of fiscal discipline. The whole point of the 2011 debt limit negotiations -- the talks that led to sequestration spending cuts -- was to strengthen the precedent for requiring spending controls as part of any debt limit agreement. But now, House Speaker John Boehner has signed on to a proposal that would raise the debt ceiling, at least in the short term, without any corresponding cuts.
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei— U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday that he has canceled a scheduled trip to the Philippines due to the threat posed by tropical storm Nari. Forecasters say the storm could strike the northern Philippines as a typhoon as early as Friday, bringing strong winds and heavy rains. Kerry had planned to meet with Philippine officials in Manila on Friday and Saturday. It was to be the last stop in a Southeast Asia tour that began in Indonesia; on Thursday, Kerry flew from Brunei to Malaysia. Kerry made the announcement as he wrapped up his
You know the ObamaCare debut isn´t going well when a pair of supporters, Nick Wing and Jeffrey Young of the Puffington Host, pen an article with the headline "9 Valid Concerns We Can All Have About Obamacare, Without Thinking It Will Literally Bring Hell on Earth." Talk about damning with faint praise! Actually, let´s dwell on that headline for a moment. As much as some people hate ObamaCare, nobody thinks it will literally bring hell on earth. We say that with confidence because literal hell on earth is a contradiction in terms. When hell is understood as a physical place, it
Leaks have consequences. Just ask Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan, who was kidnapped in retaliation for allowing the United States to carry out a special operations raid in Tripoli that captured a senior al-Qaeda leader, Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, known as Abu Anas al-Libi. How did the kidnappers know that the prime minister had approved the raid? After all, his government denied any prior knowledge of the U.S. action. Simple: The Obama administration told them. A front-page story in the New York Times, “U.S. Officials Say Libya Approved Commando Raids,” reported that “After months of lobbying by American officials, the Libyans
One of the TV´s priciest daytime experiments soon could be coming to an end. Stations throughout the U.S. are contracted to carry Katie Couric´s syndicated talk show through summer 2014, but the decision on whether Katie will score a third season likely will be made this month -- and renewal seems a long shot. In fall 2012, Disney/ABC TV rolled out the red carpet for Couric, 56, giving her plum time slots on the best stations, fat license fees and loads of promotion. The initial annual budget was $50 million, according to a show source -- including $20 million for Couric
The government shutdown has shuttered all the monuments and park services in D.C. And signs like this are littered all over the city, demanding that people stay out of the beautiful parks FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY. 1. But look at these radicals who are blatantly defying the federal government by having a stroll and eating lunch in a CLOSED PARK. 2. Check out these anarchists wandering around this grassy field in front of the Washington Monument. “Uhhhh… guys?” 3. Who are these reprobates?
Americans should be grateful for the beneficence of our betters. Without the expert orders of experts, what a shambles they make of their everyday lives. Witness how well-run the Federal government is, and just imagine how much more one could benefit by silently sitting back and giving up all control. No more mental effort, no worries, no struggle; just Social Justice and bliss, all the time.
Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer continued his criticism of Sen. Ted Cruz on Thursday, asking “where is he now?” “How exactly was he going to achieve abolition of Obamacare? Explain that to me. Has he ever explained it? And where is he now?” Krauthammer said on “The Laura Ingraham Show.” Krauthammer, who has previously hit Cruz (R-Texas) on the strategy of shutdown to defund Obamacare, included Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) in his questioning and said the two went home to “have lunch.” “I mean his sidekick, Senator [Mike] Lee said, ‘Oh, we’re past Obamacare. We moved on.’ These are the generals
For the third year in a row, Wyoming has fostered the nation’s best business climate, thanks to low rates on corporate and personal income taxes made possible by a booming oil industry, according to a new report from the Tax Foundation. In fact, six of the top 10 states with the best business climate are western states, bolstered at least in part by new revenues from energy production that allows them to reduce other types of taxes. In many cases, the top-ranked states omit at least one major stream of revenue altogether, such as an income tax or a sales
Everywhere across America, the People wake to the injustices of a government grown so large, so powerful and so intimidating that it threatens the very rights it was constituted to protect. No longer asleep or apathetic, they turn to one another to ask: ‘How can we stop this? What should we do?’ Before exploring tactics for small group action, are you writing, calling and e-mailing your Representatives, imploring and demanding they vote your way, insisting on a written response? It does work.
