Google’s self-driving car – now emblazoned with a “Don’t Mess With Texas” bumper sticker – is hitting the streets Tuesday in Austin. As we mentioned Monday, the Google vehicle has generated a ton of buzz at the two-day Texas Transportation Forum in Austin. That excitement reached a crescendo Tuesday, as Google product manager Anthony Levandowski overviewed the self-driving program during a panel discussion. And a few lucky VIPs – including some Texas Department of Transportation officials – even got to experience the self-driving machine first-hand during a series of 10-minute test drives.

“It is our generation’s task, then, to reignite the true engine of America’s economic growth — a rising, thriving middle class.” So said Barack Obama in his State of the Union. And for one of his ideas to reignite that engine, Republicans applauded. “And tonight, I am announcing that we will launch talks on a comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union — because trade that is free and fair across the Atlantic supports millions of good-paying American jobs.” One wonders if any of those in the hall who rose Source corrected by staff.

The Duchess of Cambridge returned to the day job after a relaxing holiday on the island of Mustique today - and she looked the picture of health this morning as she attended an official engagement in London, her tiny bump highlighted with a flattering wrap dress. The Duchess, making her first appearance since returning from her break last week - and for the first time at an official engagement with a baby bump - chose a black and white MaxMara Studio dress from the 2011 collection, decided to forgo a coat, despite the chill in the air, and accessorised

Among those dead is the suspected gunman, who police say killed himself before officers could take him into custody. At least two other people were reportedly wounded during the chaotic rampage, which involves at least three attempted carjackings and six crime scenes. “The suspect shot and killed himself,” Lt. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will make his first official trip overseas next week, and his agenda includes meetings in nine nations across Europe and the Middle East. But there will be no stops in Israel or the Palestinian territories. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland says Kerry is bypassing Jerusalem and Ramallah while Israeli political parties continue to form a government after recent elections. Kerry departs Feb. 24. He will visit close U.S. allies and partners: Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar. His diplomacy will focus on the conflicts in Mali,

Conservatives were electrified the other week by Dr. Ben Carson´s appearance at the National Prayer Breakfast. Partly it was because he was taking it to The Man. But partly we were all thrilling to Dr. Carson because he is a living breathing poster boy for the idea of personal responsibility. Put simply, we conservatives thrilled to Ben Carson because we are the People of the Responsible Self. Let me explain. Or rather, let sociologist Robert Bellah explain. In "Evolution of Religion" Bellah argues that the "conception of a responsible self" got started over two millennia ago when

David Axelrod, former White House advisor and senior strategist for President Obama’s 2008 and 2012 election campaigns, is joining MSNBC and NBC News as a senior political analyst, the networks announced today. It marks a return to the world of journalism for the formerly mustachioed politico. He was the City Hall bureau chief at the Chicago Tribune for eight years before launching his own media and political consulting firm. His move is the latest in a post-election reshuffling at the cable news networks. In January, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin left Fox News after three highly lucrative years

NBC continues to lead the way in belittling any and all Republican attempts to stand up to President Obama. On Sunday’s Today, David Gregory rehashed the common left-wing talking point that Republicans are opposing Obama at every turn merely for the sake of being obstructionist. Commenting on Republican opposition to the Chuck Hagel nomination, Gregory said, “There’s no question that this looks to be similar to what people are criticizing Republicans for doing on the economy or on spending, on these various battles they’ve had over the debt, which is just trying to jam

For the second time in recent weeks, President Obama used the bully pulpit to make the case for dodging the rapidly-approaching package of automatic cuts known as the sequester. “It won’t help the economy. It won’t create jobs. It will visit hardship on a whole lot of people,” Obama said in remarks earlier Tuesday, adding later: “The American people have worked too hard, for too long, rebuilding from one crisis to see their elected officials cause another.” But, it would be a mistake to assume that Obama’s emphasis on the need to avert the sequester means that he believes

Marine Gen. John R. Allen, the longest-serving leader of U.S. and NATO troops in Afghanistan, asked President Obama on Tuesday morning to accept his retirement from the military because his wife is seriously ill, a move that nullifies his nomination to be the supreme allied commander in Europe, according to his aides. Obama granted Allen’s request, the aides said. The decision deprives Obama of a four-star general with whom he had built a close wartime relationship and forces the White House to find a new candidate for the military’s most prestigious overseas assignment.

