Middle East: Waiting until his fifth year in office to visit our staunch ally, President Obama showed the real purpose of his trip: to bully the Israelis in person. It takes gall to lecture Israelis that "you have the opportunity to be the generation that permanently secures the Zionist dream." "Trust me," is Barack Obama´s message on what the White House calls a "listening tour." But what loyal citizen of the Jewish state would place faith in him? This is the president who dashed off to Cairo less than six months into his presidency, his meaningless

Georgia police are going door-to-door in search of two young suspects who are accused of shooting and killing a 1-year-old boy as his mother pushed him in a stroller. Sherry West, the mother of the child, told police she was walking her 13-month-old son, Antonio, in a stroller Thursday morning through their Brunswick, Ga., neighborhood when two African-American boys approached her and demanded money. When she told them she didn´t have any money, West said one of the boys pulled out a handgun. "He said, ´I´m going to kill you if you don´t give me money,´ and I said,

President Barack Obama repeated his call for regime change in Syria, but stressed he does not want to see Syrian President Bashar Assad replaced by another despot. “What I am confident about is ultimately what the people of Syria are looking for is not replacing oppression with a new form of oppression,” Obama said Friday during a joint press conference with Jordan King Abdullah II in Amman, Jordan. “What they’re looking for is replacing oppression with freedom and opportunity and democracy and the capacity to live together and build together,

MSNBC host Touré criticized the speed with which the Republican Party’s opinion leaders have embraced Dr. Ben Carson on Friday, saying that the pediatric neurosurgeon is the equivalent of the GOP’s “black friend.” Touré said that Republicans are displaying a form of cynicism in their acceptance of Carson as a means of assuaging their guilt over their pas “abusive” relationship with minorities. “Just so we’re clear, I’m not really into being the ‘black friend,’” Touré began. “If I get that sense that you like me just because

Nearly a year before signing the nation´s most stringent gun control measure into law, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo launched a hotline that allows state residents to report illegal gun owners in exchange for a $500 reward. New Yorkers can call the "Gun Tip Line" if they believe someone they know has an illegal gun. “This initiative seeks to turn neighbor against neighbor and use their own tax dollars to pay for the $500 reward,” Republican Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin told the station.

They are moms and dads, authors and activists, a former police officer and a former single mom. They´re black and white and Hispanic. One´s a Roman Catholic archbishop, another an evangelical minister. Many have large families — including gay members. They are among the leading opponents of gay marriage, or as they prefer to be called, defenders of traditional marriage. And they´re trying to stop an increasingly popular movement as it approaches two dates with history next week at the Supreme Court. At times, it can seem a lonely battle.

SINGAPORE: Singapore former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said a country that does not grow its population risks dissolving "into nothingness". RUSH: Susan in Oxnard, California, great to have you on the EIB Network. Hello. CALLER: Hi. Super Mega dittos, Rush. RUSH: I appreciate that, thank you. CALLER: Yesterday you said the left wants to eliminate judging people on accomplishments in order to judge them on surface things, but I say that wasn´t quite correct. I say what they´re doing is building their monetary system where merit and effort don´t matter but being a good person and caring are what matters and that´s how people earn stuff. They´re swapping those and changing the perception and the expectations of the youngsters.

I wanted to let you know that Obamacare hit our school system this week. I´m a Title I teaching assistant in the public school system here and it affects, I don´t know, maybe eight elementary schools, three middle schools, and the high school. What they have done is, first of all, the IRS is apparently overseeing Obamacare in Indiana. I guess everywhere maybe.

After some years, marked by tensions between them, the baron decided to pay an unexpected visit to the village. The people were very excited and turned out to give him a warm welcome. The mayor and the baron spoke of the eternal friendship between the castle and the village. Everyone cheered, especially when the baron promised his help in defending the village from dangers prowling around its borders. The baron urged the village to make peace with those forces, but said he understood if it couldn’t do so and confirmed his support for the village’s right of self-defense.

"Have you ever had a group of men sitting right behind you making joke [sic] that caused you to feel uncomfortable?" wrote blogress Adria Richards Monday. "Well, that just happened this week but instead of shrinking down in my seat, I did something about it an [sic] here´s my story . . ." A richly entertaining story it is. It seems that Richards, a "developer evangelist" for a company called SendGrid, was at a conference called PyCon, which describes itself as "the largest annual gathering for the community using and developing the open-source Python programming language."

