To commemorate the anniversary of their son’s tragic death, one family decided to celebrate the occasion with three people whose lives their son saved through organ donation. Last year, 18-year-old college freshman Ty Osman was driving to Fort Worth, Texas when he stopped at the scene of a roadside accident to help a stranded woman. According to mother Nancy and father, also named Ty, this was typical behavior for their son.‘He died a noble death,’ said Ty Osman. As he helped the woman, the younger Ty was struck and killed by a passing truck, while the woman

President Obama recently stated assertively, "This is the most transparent administration in history, and I can document how that is the case." Obama made the comment without batting an eye or even causing a lightning strike...in fact his comment was uttered with his usual apparent sincerity. Obama, however, was remiss in not tying the added phrase, "the most ethical administration" in history, to the transparency statement as is often his want. The President did this as his administration simultaneously battled to suppress details of the CIA has secret drone program kill list even if the target is

For Mitt Romney, there will be no next chapter in politics — at least no third run for the presidency. But in his first post-campaign interview, the former Massachusetts governor did not shy away Sunday from his criticism of President Obama and said he hoped to help the Republican Party regain its footing — from a distance. “I recognize that as the guy who lost the election, I´m not in a position to tell everybody else how to win,” Romney told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace. “They're not going to listen and I don't have the credibility to do that anyway. But I still care.

More than a quarter of a million Bulgarians and Romanians have come to Britain over the past five years – even before the jobs market is fully opened to them. About half that number were allowed in as farm workers on short-term contracts and thousands more got permanent posts. In total, more than 175,000 National Insurance numbers were handed out to workers from the two countries. The remaining 75,000 people settled here with their families. Campaigners fear that when work restrictions are lifted next year, further pressure will be placed on the jobs market, housing and public services.

Did a collective light bulb turn on in the minds of Saturday Night Live´s writing team this week? "You know, this President Obama guy doesn´t really have a firm grasp of economic matters," one writer suggests. The next, growing bolder, says, "and he´s always using human props to make his point instead of accurate facts and figures ..." The third, standing up, declares, "and FLOTUS does seem to appear across the media much more than any of her predecessors. And so we have last night's opening sketch, a chance to see what a political comedy show can do when it puts aside its partisan blinders

Somebody tell Sandra Fluke: a Democrat state rep on Connecticut made a lewd remark to a 17 year old girl in a hearing, and also refuses to accept females as interns on his staff. Political Wire covered both incidents. Connecticut state Rep. Ernest Hewett (D) made an inappropriate remark to a 17 year old girl testifying about a program that helped her overcome her shyness and get over her fear of snakes, the New London Day reports. Said the girl: "I am usually a very shy person, and now I am more outgoing. I was able to teach those children about certain things

As North Carolina legislators move to close public access to firearm permits, some sheriffs are already refusing to hand over the records. Following a public showdown with the sheriff in Cherokee County, a local newspaper editor quit last week after his records request – which was denied – made him the target of death threats. The county has the state’s highest rate of concealed-handgun permits. In Gaston County, Sheriff Alan Cloninger responded Friday to a newspaper’s request for gun-permit records by withholding names and addresses of permit holders.

In the dark hours of Thursday morning, Feb. 28, I awoke to find CNN featuring a continuous shot of a helicopter. The network cut between a close-up and a distant dot. It was Benedict, flying from the Vatican City. This was extraordinary attention for an ordinary cardinal, because as Benedict told the throng awaiting him, “I am no longer pope.” I am not a scholar of Catholic history, but I believe we were witnessing the first time the papal throne was vacant. It may have been occupied by rogues, scoundrels, impostors or even a woman, but always there was someone sitting there.

Ald. James Cappleman (46th) informed the Salvation Army on Friday that it is no longer welcome to feed the poor in Uptown from its homeless outreach trucks. Cappleman gave the social service agency one month to find a new North Side location — outside his ward — before ceasing operations, said Capt. Nancy Powers, who oversees the Salvation Army’s homeless program in Chicago.

