When a fire alarm went off Saturday at Westchase Marriott, disrupting a "master class" being held by Houston WorldFest, the organization´s founder and chief executive officer, Hunter Todd, decided to do some police work of his own. After the 200 or so attendees filed back into the meeting room when the hotel gave an all clear, Todd approached a woman sitting in the front of the room who was wearing a full burqa and asked to search her backpack. The event was part of WorldFest Houston´s 46th Annual International Film Festival.

On Friday, Matt Sheffield and Bob Owens and other conservative bloggers spread the news that Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev sent pro-Obama tweets out on Election Night, retweeting one that said "Barack you my dawg" and hailing how “america is impervious to the f--kery #justforthisoneday.” Speaking of impervious, Politico reporter Josh Gerstein reported on Monday that "The Boston Marathon bombing suspects’ geopolitical leanings are still largely a mystery, and so is their American political outlook, after a review of records in this city where they lived for the last several years."

Obama´s Budget Would Lead to the

The Tax Policy Center has a new estimate of tax rates under President Obama´s budget in the next ten years. What won´t surprise you is that taxes are going up -- way, way up -- on the richest percentile. What might surprise you is that taxes are also going up on just about everybody else, too, despite the president´s campaign promise to not raise taxes on families making less than $200,000. Politico and other publications are making a lot of hay about these higher middle-class taxes, which mostly come from cigarette taxes and a new inflation measure called chained-CPI.

More than a dozen Maryland state correctional officers were accused Tuesday of helping a powerful prison gang run a drug-trafficking and money-laundering operation from behind bars. Thirteen female prison guards were charged by the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office in an indictment unsealed Tuesday in federal court. They allegedly smuggled into the prison cell phones, prescription pills and other contraband uncovered during a year-long corruption investigation of state detention facilities. “The inmates literally took over ‘the asylum,’ and the detention centers became safe havens for BGF,”

UN´s Falk ties Boston bombs

UN Human Rights Council’s Palestine monitor Richard Falk has drawn connections between the recent Boston Marathon bombing and US President Barack Obama´s compliance with the State of Israel. In a journal entry in the Foreign Policy Journal entitled "A Commentary on the Marathon Murders," Falk, a self-proclaimed advocate for 9/11 conspiracy theories, asks when America will awaken from its "geopolitical fantasy," referring to the aftermath of the attack as a "darkly glamorized" scene, which he implied was largely due to Obama´s recent trip to Israel. "As long as Tel Aviv has the compliant ear of the American political establishment,

The first rule in TV newscasts – don’t curse when you’re in front of the camera. You never know when your microphone might be open. You never know when you might become the next YouTube sensation, the way A.J. Clemente did Sunday. Clemente was leading off his first newscast as the weekend anchor at KFYR, an NBC station in Bismarck, North Dakota, when he let loose. “F-----g s--t,” he said into his microphone, fifteen seconds into his first anchoring gig. Fifteen seconds! The nerves got to him. After Clemente opened his mouth, co-anchor Van Tieu continued with the newscast

The judge in the trial of Kermit Gosnell threw out three of the eight murder charges against the abortionist today, agreeing with the defense that there was not sufficient evidence that three of the babies had been born alive. Defense Attorney Jack McMahon argued that “If we are going in this room to say a baby is born alive because it moves one time without any other movement, that is ludicrous.” According to CNS News: Kareema Cross, who worked at the clinic, testified to the grand jury that the baby was moving and breathing for 20 minutes before

A House Republican investigation into the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that resulted in the death of the American ambassador has produced an interim progress report that has been distributed to members of the House majority. The report was culled from information uncovered by the following committees: Armed Services; Judiciary; Intelligence; Foreign Affairs; and Oversight and Government Reform. It claims that then-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton approved reductions in security which, if true, runs contrary to her testimony on Capitol Hill.

Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev displayed a disturbing pattern of verbal abuse and violence toward women that included fits of rage against his wife and an arrest in 2009 for slapping a previous girlfriend, according to police records and accounts from those who knew him. Close friends of his wife Katherine Russell, 24, claimed today that Tsarnaev, 26, was combative, angry and controlling. His wife hasn´t spoken publicly about her husband since he was killed in a shootout with police early Friday morning. In America, he had been a cocky and charismatic heavyweight boxer who wore fancy pointy leather shoes and slick white shirts down to the gym. In Dagestan, the volatile southern Russian region where he lived for a time as a teen and returned to spend the first half of 2012, he became a quiet young man who spent his days online studying Islam, nursing a growing anger against heretics. Exactly what turned Tamerlan Tsarnaev into the suspect accused of three murders and mass wounding in the Boston Marathon bombings may never be known.

Every religion needs a creed. A set of beliefs that its followers can adhere to. A flag they can rally around in good times and bad. An early example is the Nicene Creed, drafted in the fourth century to explain exactly what Christians believed. (Snip) So to help environmentalist believers focus, it’s time for them to have their own Nicene Creed. We believe in one Planet, Mother of us all: the Earth, fragile and endangered by pollution, both seen and unseen. On the surface, it looks like another failure to connect the dots. Russia’s intelligence service, the FSB, warned the FBI in 2011 about a young Chechen named Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who they believed had become radicalized and was prepared to join an underground organization in Russia. The FBI interviewed the man, searched its databases and found nothing, and closed the case the same year. Two years later, Tamerlan and his younger brother, Dzhokhar, bombed the Boston Marathon. Already two members of Congress have asked the Obama administration for answers about the FBI’s empty investigation. On Saturday, Rep. Michael McCaul (R–Texas),

It took less than 4 1/2 years of the Obama presidency for President George W. Bush to mount his comeback. While doing absolutely nothing on his own behalf (he’s been the most silent ex-president in my lifetime), his approval is up to 47 percent according to The Post/ABC poll. That’s up 14 points from his final poll in office. For comparison’s sake President Obama’s RCP average is a tad over 49 percent. Why the shift? Aside from the “memories fade” point, many of his supposed failures are mild compared to the current president (e.g. spending, debt). Unlike Obama’s tenure,

Well that didn’t last long. In fact, it barely happened at all. After a month of ignoring the trial of Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortionist accused of murdering one woman and seven infants, it looked like the media had been shamed into covering the story. Barely. Even after the most gruesome detail in a trial full of them came out – a baby who survived an abortion “swimming” in a toilet and “trying to get out” – the silence resumed. In fact, the only major news outlet that bothered to report on that testimony was The Chicago Tribune.

Proselytizers of atheism seem to have concluded that if they’re big enough jerks, they will seduce the faithful into abandoning God. It’s sort of like asking Don Rickles to run your customer-service desk. Christopher Hitchens was a friend, but when he talked about religion, he could be — to use a technical term — a Grade-A Schmuck. Likewise, Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and the other champions of a soulless, antiseptic world have all the charm of a toothache when they lecture people to kick the habit of the opiate of the masses.
