Men who have children after they turn 50 not only increase their children’s risk for developing autism, but may increase their grandchildren’s risk for developing it, too, researchers at Sweden’s Karolinska Institutet found. Compared with men who father children in their 20s, older men who had daughters were 1.79 times more likely to have autistic grandchildren, and older men who had sons were 1.67 times more likely to have them, according to the study published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association, or JAMA.

James Holmes, the gunman behind the Dark Knight massacre in Colorado last July, has reportedly turned Muslim and prays five times a day. The killer showed off a lengthy, thick beard during a court appearance earlier this month, and a prison source has claimed it is a symbol of his new-found faith. The source said Holmes has turned to Islam as a way of justifying his horrific murder spree in an Aurora, Colorado cinema on July 20 which left 12 people dead and 58 people wounded. ´He has brainwashed himself into believing he was on his

KEY LARGO, Fla.- An Air Force target drone drifted about 800 miles from the Florida Panhandle to Key Largo, officials say. The 20-foot unmanned aircraft was pulled from the water by Steve Powers of Sea Tow-Key Largo after it was spotted Sunday, Keysnet.com reported. The 82nd Aerial Targets Squadron, based at Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, dispatched a truck to pick it up. "I´ve never seen one like it," Powers said. "This is a first for me." (Snip) The drone, valued at $570,000, will be fixed up so it can fly again.

LOS ANGELES- Rusted pieces of two Apollo-era rocket engines that helped boost astronauts to the moon have been fished out of the murky depths of the Atlantic, Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos and NASA said Wednesday. A privately funded expedition led by Bezos raised the main engine parts during three weeks at sea and was headed back to Cape Canaveral, Fla., the launch pad for the manned lunar missions. "We´ve seen an underwater wonderland - an incredible sculpture garden of twisted F-1 engines that tells the story of a fiery and violent end," Bezos wrote in an online posting.

FORT HOOD, Texas — An Army psychiatrist will not be allowed to plead guilty to any charges in the deadly 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage, a judge ruled Wednesday. Maj. Nidal Hasan´s attorneys previously said he was ready to plead guilty to the 13 counts of premeditated murder he faces in the worst mass shooting on a U.S. military installation, but Army rules prohibit a judge from accepting a guilty plea to charges that carry the death penalty. Defense attorneys then asked that Hasan be allowed to plead guilty to 13 counts of unpremeditated murder

A panel of White House advisers warned President Obama in a secret report that U.S. spy agencies were paying inadequate attention to China, the Middle East and other national security flash points because they had become too focused on military operations and drone strikes, U.S. officials said. Led by influential figures including new Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and former senator David L. Boren (D-Okla.), the panel concluded in a report last year that the roles of the CIA, the National Security Agency and other spy services had been distorted by more than a decade of conflict.

The UK has moved closer to becoming the first country to allow the creation of babies from three people. (Snip)If the techniques were approved it could help a handful of families each year. Around one in 6,500 children develop serious "mitochondrial disorders" which are debilitating and fatal. Research suggests that using mitochondria from a donor egg can prevent the diseases. However, it would result in babies having DNA from two parents and a tiny amount from a third donor.

On Wednesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer said President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have warmer relations now that the president is less naïve. “I think one of the reasons that there is new warmth or an effort to project is [that] Obama has abandoned the naive view he had when he came to office that he could remake the Middle East and restart negotiations, and that there was a realistic chance of actually having an agreement,” Krauthammer said. “And even though there remains a difference over what

For more than a year, New York state has maintained a tip line allowing people to report illegal gun owners and collect a $500 reward. CBS-6 news reported the existence of the tip line on Wednesday. It was previously a “well-kept secret” that received little promotion from state officials or fanfare in the media, according to the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association. A February 2012 press release from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s office first publicly announced the tip line, saying it was designed to “encourage citizens to report illegal firearm possession.”

U.S. Rights: As the world body meets this week to hammer out an agreement to restrict international arms trade, our Secretary of State commits us to pushing a treaty that may also restrict our Second Amendment rights. Last Friday, the day of the week when unpopular or controversial announcements are traditionally made, Secretary of State John Kerry announced U.S. support for the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), a final version of which is being hammered out in New York beginning this week. Certainly the ATT is controversial.

President Obama knows for a fact what many in the Republican Party — especially its "leadership" — fail to understand or acknowledge: That being, for his purposes, the GOP is not only irrelevant, but impotent as it flails about in search of convictions, some backbone, national support and an honest message. The just released self-described "autopsy" report by the Republican National Committee merely confirms that truth. Beyond the president, this new reality has dawned on all but the most partisan Republicans or consultants to the RNC. It has become crystal clear that a growing number of liberals in positions of

One other pillar of the liberal Democrats´ systematic takeover genuinely was a conscious conspiracy — no conspiracy theory — and has even received belated recognition recently. If you are old enough, you can remember Democrats such as Ted Kennedy, in their rare candid moments, rhapsodizing that someday, when they could get 50% of the U.S. population plus one receiving a government check of some kind, they would never again lose a national election! The notorious but true 47% cited by Mitt Romney apparently is close enough. Then, an especially vile tributary of this liberal

While President Obama’s administration has suggested that the Secret Service is to blame for the closure of White House tours, the onus now falls on the Democrat-controlled Senate. On Wednesday, Democrats rejected a Republican attempt to reopen the White House tours in a straight party-line vote. 54 Democrats voted against reopening the tours. None have voted to defund President Obama’s golf trips. The amendment, sponsored by Senator Tom Coburn, required 60 votes to pass.

It claims one of the original reality shows on television profits off of, and dehumanizes, blacks. Iran’s nuclear ambitions may loom large, but lurking in the shadow of President Obama’s highly anticipated visit to Israel this week is a protracted and secretive war already being waged between Jerusalem and Tehran. Analysts and former officials say the “shadow war,” featuring suicide bombings and clandestine attacks from Eastern Europe to Asia and the Middle East, is a potential source of friction between individuals at the CIA and Israel’s lead intelligence agency, the Mossad. The shadow war has been defined over the past five years by a t*t-for-tat exchange of terrorist-style attacks. Israel’s president has blamed Iran for car

Minnesota state legislators considering a same-sex marriage bill for the state did not have an answer to an 11-year-old girl’s question on which parent is not needed. “Since every child needs a mom and a dad to be born, I don’t think we can change that children need a mom and a dad. I believe God made it that way,” Grace Evans, 11, said before the Minnesota House Committee on Civil Law last week. “I know some disagree, but I want to ask you this question: Which parent do I not need – my mom or my dad?”

"I don´t have the words to describe the cowardice of Congress or the depravity of the gun lobby, which conspired to kill the assault-weapons ban," writes Ron Fournier of National Journal. We rate that statement PANTS ON FIRE, for Fournier turns out to be at anything but a loss for words. "I can´t explain the apparent impotence of President Obama who vowed to ´use whatever power this office holds´ to convert the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School into commonsense common good," Fournier continues. If the House approves the bill before it leaves for a two-week holiday recess on Friday, funding will be assured a full week before the March 27 expiration (Snip) And yet the 73 to 26 final Senate vote
