Police are looking for a would-be bank robber who was told to wait his turn during an attempted heist in St. Clair Shores on Wednesday. The 28- to 35-year-old man with short red hair, a moustache and goatee walked into the Flagstar Bank at 9 Mile and Harper at 2:17 p.m., according to a release issued by St. Clair Shores Police. "He handed a note to the teller stating he had a pistol," the police report says. "The teller told him she was waiting on drive-through customers and he would have to wait." The man waited.

Global temperatures are warmer than at any time in at least 4,000 years, scientists reported Thursday, and over the coming decades are likely to surpass levels not seen on the planet since before the last ice age. Previous research had extended back roughly 1,500 years, and suggested that the rapid temperature spike of the past century, believed to be a consequence of human activity, exceeded any warming episode during those years.

A nonprofit organization in North Carolina funded by progressive mega-donor George Soros has been linked to a partisan strategy memo aimed at derailing the state Republican leadership’s legislative agenda, throwing light on the shadowy network of liberal groups that operate in the state. The memo surfaced as part of a set of leaked documents that also contained liberal talking points and polling data. Stephanie Bass, the communications director for the liberal nonprofit group Blueprint NC, allegedly emailed out the documents. Bass called the documents “CONFIDENTIAL” in her email and asked recipients to

Former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said Friday that President Obama may meet as soon as next week with donors to the nonprofit group that has sprouted from the remnants of his reelection campaign. The possible meeting comes as watchdog groups and Republicans have accused the White House of selling access to the president through the outside group, Organizing for Action (OFA), which accepts unlimited individual donations. "There will be events where our supporters are briefed about what the president is doing, but look, the president has laid out a very clear agenda.

A Michigan elementary school is defending its decision to confiscate a third-graders batch of homemade cupcakes because the birthday treats were decorated with plastic green Army soldiers. Casey Fountain told Fox News that the principal of his son’s elementary school called the cupcakes “insensitive” — in light of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. “It disgusted me,” he said. “It’s vile they lump true American heroes with psychopathic killers.” Fountain’s wife made a batch of 30 chocolate cupcakes for their son Hunter’s classmates at Schall Elementary School

The Outdoor Channel, a leading hunting and fishing-themed television network, announced Thursday that it plans to sell itself to billionaire sports mogul Stan Kroenke’s company, destroying a merger deal with InterMedia Outdoor Holdings, which is owned by major Obama donor and Huffington Post blogger Leo Hindery Jr.’s private equity fund InterMedia Partners. Kroenke Sport and Entertainment has purchased the Outdoor Channel for $227 million in an all-cash deal. The Outdoor Channel board considered Kroenke’s bid a “superior proposal” after Kroenke swooped in this week to outbid Hindery.

Republicans who enjoyed a three-hour private dinner with President Obama at the Jefferson Hotel last night — with POTUS picking up the tab — defended the meeting, even with the optics of leaving their colleague Sen. Ran Paul (R-Ky.) to filibuster while acquiescing to the president. “Last night’s dinner with President Obama and my Republican colleagues was productive and substantive. I hope it will serve as the beginning of a new, long-overdue paradigm where people in elected office actually begin talking to each other about meaningful issues,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). “The discussions with the President

Conservationists today won a landmark High Court battle against plans for a giant wind farm that would have blighted one of the most important surviving Elizabethan gardens in England. A judge ruled that a planning inspector made a “flawed” decision to give the go-ahead to plans for four 415ft turbines on farmland just a mile from Lyveden New Bield, a Grade I listed National Trust property. English Heritage and the National Trust, who backed the legal challenge to the development, said the case had national implications. East Northamptonshire District Council had sought to block proposals submitted by West

Attorney General Eric Holder told senators on Wednesday that he did not respect the House members who voted to hold him in contempt for not cooperating in the Fast and Furious investigation, and that “the president, the White House was not involved in the operational component of Fast and Furious.” Fast and Furious was the Justice Department’s gun-running operation that allowed about 2,000 guns to flow into Mexico under federal supervision before authorities lost control of the guns. The operation began in the fall of 2009 and was

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) said today that the government must cut spending, and then explained that: “Tax cuts are spending.” “Our whole budget is what $3.5 trillion,” Pelosi said at a Capitol Hill press conference. “So, when we talk about reducing spending, we certainly must, and we certainly have--$1.6 trillion in the previous Congress, $1.2 of it in the Budget Control Act. “But spending is also related to tax cuts,” said Pelosi. Tax cuts are spending. Tax expenditures, they are called. Subsidies for big oil, subsidies to send jobs overseas, breaks to send jobs

