Consequence to cuts no one
thought would happen

WASHINGTON- It´s not the first time that government economic engineering has produced a time bomb with a short fuse. Back in 2011, few lawmakers, if any, thought deep and indiscriminate spending cuts, totaling about $85 billion and now starting to kick in, were a smart idea. The across-the-board cuts, set up as a last-resort trigger and based on a mechanism used in the 1980s, are a reality largely because President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, failed to find a way to stop them. Republicans, influenced by tea party and other conservative factions, insisted on just

Rep. Jim Clyburn Hammers Justice
Scalia As ‘White And Proud’

On Friday the Huffington Post interviewed Rep. Jim Clyburn on the latest Supreme Court’s hearing on the Voting Rights Act and he had some harsh words for conservative Justice Antonin Scalia saying that his criticism of the landmark civil rights legislation is rooted in the fact that he is “white and proud.” During last week’s hearings Scalia said that the 1965 legislation created a “racial entitlement” that is very difficult to get out through “the normal political process.” Clyburn compared these remarks to what he experienced growing up in South Carolina, saying that he developed an immunity

#JediMindMeld drama continues

One person described it as the “ultimate nerd sin.” Others didn’t think it’s so bad. But President Barack Obama took heat online for tangling the Jedi mind trick with the Vulcan mind meld. Obama said Friday he didn´t have the power to "somehow do a Jedi mind meld with these folks and convince them to do what´s right" on reaching a deal to avert the forced budget cuts known in Washington as the sequester. The comment came in response to a question from CNN chief White House correspondent Jessica Yellin after the president met with top congressional leaders

President Obama and top administration officials are struggling with accuracy in explaining the impact of billions in federal budget cuts known as sequester that kicked in Saturday morning -- even getting called out by a Capitol Hill superintendent about furloughs for support staffers. Carlos Elias, the Capitol Building superintendent, sent out a memo Friday reminding staffers that the current sequestration plan does not include “reductions in force or furloughs” and that “pay and benefit of each of our employees will not be impacted.” Though not directly mentioning Obama by name,

Insanity. It’s not just a mental illness. It’s also an identity. Men in dresses claim that gender is in the mind, not in the body. If you think you’re a woman, then you are a woman. What used to be a minor form of eccentric insanity has now become educational policy in schools. But why stop at gender when you can also do species? There are people who believe that their true identity is that of an animal. And who is to say that species isn’t in the mind, just like gender is in the mind?

Remaking the Grade

One of the biggest problems in education today is grade inflation and the devaluation of the B grade, according to education expert Wendy Mogel ("The Blessing of a B Minus"). "I travel around the country and hear high-school students say ´I feel like my future is doomed´ if they get a B," she said. Winemakers today might be excused for feeling the same way. The wine-rating equivalent of a B grade (85-89 points) can mean a wine might be hard to sell or might not show up on certain store shelves, especially when the competition scores 90

Spending cut debate casts pall

Washington -Just hours after across-the-board spending cuts officially took effect, President Barack Obama pressed Congress on Saturday to work with him on a compromise to halt a fiscal crisis that threatens the economy and his broader domestic policy agenda. The failure by Obama and Republicans to agree to halt the $85 billion ´sequester´ cuts virtually guaranteed that fiscal issues would remain center stage in Washington for weeks, crowding out Obama´s proposals to reform immigration, tighten gun laws and raise the minimum wage. The economic effects of the spending cuts may take time to kick in, but political blowback has

Now Biden tells women to ‘shoot

Vice President Joe Biden said that Americans don´t need semi-automatic weapons to protect their homes because a couple of blasts from a shotgun will scare off intruders. But a new video argues the double-barreled kick may be too much for some women to handle and stay upright. ´Buy a shotgun, buy a shotgun,´ the vice president encouraged those worried about defending themselves. However the advice was criticized as out of touch and sexist by some women who said they´d much prefer an AR-15. Scroll down for video

Bob Woodward, Lanny Davis and any others with the cojones to speak out against the anti-American policies of the Obama regime should take a page from the book of the savvy Dr. Ben Carson. With the Marxist strategies of the regime, coupled with a complicit media at play, it is a mistake to lay bare plans, or to give any kind of heads up to in-the-tank Obama minions. Don’t show your hands, fellas, use the kind of successful strategy employed by on-the-rise folk hero Ben Carson.