North Dakota lawmakers moved Friday to outlaw abortion in the state by passing a resolution defining life as starting at conception. The measure, which has to be approved by voters, is one of a series of anti-abortion resolutions the Republican-controlled Legislature has passed this year despite critics´ insistence that they are unconstitutional and violate the U.S. Supreme Court´s Roe v. Wade ruling legalizing abortion until a fetus considered viable, which is usually at 22 to 24 weeks. (snip) The so-called personhood measure bestows human rights on fertilized human eggs. I’m still waiting for the Hitler quote. Or is there a minimum number of people that a dictator has to murder before he gets placement on a part of the Department of Education website devoted to kids. This isn’t a generic quote about education being a good thing. It’s actually a quote about the need for Communist indoctrination among Communist Party members. The full quote that the Department of Education cut down comes at the end of an essay on “The Role of the Chinese Communist Party in the National War” “Whoever refuses to study these problems seriously and carefully is no

If days in court were given formal titles like book chapters, Thursday´s trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell would have been headed "Karnamaya Mongar." A full day of testimony by anesthesiologist Andrew Herlich, an expert witness, revolved around Mongar, who was not present in court Thursday, the trial´s fourth day. She was not present because she died in 2009 within 24 hours of an abortion in Gosnell´s "house of horrors," a/k/a Women´s Medical Center in West Philadelphia. That the woman, who was 41, is dead is indisputable, allegedly Gosnell´s sole adult victim. Amid the stomach-turning accusations

Who’s going to bail out Cyprus: Brussels or Moscow? That’s the multibillion-dollar question. In mid-March, the European Union and the International Monetary Fund proposed a rescue package for the tiny island—to the tune of roughly $20.5 billion. But this bailout proposal was different: $13 billion in aid being offered was conditional upon Cyprus raising the remaining $7.5 billion through a hefty one-time tax on its bank depositors. Not surprisingly, the Cypriots, among others, were not pleased with this idea. And on March 19, to Brussels’s surprise, the Cypriot Parliament overwhelmingly rejected the bailout package.

Ten years ago, along with three-quarters of the American people, including the men just appointed as President Obama´s secretaries of state and defense, I supported the invasion of Iraq. A decade on, unlike most of the American people, including John Kerry and Chuck Hagel, I´ll stand by that original judgment. None of us can say what would have happened had Saddam Hussein remained in power. He might now be engaged in a nuclear arms race with Iran. One or other of his even more psychotic sons, the late Uday or Qusay, could be in power.

CARACAS, Venezuela — A Jesuit priest whose kidnapping by the Argentine military raised questions about the actions of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, now Pope Francis, during that country’s so-called Dirty War said in a statement this week that Father Bergoglio did not initiate the detention by reporting him and another priest to the authorities. “These are the facts: Orlando Yorio and I were not reported by Father Bergoglio,” Father Franz Jalics said in the statement posted on a German Jesuit Web site, mentioning the other priest who was kidnapped with him in 1976.

Buenos Aires, Argentina - Pope Francis surprised the owner of a kiosk in Buenos Aires with a telephone call to send his greetings and explain that he will no longer need a morning paper delivered each day. Around 1:30 p.m. local time on March 18, Daniel Del Regno, the kiosk owner’s son, answered the phone and heard a voice say, “Hi Daniel, it’s Cardinal Jorge.” He thought that maybe a friend who knew that the former Archbishop of Buenos Aires bought the newspaper from them every day was pulling a prank on him.

Last month United States Postal Service Postmaster Patrick Donahoe warned that the Postal Service was on the brink of default. He proposed cutting Saturday delivery service as a way to save $2 billion annually. But in a setback to the agency´s cost-saving efforts, Congress has passed legislation requiring a six-day postal service delivery schedule. Now the Government Accountability Office has released a report finding that USPS is bound to Congress´ spending agreement. The beleaguered mail carrier lost roughly $16 billion in 2012. The Postal Service is an independent agency, which means it is not funded by tax dollars.

A late education is better than no education at all, even for a president of the United States. The man who is a mighty legend in his own mind is even showing a little humility. Barack Obama, who usually finds someone else — usually George W. — to blame for every little thing that goes awry, finally admitted this week in Israel that even a synthetic messiah can make mistakes. “I hope I’m a better president now than when I first came into office,” he told reporters at one stop early in his trip.

I found myself in a group conversation that included one of the more instantly recognizable media figures -- someone who personifies the phrase "mainstream media." Since this isn´t something that happens every day, why not make the best of it? Why not ask this VIMP (Very Important Media Person) a question or two on the topics that I frequently criticize the press for not covering? The problem was how to do so without unduly alarming the poor thing. My favorite kinds of questions might be distressing to VIMPs who never ask them, or even seem to think of them.

AMMAN, Jordan — President Barack Obama says his administration is working with Congress to provide Jordan with an additional $200 million in aid this year. Jordan’s economic troubles have been made worse by the influx of more than 450,000 refugees fleeing the civil war across the border in neighboring Syria. The Syrians are crowding refugee camps in Jordan and overwhelming aid agencies run by the important U.S. ally in the Middle East. The United States already is the largest single donor of humanitarian aid for the Syrian people. Obama said Friday

He will be leaving the FCC after a mixed tenure that has disappointed some of the consumer groups that were his earliest supporters, but that also sketched a plan to bring Americans more access to broadband Internet for years ahead.
