Tonight, millions of middle class Americans will go to sleep worried - worried about a job, worried about health care, worried about whether they can ever get ahead. While the bills stack up, many middle class families wonder whether there’s ever going to be enough money left over at the end of the month to save for retirement or college tuition. All the while, an out-of-touch government in Washington continues to abuse its power and put special interests first while hard working Americans are left to pay the bill.
According to all reports, Juror B29, the sole nonwhite juror on the George Zimmerman trial, said the neighborhood watch volunteer got away with murder. But Slate´s William Saletan says not so fast, and accused the network on Friday of deceptive editing and manipulation to get the answers they wanted. According to Saletan, the juror -- identified only by her first name, Maddy -- has "been framed as the woman who was bullied out of voting to convict Zimmerman." But, he said, that´s simply not true. Saletan said she stands by the not guilty verdict. "She yielded to
Independence Day is my buddy Donald´s favorite movie; he´s watched it at least ten times. Humongous alien spacecraft are defeating America´s air force, blowing our jets out of the sky. Our missiles have no effect on the them because they are protected by a force-field. (snip) Folks, life in America as we know it is under attack by a humongous, powerful, seemingly invincible evil aggressor: the Obama administration.
On Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) blistered the mainstream media for favoring Republicans who are docile and trained to parrot policy positions Democrats prefer. “There are a lot of Democrats and folks in the media who like their Republicans timid and house-trained to just sit quietly in the corner, to accept losing, and to stand for nothing," Cruz said on Sean Hannity´s radio show. Cruz said Americans are fed up with such Republicans who are no different from Democrats and offer no alternative. Hannity said Cruz was not one of those "house-trained" Republicans,
"Global jihad is at our doorstep," said the head of Israel´s Military Intelligence this week. Unlike our media and politicians, Major-General Aviv Kochavi is paid to see reality without fear or favor, and to tell it like it is. American conservatives have thought so at least since the Twin Towers bombing in 2001, and some, like Andy McCarthy, have known it since the Blind Sheikh tried to truck-bomb the World Trade Center in 1993.
A missing Los Angeles teenager was sexually assaulted, kept in a metal box and forced to process marijuana for her two captors, according to a federal criminal complaint filed this week. Prosecutors said the girl was held by Ryan Balletto, 30, and Patrick Pearmain, 24, who are charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, using a minor in a drug operation and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. According to prosecutors, the case was blown open when a Los Angeles police detective called Lake County sheriff’s officials asking about a connection between Balletto and the girl. FORT MEADE, MD --U.S. Army Pfc. Bradley Manning is a whistleblower who wanted to inform the American public about the troubling things he saw in the war zone, and the soldier is willing to pay the price for giving secrets to WikiLeaks, his defense attorney said Friday. During closing arguments, attorney David Coombs disputed what prosecutors said a day earlier, that Manning was a traitor whose only mission as an intelligence analyst was to give classified information to the anti-secrecy website and bask in the attention."He's not seeking attention. He saying he's willing to accept the price" for what he has done, Coombs said. Source corrected and text added by Staff
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. Meghan McCain is getting her own show on a new TV network targeting the generation of Americans known as millennials. "Raising McCain" will debut on Pivot, a general entertainment network that launches Aug. 1. It´s described as a documentary-talk series for viewers ages 15 to 34. McCain will star and serve as executive producer. The 28-year-old author and blogger told the Television Critics Association on Friday that the show lets her "be crazy, be myself and talk about issues." "I came to Pivot because I think there has to be some sort of middle
Hi everybody. On Wednesday, I spoke about what we need to do as a country to build a better bargain for the middle class — to make sure everyone who works hard has a chance to get ahead in the 21st century economy. You see, over the past four and a half years, America has fought its way back from the worst recession of our lifetimes. We saved the auto industry, took on a broken health care system and invested in new American technologies to reverse our addiction to foreign oil.
Fayetteville, Pa. Raymond Cromartie grew up an Army brat. He looked up to his father, James, who retired in 2003 as a lieutenant colonel in the Medical Service Corps. "There´s been so many people in the past—men and women that have died in the service of our country—that I don´t think I should be sitting on my butt while they sacrifice their lives," the 23-year-old Mr. Cromartie tells me in an interview at his parents´ home some 20 miles west of Gettysburg. Trent—he goes by his middle name—received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy
As a black conservative tea party activist, I am extremely excited about Bill O´Reilly´s recent series of commentaries and TV shows addressing the hypocrisy and exploitation by the American race industry that has and continues to devastate the black community. O´Reilly boldly called out all of the usual suspects: Sharpton, Jackson, the Congressional Black Caucus and Obama. Eric Holder and others on the left have been whining and arrogantly scolding us saying that we need an honest discussion about race in America.
