Democratic senator pushing

Just last week, Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu argued during a Capitol Hill hearing that the government needs more tax revenue. But in a twist of hypocrisy, the Louisiana senator and her husband appear to have not yet paid $1,206.95 in tax penalties to the District of Columbia government on their Capitol Hill home, The Daily Caller has learned. According to public records available online in the District of Columbia’s “Real Property Assessment Database,” the D.C. government has penalized Landrieu $1,003.33, plus $202.62 in interest, for 2012 taxes on her mansion on East Capitol Street.

Israel has completed the sale of electronic warfare systems to the Turkish air force, despite ongoing strained relations between the two countries. The original deal, worth 200 million dollars, involved Israel´s ELTA Systems Ltd., a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, delivering electronic systems for four Turkish Airborne Warning and Control Systems(AWAC) aircraft. Two of the aircraft had already been fitted with the systems in the past. Following the 2010 Marvi Marmara ship incident, in which Turkish Islamist activists attacked Israel Navy commandos, an incident that resulted in the deaths of nine pro-Palestinian activists and pushed ties between Ankara and

Host Bob Schieffer explained that, “The White House finally acknowledged this week that the president did not make a call to the Libyan government” on the night of September 11, 2012. Schieffer went on to say that it seemed, after the president received a briefing that afternoon, he had “no further involvement,” and asked “what was the president doing?” McDonough, who was deputy national-security adviser at the time, said “I don’t remember it that way,” and explained that, as outlined in a letter the administration sent to Congress this week, “Secretary of State Clinton called

Barack Obama will become the first serving US president to receive Israel´s presidential medal, from his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres on a visit to the Jewish state next month, Peres´s office said on Monday. "President Obama has made a unique and meaningful contribution to strengthening the state of Israel and the security of its people," it said in a statement. "Barack Obama is a true friend of the state of Israel and has been since the beginning of his public life. As president of the United States he has stood beside Israel in times of crisis," it added.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) said this, on the subject of comprehensive immigration reform: “I think people want a party that’s a little bit less aggressive on foreign policy, still believes in a strong national defense but less aggressive. They want — the young people want politicians who don’t want them in jail for 20 years for a nonviolent drug position charge. So, they want a little bit different phase. I think people want a little different phase on immigration frankly. They don’t want somebody who wants to round

Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns has announced he will not run for re-election. In a letter to Nebraskans, Johanns said it is time for this chapter in his and Stephanie´s life to end. They want to spend more time focusing on family and their faith. Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman thanked Johanns for his service to the state. “Senator Mike Johanns is a remarkably outstanding public official, said Johanns. Something strange is going on. Federal non-military agencies have bought two billion rounds of ammunition in the last 10 months. The Obama Administration says that federal law enforcement agents need the ammunition for “mandatory quarterly firearms qualifications and other training sessions.” Radio show host Mark Levin is suspicious. He commented: To provide some perspective, experts estimate that at the peak of the Iraq war American troops were firing around 5.5 million rounds per month. At that rate, the [Department of Homeland Security] is armed now for a 24-year Iraq war. A 24-year Iraq war!

Sequester jitters: Defense cuts could

When the behemoth, possibly inevitable $1.2 trillion in spending cuts descend on March 1, the Democrats will be sitting pretty, perched in the most advantageous position. Right? Wrong. A careful new study from Bloomberg Government upends that logic. The analysis shows that Democratic congressional districts will be harder hit by the military cuts than Republican districts, and that eight of the top 10 districts that will experience the deepest cuts are represented by Democrats. Uh-oh. Here is the logic, according to Bloomberg government defense analyst Robert Levinson. He notes that “Democrats won 47 percent of the seats

When Jerry Buss bought the Lakers in 1979, he wanted to build a championship team. But that wasn´t all. The new owner gave courtside seats to movie stars. He hired pretty women to dance during timeouts. He spent freely on big stars and encouraged a fast-paced, exuberant style of play. As the Lakers sprinted to one NBA title after another, Buss cut an audacious figure in the stands, an aging playboy in blue jeans, often with a younger woman by his side. "I really tried to create a Laker image, a distinct identity," he once said."I think we´ve been successful.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) predicted Sunday that Republicans would eventually accept Democrats’ combination of closing tax loopholes and spending cuts to replace sequestration. Schumer characterized the GOP’s plan to offset the across-the-board cuts with other spending cuts and no new revenues as out of step with a majority of voters. The Senate Democratic Policy Committee chairman said Republicans’ preferred path caters to special interests and the wealthy. “I think that the Democrats have the high ground both substantively and politically, and we will win on this issue.

Barack Obama is a master of distraction. It is perhaps the single thing he does best. (Snip)When the public starts looking closely at what he is doing, making him vulnerable on matters of genuine significance, Obama changes the subject, distracting the public with a relatively minor issue. That this new issue usually has “hot button” overtones only helps him because it plays into the anger management issues endemic to the human race. Everyone almost always wants to be right about everything, myself unfortunately included. So his opponents — the GOP — forget about the big issues, concentrate on the insignificant,

Barack Obama is a terrible president. That´s obvious to everyone who isn´t chronically ignorant or incurably liberal. By "liberal" I don´t mean the classic definition of the word which has to do with being open-minded and objective. I mean the modern version of liberal: self-centered, emotional, illogical, and void of reason. Unfortunately, in 2012 ignoramuses and liberals represented the majority of those who voted. I´m not worried about offending them with my harsh words. My very existence offends them, and so does yours if you don´t buy into their worldview.

Congressional Democrats will not commit to forcing votes on major climate change bills, even as they try to build political momentum behind President Obama’s promise to make global warming a second-term priority. Obama’s State of the Union address called on Congress to create a “market-based solution” such as cap-and-trade to limit greenhouse gases, but vowed new executive action if lawmakers do not act. The pledge was a largely rhetorical device to preemptively defend the wielding of executive power. Any action on the issue is almost certain to come from Obama´s desk because bills to cap

Happy Presidents Day! In honor of this federal holiday celebrating the American president, let’s take a trip in our Mediaite wayback machine to when there was an actual, lamentable national conversation about whether or not President Obama is “cool.” As a reminder: Back in April 2012, Obama slow-jammed the news with Jimmy Fallon, sending off a wave of conservative critics blasting the president as “nutso” and too focused on being seen as “cool.” But is Obama really that “cool”? No. Have you seen how dorky the man looks in a White Sox cap and mom jeans?

Lawmakers are applauding what they see as President Obama´s “new emphasis” on the Middle East in his second term after Secretary of State John Kerry confirmed this week that he would be headed there ahead of the president´s trip in March. The twin visits are a tacit acknowledgment that the troubled region´s problems — the civil war in Syria, Iran´s nuclear ambitions and the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process — continue to dominate U.S. foreign policy. Lawmakers say the timing, coming after elections in both the United States and Israel, is ripe for Obama

I admit to being fascinated by the Carnival Cruise ship drama (Twitter hashtags—no kidding—#poopboat and #poopship) as we watched the disabled behemoth limp back to Mobile on Thursday with 4000 crew and passengers in a floating soup of raw sewage and onion sandwiches. As low-information travelers, our family has been on no less than three Carnival cruises, so I know a little about the culture of those ships. It’s an odd mix of senior citizens, families with young children, and the people who purchase the unlimited liquor cards. The seniors play bingo, the children romp around Camp Carnival

He’d like to characterize his misdeeds as “personal,”

The Board of Trustees will hold a hearing on the matter, and then vote on whether to adopt President James Richey’s recommendation that Sweet be fired. According to a report on the investigation:
