Another euro-pegged government defending an overvalued exchange rate bites the dust, a reminder that the underlying economic and social disaster across the Europe’s Arc of Depression is still getting worse. Bulgarian prime minister Boiko Borisov resigned this morning after days of mass protests against austerity across the country. “I will not participate in a government under which police are beating people. Every drop of blood is a shame for us,” he said. “Our power was handed to us by the people, today we are handing it back to them.” This follows the defenestration of the free-market finance minister earlier this

Dan Friedman of the New York Daily News wrote a piece today suggesting that he was the inadvertent source of Breitbart News’ story on “Friends of Hamas” in early February. There’s only one problem. That’s false, and Friedman knew it was false when he printed the story. Welcome to the Obama media, where protecting Chuck Hagel and attacking any media who question Hagel is par for the course. On February 7, 2013, Breitbart News reported: Senate sources told Breitbart News exclusively that they have been informed that one

Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. pleaded guilty this morning to conspiring with his wife, former Ald. Sandi Jackson, to siphon about $750,000 in federal campaign funds for the couple’s personal use, and could face years in prison. Sandi Jackson was scheduled to plead guilty this afternoon to a single charge of tax fraud tied to the same allegations that the couple repeatedly tapped the ex-congressman’s campaign fund, used the money for personal use and then made fraudulent campaign and tax disclosures to cover up the misconduct.

When people think about conservative “all stars” in the Senate (if people ever actually think about such a thing), a few names probably come to mind. There’s Jim DeMint of South Carolina, who before leaving the Senate to run the Heritage Foundation—a conservative Think Tank—was the godfather of the tea party in the upper chamber. Then of course there is Rand Paul, son of Ron, libertarian champion from Kentucky. A little less known, but still with some name recognition, are Mike Lee of Utah and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, former head of the Club for Growth.

Major Christian groups reacted in shock after seeing last weekend´s Saturday Night Live movie parody featuring Jesus Christ striking back against his enemies, Django style. Concerned Women for America said the skit was made to "degrade and taunt," while The Catholic League´s Bill Donahue called the parody "vicious." The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) also joined in the outrage, declaring the "violent depiction of Jesus" in Djesus Uncrossed deplorable. The skit, featuring show host Christoph Waltz as Jesus, spoofed the revenge fantasy Django Unchained by having Jesus fight back against the Romans who crucified him. In a statement,

Oscar Pistorius’ lawyer Wednesday tore into the lead South African detective accusing the Olympic and Paralympics sprinter of the pre-meditated murder of his girlfriend, forcing him to admit he found no inconsistencies between the evidence and Pistorius’ account of how he accidentally shot model Reeva Steenkamp after mistaking her for a burglar. The police “take every piece of evidence and try to extract the most possibly negative connotation and present it to the court,” Pistorius’ defense lawyer Barry Roux told the court. Later Roux repeatedly asked National Prosecuting Authority investigating officer, Det. Warrant Officer Hilton Botha,

New England fishermen facing a dire future for their industry asked Congress in a letter Tuesday for immediate help surviving deep and impending cuts to their catch limits. The letter, signed by 173 fishermen in ports from Connecticut to Maine, came as the industry prepares for May 1 catch reductions that fishermen warn could finish off the fleet. A 77 percent cut in the catch limit for cod in the Gulf of Maine and

Seven years after it arrived in the U.S., Al Jazeera is putting up its sign. As it launches a major expansion to become a full-fledged cable news channel in the U.S., the Qatar-owned network believes animosity toward its sister Arabic-language news operation has waned. Or at least it has dissipated enough to allow Al Jazeera to splash its name across its new Washington broadcast center, which is currently housed in a dingy, unmarked office building. "Imagine six or seven years ago, trying to find real estate for Al Jazeera in Washington.

PRETORIA, South Africa – The detective leading the police investigation into Oscar Pistorius´ fatal shooting of his girlfriend offered confusing testimony Wednesday, at one point agreeing with the athlete´s defense that officers had no evidence challenging the runner´s claim he accidentally killed her. Testimony by Detective Warrant Officer Hilton Botha of the South African Police Service left prosecutors rubbing their temples, only able to look down at their notes as he misjudged distances and acknowledged a forensics team left in the toilet bowl one of the bullet slugs fired at Reeva Steenkamp.

PRETORIA, South Africa The spokesman for the state prosecutor in the Oscar Pistorius case says there was an error in a detective´s testimony when he identified a substance police found in the athlete´s bedroom as testosterone. Medupe Simasiku, a spokesman for South Africa´s National Prosecution Agency, said it is too early to identify the substance as it is still undergoing laboratory tests. Detective Warrant Officer Hilton Botha, the investigating officer, said earlier Wednesday in court that police found testosterone and needles in the bedroom of the Olympic athlete.

A week from now, a dramatic new federal policy is set to go into effect that threatens U.S. national security, thousands of jobs and more. In a bit of irony, President Obama stood Tuesday with first responders who could lose their jobs if the policy goes into effect. Most Americans are just hearing about this Washington creation for the first time: the sequester. What they might not realize from Mr. Obama´s statements is that it is a product of the president´s own failed leadership.