So, this story will make you chuckle. Politico reported yesterday that the White House has basically told anti-gun groups and their allies in Congress to sit down, shut up, and let the White House drive the push for new gun control. Centralization of power when it comes to messaging has been a core characteristic of this administration, and when it comes to an issue as delicate as gun control – this is a tightly run ship. (Snip) Support whatever the president and Vice President Joe Biden propose. And most of all, don’t make waves or get ahead of

Sen. Rand Paul´s 13-hour filibuster on the Senate floor has rallied the fledgling Tea Party movement from a months-long slump and highlighted the schism between those brassy conservative newcomers and their Republican Party elders. "What a night," Tea Party Express Chairwoman Amy Kremer said after Paul´s filibuster, which began Wednesday about noon and ended about 1 a.m. Thursday. "He has definitely energized the base in a way that it hasn´t been energized in a long time." Paul pledged to "speak until I can no longer speak" to prevent a vote on the nomination of

Much will be written about Sen. Rand Paul’s (R-KY) filibuster. It may be viewed through the prism of history as a turning point. It may be quickly forgotten as subsequent events diminish its relevance. Before Wednesday, however, Paul spoke for a narrow slice of the Republican Party’s coalition. Today, he speaks for a reinvigorated GOP base. But as the hours wore on, another phenomenon began to take shape – Paul’s ultimately unsuccessful efforts to rein in the president spoke directly to the forgotten millions of Americans wary of the ever-expanding scope of the unconstrained global war on terror.

It´s been a very strange, unsettling political news week: President Obama’s sequester idea of forced budget cuts kicked in. Mr. Spend Somemore doesn´t like the idea any longer. So, in true petulant Chicago style the first thing the Obama administration cut was White House tours. These tours of the people´s house that Obama and his mother-in-law occupy at taxpayer expense largely involve volunteer guides. So, the savings don´t equal the cost of one minute of one engine on Air Force One.

Elder Sen. John McCain, who this week engaged in friendly fire when he launched his "maverick" missiles at fellow Republicans seeking clarification on the administration´s drone policies, has upped the ante, deriding Tea Party-backed GOP lawmakers as "wacko birds." McCain, who hit the Senate floor Thursday to belittle Sen. Rand Paul´s filibuster, which succeeded in getting an answer from President Obama that drones won´t be used to kill Americans on U.S. soil, even suggested that the Kentucky senator and his allies, like Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, don´t represent the GOP mainstream.

Juan Williams, the Fox News pundit and former NPR news analyst, has admitted that a column he wrote for The Hill lifted passages from a Center for American Progress report, without attribution. But when asked about the column by Salon´s Alex Seitz-Wald, who first reported the omission, Williams placed the blame on his research assistant. "I was writing a column about the immigration debate and had my researcher look around to see what data existed to pump up this argument and he sent back what I thought were his words and summaries of the data,” Williams told Seitz-Wald.

Do you accept Barack Obama as your Lord and Savior? Chris Rock does -- calling him our father, who art in the White House. The media does as well. The epidemic of pandering press members dropping on their knees in the customary position of worship before our president has become a pandemic. Media loved Bill Clinton, but they didn´t ´intern´ for the guy like they seem to for Barack. A cigar is just a cigar, but, today´s press is smoking something, and it looks more and more like a Barack Obama, choom gang special blend. Note, rearranging the

Jeb Bush isn’t not running for President. This is big news, even though the next presidential election is several zillion tweets away. It shakes up the political money world, where potential saviors like Chris Christie and Marco Rubio may find it much harder to fill their treasuries. It may tee up yet another of those Bush-vs.-Clinton death matches that are so entertaining. But it is potentially more important for those who’d like to see the Republican Party evolve past its current juvenility. Bush is thoughtful, and he thinks big. Asked on Morning Joe to name

Rand Paul’s nearly 13 hour filibuster protesting the use of drones on American citizens on American soil. “No drone is going to be used in the United States against an American citizen walking down a street, or sitting in a cafe,” Feinstein insisted on MSNBC last night. Feinstein joined Sen. John McCain R-Ariz. ridiculing Paul for warning about a drone targeting an American dissident such as actress Jane Fonda. “And then there was the stupid example of a drone being used against Jane Fonda,” Feinstein added. “I mean,

Sean Hannity admitted tonight that despite clarifications from the White House and Eric Holder, he still has serious concerns about the United States’ drone strike policy. Hannity brought on Charles Krauthammer to talk about Rand Paul‘s 13-hour filibuster and how it may be a factor in the rejuvenation of the Republican party grassroots. Hannity and Krauthammer agreed there is great momentum against President Obama that the Republican party can latch onto if they play their cards right. Krauthammer said of Paul’s filibuster that it would be a stunt
