Roland Martin tweeted that as of April 6, he’s out at CNN. Asked why by one of his followers, Martin responded “new boss wants his own peeps.” That new boss is Jeff Zucker, who has axed two prominent people of color since taking the helm at CNN. Soledad O’Brien was released amid claims that CNN felt her audience was “too ethnic.” This is Jeff Zucker. Of the three major on-air figures Zucker has fired, just one — Jack Cafferty — was white.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has decided to split legislation banning assault weapons from an overall package of expanded gun control measures set for the floor next week. It has been an open secret in Washington that most gun control measures, and the assault weapons ban in particular, faced long odds passing Congress. Reid´s move, however, cleverly structures the votes in a way to give maximum benefit to the many incumbent Democrats running for reelection in red states next year. Most accounts suggest that Reid jettisoned the assault weapons ban

In a speech before the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Senator Rand Paul detailed his position on immigration, including an implicit pathway to citizenship, contingent on border security, for illegal immigrants already in the country. “I think the conversation needs to start by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants,” said Mr. Paul, a Republican from Kentucky. “If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you.” Though Mr. Paul never used the word “citizenship” in his nearly 18-minute speech,

Washington - Senator Dianne Feinstein, the California Democrat who 35 years ago discovered the bullet-riddled body of the gay activist Harvey Milk, reacted with anger on Tuesday that gun control legislation the Senate is to consider next month will not include the reinstatement of an assault weapons ban, a measure she had fought desperately to keep. (Snip) “To have these mass killings is such a blight on everything that America stands for.” At a Senate hearing last week, Ms. Feinstein said that she still could not get out of her mind looking for the pulse of Mr. Milk,

Cost Of Green: The same day the government blamed high fuel prices for February´s inflation spike, President Obama unveiled his latest idea: Waste billions more taxpayer dollars on the same failed "green" energy programs. Pump prices have climbed 40 cents a gallon since the start of the year, topping $3.60 a gallon. Obama complains that every time gasoline prices spike, "politicians dust off their three-point plans for $2 gas, but nothing happens and then we go through the same cycle again." But the truth is that Obama´s the one who keeps dusting off the same tired old proposals — the very

The Chicago Police Department is one of many around the nation that now accepts that law enforcement officers, like America’s combat soldiers, suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. CBS 2’s Mike Parker profiles a family that believes one of their own — a third generation cop — was afflicted with PTSD when he took his own life last month. [Snip] Toward the end, he told his family he was “overwhelmed” by what he was experiencing on the job: the bodies, the violence and especially crime’s effect on children. He told his family those kids had no way out and no hope.

Here´s one reason why Democrats are in such a tizzy over the sequester spending cuts and ever-tighter budgets: It´s affecting their personal staffs and budgets. Two senior Democrats complained at a House Appropriations Committee hearing Tuesday that the combination of cuts over the past two years has robbed them of nearly 11 percent of their personal budgets, which average $1.3 million. Now House officials are looking at an additional 8.2 percent cut, or about $100,000. Total cut over three years: nearly 20 percent. "If it´s a $100,000 reduction in your [allowance] you

Many Americans are wondering how their country, a supposed "center-right" nation, reached the point of electing and reelecting the most radical leftist administration in its history. Indeed, a long chain of events giving rise to a confluence of societal changes had to occur for such a fundamental reordering to take place. What exactly were they? How did this happen? Here´s how: First, when the liberal Democrat establishment, manifested by the teachers unions, decisively gained control of public education in the U.S. over four decades ago, the perpetrators may or may not have been conscious of setting the

Politics: Listening to enemies´ advice is seldom wise, but that seems to be what´s behind a new self-dissection by the Republican Party establishment. Autopsies make for a strange cure. We´re not in the business of providing consultation to political organizations, but to the extent the GOP is the vehicle for ideas that can save this country from expanding government, some observations are in order. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus´ new "Growth and Opportunity Project" describes itself as "a top-to-bottom tuneup" for the party. But it smacks more of juggler

A New Jersey family claims a Facebook photo of their son holding a rifle his father gave him for his upcoming 11th birthday led the state´s child welfare agency to their home, demanding to be let inside and inspect their guns. The family of Josh Moore asked caseworkers and police to leave their Carneys Point home last Friday because they did not have a search warrant. Attorney Evan Nappen says a child welfare worker refused to identify herself before leaving. The case has riled gun-rights advocates, who say the family was defending its constitutional right against unreasonable search and seizure.