American health care is being transformed, for better or worse. “Better,” in this case, means parts of the Affordable Care Act that have polled well and been enacted, taking their place comfortably in the medical system. These include letting dependent children stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26 and a ban on insurance companies dropping children for pre-existing conditions

WASHINGTON— Mitt Romney says his heart said he was going to win the presidency, but when early results came in on election night, he knew it was not to be. The GOP nominee tells "Fox News Sunday" that he knew his campaign was in trouble when exit polls suggested a close race in Florida. Romney thought he´d win the state solidly. Obama ended up taking Florida and won the election by a wide margin in the electoral vote. Romney says there was "a slow recognition" at that time that President Barack Obama would win —

Pollster John Zogby reports in our weekly White House report card that President Obama is coming off one of his worst weeks. "I am not an ideologue. I call it as I see it. The week President Obama just finished sucked. The Obama administration created the fiscal cliff, has used it as a bludgeon, has ´Chicken Littled´ about its impact, and now says it is only a bump, not a cliff. Their message now is, ´never mind.´ Add to that the White House is threatening a venerable journalist like Bob Woodward? This is, no matter how you cut it,

It’s takedown time. Ald. Howard Brookins Jr., who has been blasting Police Supt. Garry McCarthy for the city’s gang violence, seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth. Critics claim Brookins, who is demanding police grapple harder with guns and gangs, is undermining police action by representing gang members with gun convictions.

Kano – The military said Sunday that it killed 20 Boko Haram Islamists while repelling an attack by the extremist group in the embattled northeastern state of Borno. “Boko Haram terrorists attempted to attack a military barracks (in Borno) at about 5:00 am (0400 GMT),” spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa said in a statement. He said the attack occurred in the village of Monguno, about 200 kilometres (124 miles) from Borno’s restive capital of Maiduguri, considered Boko Haram’s home base where the radical group has been blamed for scores of deadly attacks.

I´m no civil libertarian absolutist, but this disturbing report by Declan McCullagh at C-Net makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end: The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has customized its Predator drones, originally built for overseas military operations, to carry out at-home surveillance tasks that have civil libertarians worried: identifying civilians carrying guns and tracking their cell phones, government documents show. The documents provide more details about the surveillance capabilities

One of the suspended students asked, "How are they going to suspend me for doing the right thing?"

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Lisbon and other Portuguese cities Saturday to protest against the government´s austerity measures aimed at rescuing the debt-hit eurozone nation. The rallies were organised by a non-political movement which claimed 500,000 marched in the country´s capital and another 400,000 in the main northern city of Porto. There have been no official estimates of the crowds. But the mood of the crowd was clearly political, calling for new elections

Democrats and the media have accuses Tea Party favorite Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) of "McCarthyism" merely for posing tough questions to and about Chuck Hagel during the latter´s confirmation as Secretary of Defense. Yet a recent column by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich reveals who the real McCarthyites are in U.S. politics today, as Reich likens the Tea Party to a conspiracy "to undermine the government of the United States." Reich, who has steadfastly supported President Barack Obama´s big-government, tax-and-spend agenda, wrote that the Tea Party had "infiltrated" the government

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) blasted a Democratic super PAC on Saturday night for mocking the Chinese ethnicity of his wife, former U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, with a Valentine’s Day tweet. “They will not get away with attacking my wife in this campaign,” McConnell told about 100 supporters at a Republican dinner in Winchester, Ky., according to the Associated Press. The super PAC, Progress Kentucky, tweeted on Feb. 14: “This woman has the ear of @mcconnellpress — she’s his #wife. May explain why your job moved to #China! rense.com/general77/raci…”

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.— A privately owned Dragon capsule arrived at the International Space Station on Sunday, delivering a ton of supplies with high-flying finesse after a shaky start to the mission. The Dragon’s arrival was one day late but especially sweet — and not because of the fresh fruit on board for the station astronauts who snared the capsule. SpaceX, the California-based company founded by billionaire Elon Musk, had to struggle with the Dragon following its launch Friday from Cape Canaveral. A clogged pressure line or stuck valve prevented thrusters from working, and it took flight controllers several hours