On Tuesday night, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) faced a frustrated crowd when defending his immigration plan during a town hall meeting. Responding to concerns about border security, McCain received a less-than-pleased reaction from residents. “There are 11 million people living here illegally,” he said. “We are not going to get enough buses to deport them.” About border security, McCain highlighted the need to utilize better technology, according to an Associated Press report. Furthermore, he said a pathway to citizenship should require learning English, as well as paying back taxes and fines for breaking immigration laws.

The ultimate purpose of the U.S. military is simple: Defend the God-given liberty of Americans. Yet today we have a president who is using his power as commander in chief to wage war against the moral truth that makes liberty possible. Last week, outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta executed a directive from President Obama that requires the military to treat cohabitating homosexuals as if they were married couples. Panetta did so in a memorandum he sent to the secretaries of the military departments and to the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness.

Conservative leaders are voicing their support for Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after the freshman senator came under fire from some Senate colleagues and liberal pundits for his tough questioning of Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel, criticism that included equating Cruz with the late anti-communist Senator Joe McCarthy (R-Wisc.) “Senator Ted Cruz came to Washington to advance conservative policies, not play by the same old rules that have relegated conservatives, and their ideas, to the back bench,” Michael Needham, president of the influential Heritage Action said on Tuesday. “It should come as absolutely no surprise the

The Media Research Center (MRC), a conservative watchdog group that tracks liberal bias in the news, rented five large billboards in Times Square over the weekend as part of its “Stop Censoring the News” campaign to educate the public about how certain media outlets apparently are spinning their coverage or simply censoring news critical of the Obama administration to protect and promote a liberal agenda. The five billboards are clustered together in Times Square and face in different directions, covering 3,800 square feet. Two of the signs read, “It’s Time the Liberal Media Stop Censoring the News!” and

The 2012 presidential race in Texas might as well have been in Mexico, so little did the Democrats campaign for the state’s 38 electoral votes. Yet during a fund-raising swing on a sweltering July day, President Obama let a political secret out of the bag for his rich donors. “You’re not considered one of the battleground states,” he said, “although that’s going to be changing soon.” Democrats are champing at the bit to turn Texas blue. “People are now looking at Texas and saying: ‘That’s where we need to make our next investment. That’s where the next opportunity lies,’

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner describes the upcoming sequester as a policy “that threatens U.S. national security, thousands of jobs and more.” Which leads to the question: Why would Republicans support a measure that threatens national security and thousands of jobs? Boehner and the GOP are determined to allow the $1.2 trillion sequester go into effect unless President Obama and Democrats agree to replacement cuts, of an equal amount, that target entitlement spending. If that doesn’t happen — and it seems entirely unlikely —

Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae, the three major Government Enterprises created to control the U.S. housing market, issued 99.3 percent of all mortgage backed securities (MBS) in 2012, according to Freddie Mac’s 2013 Investor Presentation. As recently as 2005 these government agencies backed just 45 percent of all mortgages issued in the United States, although they did purchase vast quantities of the mortgages backed by private issuers. Fannie Mae, created by President Roosevelt during the New Deal, and Freddie Mac, created by Congress in 1970, were both nominally private corporations before the housing bubble popped in 2008.

Documents obtained by The Daily Caller show that staffers for then-Sen. Chuck Hagel met repeatedly with a controversial pro-Iran lobby group, and some met with the organization’s president. Hagel is President Barack Obama’s choice to be the next secretary of defense. Arizona Sen. John McCain and other Republicans have conceded that a vote — and likely confirmation — will take place during the week of Feb. 25. Iranian state-run media have referred to the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC) since at least 2006 as “Iran’s lobby” in the U.S.

WASHINGTON-The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has a grand sounding code of ethics that journalists once lived by, and in some cases, died trying to live up to. The truth seekers have gone, the truth tellers are rapidly dying off. The “news” is little more than political campaign for a particular party. Every subject is skewed and skewered to the point that everything you see hear and read should be taken with the proverbial “grain of salt.” A recent article on the popular progressive website Politico refers to Obama

In January, the Mexico Permanent Commission reportedly voted to formally ask the United States Senate for a registry of all commercialized firearms in the border states of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. According to Informador, the proposition was introduced by Senator Marcela Guerra, who stated he introduced the resolution in hopes that it would make it easier to trace guns used in violent crimes. The owner of the struggling Revel casino in Atlantic City, N.J., is preparing to file for bankruptcy protection in the coming weeks, less than a year after the casino opened. Revel AC Inc., which carries about $1.5 billion in debt, said Tuesday it has reached a deal with investment-firm lenders on a prearranged bankruptcy plan. It expects to seek Chapter 11 protection as soon as mid-March, said people familiar with the company´s plans. The casino company is expected to continue paying employees and operate normally during the bankruptcy proceedings.