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder, the nation´s chief law enforcement officer, returned to the courthouse where he once served as a judge, this time in the role of prospective juror performing his civic duty. The Justice Department said Holder wasn´t chosen and that he won´t be called back. Had he been selected for the jury Tuesday, the attorney general would have been on a panel hearing an armed robbery case. Holder sat in the last row of Judge Stuart Nash´s courtroom along with other prospective jurors as the judge gave details of the case.

Upstate New York´s Catskill Mountain Range is a bucolic place near and dear to my heart. Dear God, please stop. Sickening as it might seem, they’re talking war again in Washington. On the 10th anniversary of the Iraq invasion, with thousands dead and billions of dollars squandered, there are reports that the Syrian regime used chemical weapons against its own people. If substantiated, Bashar al-Assad has crossed a “red line” that President Obama drew — under pressure from hawkish lawmakers and hand-wringing global leaders. “If today’s reports are substantiated ... we would urge him to take immediate action to impose the consequences he has promised,” Republican

On the Senate floor this morning, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) implied the explosion that killed seven Marines at an ammunitions depot in Hawthorne, Nevada was due to the "cutting back in training and maintenance" in the sequester. HARRY REID: As I indicated, it was quite a big explosion. We´ll follow this news very closely. I will do whatever I can going forward to support the United States military and the families of the fallen Marines. Mr. President, it´s very important we continue training our military, so important. But one of the things in sequester is

Will the government be able to implement Obamacare smoothly? An “impossible endeavor,” writes a reader who describes himself as “83 years young, married to a beautiful lady for 65 years, with a 54-year career in technology starting with punch cards in the Navy, retired from three major corporations at the director level, last position was with EDS working on Y2K project.” He goes on to list some of the things he believes need to be done, which I quote with his permission. I don’t know enough about this to make a judgment myself, but I have noticed over the years

RUSH: Dr. Benjamin Carson has taken the world by storm. Dr. Benjamin Carson from Johns Hopkins University took CPAC by storm. He was on Hannity last night. Anytime he speaks, he just dominates. Everybody loves Dr. Carson, and the reason they love Dr. Carson is he is able to articulate and explain conservatism in a way that is persuasive without raising his voice at all. He sounds like your dad talking to you -- or not your dad, your best buddy talking to you at the table, or in a bar, or whatever the most-nonthreatening place you can be is.

On Dennis Prager’s radio show on Monday, conservative commentator Ann Coulter offered her takeaways from last weekend’s Conservative Political Action Conference held outside Washington, D.C., where Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul won the event’s presidential straw poll. Coulter, author of “Mugged: Racial Demagoguery from the Seventies to Obama,” explained how that happened, which led to her critique of the libertarian movement within college campuses and its antics. “’How did that happen?’ you’re wondering,” she said. “Ron Paul used to win every year because these libertarian

Let´s dispense with the free-speech question first. In a letter to the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission, Mayor Michael Nutter writes: (Snip) The only correct answer to Nutter´s query is "Nuts!" The question isn´t even a close one: A magazine article obviously cannot be the "equivalent of ´[falsely] shouting "fire!" in a crowded theater,´ " which by the way is the laziest cliché in all of constitutional law. Nor does the essay in question, published in the March issue of Philadelphia magazine, run afoul of any of the First Amendment´s limited and narrow exceptions: libel, invasion of privacy,

Colombian Senator Juan Manuel Galan on Tuesdaycalled the United States´ practice of shortening sentences for extradited drug traffickers “ridiculous and insulting.” The Liberal senator from Bogota is calling for a "profound and serious debate" on the extradition process between Colombia and the U.S. His statements coincide with the news of the release of Colombian drug lord Juan Carlos Sierra Ramirez alias "El Tuso" from a U.S prison on March 14. Galan declared that the process has been “eroded” and claimed that in Colombia extradition has taken on an “attractive identity.” “A cartel of intermediaries has sprung up between drug traffickers and the North American justice

Silicon Valley firms and privacy groups want Congress to update a 1986-era electronic privacy law. But if a law enforcement idea set to be presented today gets attached, support for the popular proposal would erode. AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and other wireless providers would be required to capture and store Americans´ confidential text messages, according to a proposal that will be presented to a congressional panel today. The law enforcement proposal would require wireless providers to record and store customers´ SMS messages -- a controversial idea akin to requiring them to surreptitiously record audio