Thomasville — The symbolic end of a company that sustained for generations the town for which it was named came neither with a bang nor a whimper. No, it came in the form of the FOR SALE sign that went up in front of the building that once housed Thomasville Furniture Industries global headquarters. For the low, low price of just $2.25 million, a buyer could own 225,000 square feet that includes 7 acres of land, showrooms, office space and a garden courtyard in the middle that ties it all together. Oh, and it also comes with plenty of free parking,

Little Rock — Little Rock may not be a likely terrorism target or a gang crime hotspot, but the Arkansas capital has decided to follow the example of high-security cities by expanding electronic surveillance of its streets. A police car with a device that photographs license plates moves through the city and scans the traffic on the streets, relaying the data it collects to a computer for sifting. Police say the surveillance helps identify stolen cars and drivers with outstanding arrest warrants. It also allows authorities to monitor where average citizens might be at any particular time.

Seattle’s ban on plastic bags may be good for the planet, but some local store owners say it has proven catastrophic for their bottom line. Mike Duke, who runs the Lake City Grocery Outlet grocery store, said that since the City Council unanimously passed the ban last July, he has lost at least $5,000 in shoplifted produce and between $3,000-$4,000 in swiped frozen food. ‘We’ve never lost that much before,’ Duke told KBOI News.(Snip) But according to Duke, the ´green´ canvas totes make it much harder for loss-prevention officers to detect what the customers have purchased and

Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey consulted with a battery of theologians while preparing The History Channel miniseries The Bible. The spiritually strong couple wanted to get every detail right for an adaptation of the most popular book of all time. The couple also heeded the wisdom of their own teenagers who gently cautioned them not to make the special effects “lame.” Burnett and Downey understand the potential impact of The Bible, the 10-part series which begins at 8 p.m. EST Sunday. They also grasp how impressionable viewers, particularly teens, could take the project to heart.

London, England - A new wealth tax is being proposed by the leftist wing (The Liberal Democrats) of our coalition government that will come with unprecedented powers to enter our homes and root through our personal possessions to value rings, necklaces, paintings and furniture, anything that might raise more taxes. If we refuse to be inspected or get our own valuations wrong, we would be facing fines, maybe even a jail sentence. This brainchild was conceived by the Lib Dems for their next election manifesto and is part of a series of measures planned to tax the better off.

Denver - A popular hunting shotgun could be banned under one of the bills moving through the state Capitol. A pump or semi-automatic shotgun is the gun most hunters in Colorado use. It’s a gun state Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray, says could be banned under a bill that’s already passed the House and Gov. John Hickenlooper says he’ll sign. “They’re coming after the standard shotgun,” Brophy told CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd. Brophy says if Democrats succeed in passing a bill limiting large capacity magazines in Colorado, they’ll outlaw the most popular selling firearm for hunting.

The Superintendent of Capitol tried to assure staff on Friday that employees will not receive a cut in pay as a result of sequestration, despite President Barack Obama’s claims to the contrary. In a news conference earlier in the day, Obama warned that starting on Saturday “the folks who are cleaning the floors at the Capitol” and “the janitors, the security guards” would face a pay cut. But in a letter to supervisors and building staff, obtained by POLITICO, superintendent Carlos Elias said “the current sequestration plan does NOT include ‘Reductions in Force’ or Furloughs.

The government watchdog group Judicial Watch is suing the Treasury Department for records pertaining to the department’s decision to grant a Chinese government-backed company access to oil deposits in the Gulf of Mexico, a move that will benefit Obama donors. The Chinese National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) reached a “definitive agreement” with Nexen, Inc., a Canadian energy company, announced on July 23, 2012, to buy all of the company’s outstanding public shares. Nexen has holdings in the Gulf of Mexico and Canada, giving the Chinese government access to millions of barrels of

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Instead of making a move, Tiger Woods was stuck in neutral Saturday at the Honda Classic. "If you play well, you can shoot about 5- or 6-under par, there´s no doubt," Woods said. "There are some accessible pins. The greens are perfectly smooth out there. They
