DHS releasing hundreds of illegal

The Department of Homeland Security has started releasing hundreds of illegal immigrants held in local jails in anticipation of automatic budget cuts, in a move one Arizona sheriff called politically motivated -- and dangerous. (Snip) The numbers, though, are in dispute. ICE officials said that it´s unclear how many ultimately might be released and that only 303 have been released from four Arizona facilities so far, though all those are in Pinal County. According to ICE, 2,280 detainees are still in custody in those facilities. Babeu described the move as a "mass budget pardon" and suggested

Some members of Congress apparently don’t like to be reminded about how much debt the country continues to rack up. During a House Financial Services Committee hearing Tuesday on the budget, two Democrats complained after House Financial Services Committee chairman Jeb Hensarling instructed that two monitors in the hearing room display a real-time running national debt clock. California Rep. Maxine Waters and Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison both issued complaints about the displays, according to video of the hearing. “Clearly it is a political prop designed to message ideologically,” Ellison said. Waters asked that the debt clock not be on display whenever Democrats spoke,

With the sequester all but certain to go into effect at the end of the month, the only suspense associated with the topic is whether the Democratic expectation that the public will blame it all on the Republicans will be vindicated in the coming weeks. So far, polls show them to be largely correct, and should the administration’s predictions of post-sequester doom and gloom come true it may not be possible for the GOP to resist the pressure to give in to the president’s demands for more tax increases. Some guys have it, and some don’t. I’m referring to that special quality that makes powerful institutions want to throw fistfuls of dollars at them in senseless acts of high-priced beneficence. Jack Lew has it like nobody’s business. You might think the bespectacled treasury-secretary nominee is just another brainy budget wonk and miss the animal magnetism that makes his employers lose all sense of financial proportion around him, paying him astronomical sums, forgiving his loans, and granting him generous golden parachutes. Yes, Jack Lew is a rare talent — at the art of getting paid.

Only four Republicans crossed party lines on Tuesday to approve President Barack Obama´s defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel, but no senator sparked more confusion than Kentucky´s Rand Paul, a vocal critic of Hagel who nonetheless cast his vote in favor of the former Nebraska senator. Just hours after he had voted against a procedural measure to end debate over Hagel´s nomination, Paul offered his support for Hagel´s confirmation. Paul´s spokeswoman explained that the senator decided to support Hagel because he believes that presidents should get "some leeway" on political appointments, an opinion he has been open about in the past.

Despite the president’s “Sequestration Is Armaggedon” road show, Republican members of Congress seem uniformly unflapped by the impending automatic budget cuts. “It is a tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury and signifying nothing!” Representative Tim Huelskamp (R., Kan.) tells National Review Online with a laugh. “I’m not a great Shakespeare fan, but it fits now here. And I really think most Americans will wake up on Friday morning and say, ‘Come on, what was it all about?’” Huelskamp adds that he’d prefer to hold off sequestration and make minor reductions

Corruption: The White House denies a report that it is selling access to the president for $500,000 through its new Organizing for Action "social welfare group." Frankly, that´s not believable, given what´s already been going on. As if it weren´t bad enough already that President Obama has decided to keep his campaign machine active as a tax-exempt, "social welfare organization" to advocate his political agenda, it´s a fact that anyone who writes a check for $500,000 sits on OFA´s "national advisory board" and gets face time with the president four times a year.

Obama and the Sequester Scare

President Obama´s message could not be clearer: Life as we know it in America will change dramatically on March 1, when automatic cuts are imposed to achieve $85 billion in government-spending reductions. Furloughed government employees, flight delays and criminals set free are among the dire consequences the president has predicted. If the Washington Monument weren´t already closed for repairs, no doubt it too would be shut down. Scare tactics such as these are similar to the ones that were made when I co-authored the first sequester legislation in 1985, the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act.

Sequestration: The president is trying to sow panic over a 2.4% trim in federal spending. But countless Americans have had to cut more from their budgets. Well may they wonder: Why can´t Washington? To hear President Obama tell it, the sky will fall this week and it all will be the Republicans´ fault. He´s on the road trying to scare up outrage over the $85 billion in automatic cuts to federal spending that kick in, barring action from Congress, this Friday. So where is the panic? Despite the administration´s best efforts to produce it, we see none.

And globalism comes before "protecting the country from catastrophic attack," says our top general. Barack Obama apparently got his foreign policy thinking not from anything he learned at Columbia or Harvard (where we still don´t know his grades), but from noted diplomats Lionel Richie and the late Michael Jackson. "We Are the World" was their 1985 Live Aid anthem to raise money to fight famine in Ethiopia — much of which ended up in the pockets of dictator Mengistu

On the February 26 edition of the program the self-described “true conservative” Scarborough slammed CPAC as not being about winning elections, but instead being an echo-chamber that focuses on “hate” and “anger.” The segment began with liberal co-host Brzezinski expressing shock over the line-up of speakers at CPAC, including Sen.Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, prompting Scarborough to throw out that,

Two leading Republican senators pushing changes to the nation´s immigration laws have met with President Barack Obama and say they´re convinced of his commitment to signing comprehensive immigration legislation. The praise from Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina comes even though some other Republicans say Obama just wants to pursue immigration as a political issue to get Latino support and isn´t truly committed to a bill. Regularly now, The Washington Post, as always concerned with fairness and balance, runs a blog called "Right Turn: Jennifer Rubin´s Take From a Conservative Perspective." The blog tells us what the Post regards as conservatism. On Monday, Rubin declared that America´s "greatest national security threat is Iran." Do conservatives really believe this? How is America, with thousands of strategic and tactical nuclear weapons, scores of warships in the Med, Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean, bombers and nuclear subs and land-based missiles able to strike and incinerate Iran within half an hour, threatened by Iran?

TAMPA - A waterspout crossed northern Hillsborough Bay Tuesday morning, hitting Harbour Island. Because it moved over land, the waterspout then technically became classified as a small tornado, according to forecasters. It caused damage and frayed nerves. A chunk of roofing was quickly found in the road near One Harbour Place. It wasn´t immediately clear where the twisted piece of metal came from. A group of bank employees said they took refuge in the vault when they heard a "loud noise" and likened it to the often-referred-to freight train.

The heavy-water complex at Arak makes a vital contribution to this programme, as nuclear experts believe it has the potential to produce sufficient quantities of plutonium for an atomic bomb.

The US Senate has confirmed former Senator Chuck Hagel as the new Pentagon chief, after a bloc of Republicans dropped their opposition to him. The former Republican Nebraska senator was confirmed by 58-41 in a simple majority vote.[Snip] The Senate move comes 12 days after Republicans delayed a vote, questioning his past positions on Israel and Iran and his qualifications for the post. But critics dropped the manoeuvre, the first for a defence secretary confirmation, after a week-long recess. Mr Obama´s Democratic Party holds a 55-45 edge in the chamber, and Mr Hagel ultimately only needed 51 votes to be confirmed.

Washington - The US Senate voted to confirm Chuck Hagel as America´s next secretary of defense in a 58-41 vote Tuesday afternoon. The approval resolves weeks of delay and recrimination over the nomination, which Republicans initially held up over criticisms of Hagel´s record on Iran, Israel and several other Middle East-related issues.(Snip) The vote was held after enough Republican senators agreed to allow the procedure earlier in the day. With Republicans clearing the way for a vote, Hagel was all but assured confirmation on a straight up-or-down tally, as the chamber has a Democratic majority.
