On Friday, Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling released a poll of Alaskans asking them whom they preferred for the presidency: Rand Paul, Sarah Palin, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, or George Zimmerman? Yes, that George Zimmerman – the acquitted shooter of Trayvon Martin. Why George Zimmerman, a registered Democrat who voted for President Obama in 2008? And why would PPP list Zimmerman, 29, in polls for a presidential election in which he wouldn´t even be eligible, at 44 years old? Because, PPP explained to TheBlaze,

I just wanted to get back to what you´re saying about how it´s dangerous and sad that people are cynical about these threats in the Middle East, and I think that that gets to a broader pessimism and cynicism in American life and culture today. Washington - Postmenopausal women who take certain blood pressure medications for 10 years or more face twice the risk of developing breast cancer, US researchers said Monday. Women who took calcium channel blockers saw a 2.4 to 2.6-fold higher risk of breast cancer than women who did not take hypertension medication, said the research in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study was observational and did not get into the reasons behind the increase, but experts said the findings may have major public health implications. Connecticut has so many advantages that it might be hard to understand how it became one of America’s worst-performing state economies. As we know, Connecticut is located along an important commercial corridor between New York and Boston. It’s well-served by railroads and highways. Major airports are accessible. Connecticut has many charming towns, historic sights, stylish shops and nice beaches. CNN determined that of America’s 25 towns with the highest median family incomes, four are in Connecticut – New Canaan (#1), Darien (#2), Westport (#5) and Greenwich (#14).

RUSH: Matt Drudge has one of the funniest pictures on his home page, a picture that portrays something people my age actually had to do. The story is about the threats that have closed our embassies around the world for now a week, not just a day yesterday, but the whole week. The picture is a black and white from the fifties that shows a bunch of schoolkids under their desks to protect themselves in the event of a nuclear attack. Which, of course, wouldn´t have mattered a hill of beans if the Soviets had launched a nuclear attack.

As the one year anniversary of the deadly attack on an American consulate in Benghazi approaches, journalists have begun to take another look into the scandal surrounding the government’s response to that terrorist event. Last week, CNN aired two striking reports revealing that the Central Intelligence Agency had a large number of agents on the ground on the night of the attack and that a suspect in the attack has never been interviewed by investigators. Following these revelatory reports, which some in President Barack Obama’s administration believe represent a political threat,

A last-minute appeal that could have stopped Billy Slagle’s execution — without opposition from state attorneys — was poised to be filed this morning with the Ohio Supreme Court. But the convicted Cleveland killer’s attorneys were unable to reach him over the weekend on Death Row at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution. Yesterday morning, they got the call: Slagle hanged himself in his cell about 5 a.m. and was declared dead about an hour later. Vicki Werneke and Joseph Wilhelm, Slagle’s federal public defenders, are left to wonder “what if?” “I don’t know what more we could have done,” Werneke said.

Here is how New Hampshire’s so-called “health insurance exchange” under Obamacare will work when it comes online Jan. 1. Granite Staters who need health insurance and have not found it through an employer or the actual marketplace will come to this government-created “market,” where a grand total of one insurer will offer plans. Every one of the plans offered by the single participating insurance company will have to provide government-mandated minimum coverage that starts at $498.79 a month. This is “choice” under Obamacare.

Speaking with nationally syndicated radio show The Weekend on Saturday, rock musician and conservative provocateur Ted Nugent railed against his critics at the New Haven Register who called for a boycott of his upcoming Connecticut concert due to his controversial comments about the late Trayvon Martin. While applauding the acquittal of George Zimmerman of second-degree murder charges, Nugent has referred to the deceased 17-year-old Martin as a “dope-smoking, racist gangsta wannabe.” The comments have generated outrage over what the Register saw as language on par with the rhetoric employed by the Klu Klux Klan.

The economy is still puttering along, which is to say it is still not strong enough to help a lot of average Americans. (Snip) The bottom line approach is not easily embraced by many Americans. There are those of us who continue to labor under the belief that work is a means of self-expression and that a job should contribute to the wholesome growth and sustainability of family and community. I believe the majority of Americans still hold to this view, but what would happen if our society as a whole resorted to the corporate model of life, that is, pursuing it through the bottom line?