Comedian Jim Carrey angered many on the right with his venomous tweets against the Second Amendment as well as those who embrace it. He (much) later apologized, but hard feelings likely remain. The Ace Ventura star´s latest political tweet won´t win him any conservative fans back. Carrey commented on vandals splashing green paint on the Lincoln Memorial with a predictably left of center viewpoint: Green paint on Lincoln memorial. Ppl are getting tired of corporate tyranny disguised as democracy. ;^\ http://say.ly/iqj6mai
Hamilton Jordan, Jimmy Carter’s young, brash chief of staff, was famous during the administration for negotiating tough deals, carousing at night and shunning the stuffy customs of official Washington. He spent the final years of his life on a quieter pursuit: writing a memoir of nearly 300 pages that was not quite finished at the time of his death in 2008. Now his daughter, Kathleen, a 24-year-old television producer, is rushing to polish the manuscript in the hope of getting it published
President Obama suggested that states reconsider "stand your ground" laws, and contended that they invite people to use deadly force when it is not justified. The following statement proves Mr. Obama´s well-known dishonesty, as demonstrated below. I refer specifically to his implication that "stand your ground" means you can shoot somebody who makes you "feel threatened." And for those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these "stand your ground" laws, I just ask people to consider if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed,
More than 100 people have been killed at a protest by supporters of ousted Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi in the capital, Cairo, doctors say. They said more than 1,000 were also hurt. The state health ministry says 38 people had died--180 injured. The army ousted Mr Morsi on 3 July. He has been formally accused of murder relating to a 2011 jail outbreak and of links to militant group Hamas. [Snip] Many thousands occupied Cairo´s Tahrir Square in support of the army, after its chief, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, had urged people to demonstrate to provide a mandate for its
The three-year-old girl at the centre of a South Carolina adoption dispute because of her Native American history is just two percent Cherokee, it has been revealed. Her biological mother Christy Maldonado is Hispanic and was unmarried when she got pregnant and gave birth to Veronica--since then she has worked closely with a non-Indian couple hopeful of adopting her daughter. But when Veronica´s biological father, Dusten Brown, found out he secured custody based on his Cherokee Nation ancestry and the couple who looked after the girl from birth until 19 months ago were forced to hand her over
Here’s a good way to save some money as tax-free holiday time roles around. Fill up your gas tank and follow the map. Slate put together a ‘Tax-Free Road Map’ that shows sixteen states to shop tax-free for particular items in August. [Snip] In North Carolina, for instance, shoppers will be able to purchase a new computer worth $3,500 without paying any tax between August 2 and August 4. Over the same three-day period, shoppers in South Carolina will be able to save on clothing, school supplies and computers with no price limit.
Until recently, the dazzling visual effect caused by helicopter blades hitting sand and dust--and creating mesmerizing halos described as ´one of the most beautiful things you´ll ever see in a war zone--had no specific name; observers would simply marvel at the breathtaking sight without an understanding of what was causing it--or what to call it. Now, however--to honor the memories of two soldiers killed in the war in Afghanistan--the physics that create these types of breathtaking halos has a name: The Kopp-Etchells Effect. The effect is named for U.S. Army Ranger Benjamin Kopp and British soldier Joseph Etchells
A year ago former Republican congressman Bob Inglis famously predicted the facts on global warming will “overwhelm” GOP resistance to climate change action, and alter the party’s stance. In response, he proposed a carbon tax. Thanks to this, we provide you with a calculator that may overwhelm the entire notion. It’s our handy-dandy temperature savings calculator. Mr. Inglis insists that his carbon tax will be “revenue neutral,” meaning, in toto, it will do nothing to the taxpayers’ bottom line. Our calculator will show you that his tax also does nothing about global warming.
The AFL-CIO and its friends are mourning Detroit as a victim of capitalism, claiming the government has a moral obligation to rescue the bankrupt city. This is a nice political fable, but the hard truth is that Motown is a victim of its own political vices and a bailout would merely forestall the necessary rehab. One myth is that Detroit is a victim of the U.S. auto industry. But the city´s breakdown preceded the decline of GM, Ford and Chrysler and has continued despite their resurgence. American car makers have been doing better for three years,
All veteran journalists know that the only thing to do with fish in a barrel is to shoot them, as the cliché demands. Thus, all members of the media, left, right, and center, have spent this week eagerly popping away at Anthony Weiner and his hapless wife Huma Abedin.(Snip)The point about Clinton is telling because it reminds us that allowing people who abuse and lie in the manner that Bill and Hillary did—and which Anthony and Huma would like to emulate—has consequences. The willingness of Democrats and liberal soapboxes like the Times to embrace Clinton
Over two decades of covering politicians’ scandals, I’ve often been asked a version of this question: What makes them do such stupid things? Based on my extensive experience, I respond with a version of this answer: I don’t know. But I do have theories. And that brings me to this week’s McWeiner controversy. Most news accounts treated these as two separate scandals: Anthony Weiner, the disgraced Democratic congressman and would-be mayor of New York, had been exposed again as a digital flasher, sending “selfie” pictures of his privates to women. Bob McDonnell, the Republican governor of Virginia,
There are those who believe the bombs and blood were staged, the amputees and others injured were actors in some kind of Hollywood production designed to justify martial law. Others acknowledge the carnage but say it was perpetrated by a secret squad of special operations soldiers. And there are those who insist that inconsistencies in early reports, erroneous statements by public officials, and unreleased evidence from prosecutors — among other things — reflect anything from a government coverup to an effort to frame the suspects. Three months after two bombs detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon,
Anthony Weiner’s chef brother turned up the heat on the mayoral wannabe’s secret online paramour just weeks before the sexting pol announced his mayoral bid, according to a longtime confidante of the scorned beauty. Jason Weiner, who owns Manhattan bistro Almond, reached out to Anthony’s sexting partner, Sydney Leathers, on April 12 — just two days after Weiner’s strategic comeback interview ran in The New York Times Magazine — and grilled her on intentions, Lou Colagiovanni, a Vegas-based political activist, told The Post. “He was trying to see if she was going to be a problem,” Colagiovanni said.