The discovery of the bodies of two soldiers from a First World War battlefield high up in the Dolomites in Italy has renewed concerns about the rapid melting of Europe´s glaciers as a result of global warming. The area was the scene of bitter mountain warfare between Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces, in a theatre of the First World War which was described by Ernest Hemingway in A Farewell to Arms. The two soldiers, believed to have been members of an artillery unit in the Austro-Hungarian army, lay interred in snow and ice for nearly 100 years, after being killed in fierce fighting with Italian forces, probably in May 1918.
Republicans accused the Pentagon on Thursday of willfully misinterpreting a military pay law meant to ensure families of fallen soldiers get death benefits. They said legislation they passed in the hours before the shutdown allows the Pentagon to pay out the $100,000 death gratuity payment. By not making the payments, the administration is trying to make the shutdown more painful to people, Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.) said Thursday. “The political objective was to inflict as much harm as you possibly could in your own department," Coffman said at a House Armed Services hearing on the measure Thursday. “The Department of
Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton has admitted that her famously diplomatic parents don´t hold back when pressuring her into having a baby. On Friday´s episode of Rachael Ray, Clinton spills the beans about Bill and Hillary´s ´completely unapologetic´ desire for a grandchild. ´They would tell you without blinking an eye that it would make them the happiest thing on earth if I were to make them grandparents,´ said Clinton, who also dished on her first kiss while living in the White House. Clinton, who married Marc Mezvinsky in 2010, tells Rachael Ray her in-laws aren´t nearly as insistent,
Six months after Greg Pembroke launched the hit Tumblr account Reasons My Son Is Crying documenting his kids´ hilarious temper tantrums, the upstate New York dad has become a published author. Pembroke´s new book titled Reasons My Kid Is Crying features photos of toddlers sent to him by parents from around the world in the midst of epic meltdowns, supplemented by tongue-in-cheek captions explaining why the kids weep. One of the photos featured in the book shows a boy wailing next to a little girl sitting inside a supermarket shopping cart above a caption that reads: ‘He didn´t want to
The Senate immigration bill would add 17 million new potential voters to the U.S. within 25 years, according to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies, released Thursday that argues the influx could have a major effect on American politics. That 17 million is in addition to the 15 million already built in from existing immigration levels through 2036, the researchers said. By comparison, the last four presidential elections were decided by an average of 4.5 million voters. Not all of those 17 million will definitely become citizens. The center’s research looked at those who would be of voting age
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel admitted he was ´embarrassed´ that the current government shutdown had caused death benefits for the families of fallen military to be suspended - as one of the fathers of the dead soldiers said that he was couldn´t believe that members of Congress are still getting paid during the shutdown. Attending a ceremony at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware on Wednesday marking the return of the bodies of four U.S. soldiers killed by insurgents in Afghanistan on Sunday, Hagel stood in silence as the impasse between the White House and Congress shamed leaders on both sides.
Washington- The White House said Thursday that President Barack Obama would consider signing a short-term deal raising the debt ceiling, depending on the details of what Republican lawmakers propose. "The president is happy that cooler heads at least seem to be prevailing in the House, that there at least seems to be a recognition that default is not an option," White House spokesman Jay Carney said. But Carney did not guarantee that Obama would sign the short-term debt limit deal offered by Republicans, saying the White House had seen no details of the plan. "We will see what the House
President Barack Obama’s senior White House adviser and former campaign manager David Plouffe accused House Republicans of “committing economic treason” during the partial government shutdown on Thursday. In a snarky tweet about Republicans’ attempts to negotiate an end to the government shutdown, Plouffe dredged up the “birther” issue in order to discredit the GOP: [Tweet] Republicans and Democrats could not come to an agreement on how to fund the government by the start of the month, forcing the government to partially shut down. House Republicans have repeatedly said they will pass a continuing resolution if it comes with measures that defund,