TUCSON — It´s routine for immigration officials in Arizona to detain people suspected of being in the country illegally. Monday, however, the detention of two men — an immigrant rights activist and a father of six in Tucson — sparked protests, frustrated local authorities and illustrated the difficulties of complying with SB 1070, the state´s controversial immigration enforcement law. "This is unjust," Alma Hernandez yelled in Spanish to a crowd of about 300 that gathered in front of the Tucson Police Department to protest the detentions. Hernandez, a spokeswoman with the civil rights organization Corazón de Tucson, riled up

Chuck Todd can´t imagine what could ever have given conservative politicians the idea that the MSM is unfriendly to them. C´mon Chuck: we know you´re a NewsBusters reader. Every day here, we document the liberal media´s hostility to conservatives. On today´s Morning Joe, NBC political director Todd repeatedly spoke of a supposed "mythology" among conservative politicians and their staffs that the "big, bad non-conservative media" is "out to get conservatives." That in turn explains why, according to Todd, conservative officials are reluctant to appear on non-Fox shows.

President Obama´s super-secret practice of golfing just with donors, friends and underlings is coming under fire from an unsual source: Former Newsweek Assistant Managing Editor Evan Thomas. The Daily Beast contributor who once called Obama a "sort of God" is blasting the president for being "cocky," "peevish," "crotchety," and "self-involved," when it comes to dealing with Congress and he recommends an about-face to being more like laid-back former President Dwight Eisenhower. The mainstream media seems to be giving up its fight with conservatives that it acted as an arm of the Obama campaign in the last presidential election. The new trend: hiring Obama insiders. The latest proof came Tuesday when NBC announced the hiring of chief Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod as a "senior political strategist." A week earlier, the Washington Post added Obama and Democratic advisor Hilary Rosen, notable for sneering that Ann Romney "never worked a day in her life." Axelrod will appear on both NBC and MSNBC broadcasts, the network said.

President Barack Obama says his top priority -- the "north star" of his second-term -- is to do "everything we can to grow the economy and create good, middle-class jobs." And that means taking more tax money from wealthy Americans, on top of the higher tax rates that Congress went along with a few months ago. Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, President Obama said Republicans have a choice: "Do you want to see a bunch of first responders lose their jobs because you want to protect some special interest tax loophole?"

Outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has unilaterally issued a directive stating that the U.S. military will now extend certain benefits to unmarried domestic partners that were formerly reserved for married couples—but will only do so if the domestic partners certify in writing to the Department of Defense that they are of the same sex. Heterosexual unmarried partners do not qualify for the benefits—and thus are treated unequally by Panetta’s directive on the basis of their sexual orientation. Panetta issued his directive in a Feb. 11 memorandum to the secretaries of the military departments and the

CHARLOTTE – Barack Obama is absolutely correct, he really is the most transparent president in history. Obama’s message has been remarkably consistent for his entire presidency. Ever since he told Joe the Plumber on the rope line during the campaign of 2008 that “everybody deserves a fair shot and wealth should be distributed so that everyone is on a level playing field” Obama’s strategy has been unwavering. We have listened to the prevaricator in chief deliver speech after speech ad nauseam and the talking points are always crystal clear. That is transparency. Like it or not,

Naysayers and critics have not blunted the unapologetic enthusiasm of determined tea partyers. The grass-roots movement observes its fourth anniversary Tuesday, marking an event that resonated with many Americans on Feb 19, 2009. That was the day CNBC analyst Rick Santelli gave a “rant heard ‘round the world” on live TV, declaring that the fiscally irresponsible federal government was behaving badly, and that a tea party-style revolt might be in order. Since then, the tea party has been declared dead on several occasions by mocking pundits. But that does not appear to be so. Organizers are intent on raising
