The trashing of Ted Cruz continues apace in the bien-pensant MSM. From the New York Times, to the Washington Post, to Politico and elsewhere, the liberal media has the new Republican Senator from Texas in its sights. Joe Scarborough is clearly camped out on the Cruz-bashing bandwagon. Earlier this month, so offended was the sensitive Scarborough by Cruz that he wouldn´t deign to mention him by name. Today, not to be outdone by Frank Bruni, who called Cruz "an ornery, swaggering piece of work," Scarborough declared that Cruz acts like "a carnival barker at a

Every religion has its martyrs, and so it is with the American Left. Myths have been built around myriad “wronged” radicals/communists and endless ink spilled about the injustice of their fate. Indeed, when I looked at more than 15 mainstream U.S. college history textbooks several years ago for my 48 Liberal Lies of American History, almost all of them flatly stated or strongly implied that Sacco and Vanzetti, the Rosenbergs, and Alger Hiss, among others, were prosecuted only for their ideology, not for their crimes. In fact, the leftist hall of shame is filled with culprits who were actually

President Barack Obama´s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission announced last April that the "Enforcement Guidance on the Consideration of Arrest and Conviction Records in Employment Decisions" would be updated so an employer´s use of an "individual’s criminal history in making employment decisions may, in some instances, violate the prohibition against employment discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964." EEOC spokeswoman Christine Nazer wrote in an e-mail to Breitbart News: The EEOC does not--and cannot--force employers to hire ex-convicts... Our interest in employers making employment decisions based on arrest and conviction records is based on

In case anyone hadn’t spotted it by now, culture is the vital element in the success or failure of everything: from our sports teams, to our businesses, to our country as a whole. A bad culture is blamed for our failures, but is frequently overlooked as part of success. Yesterday saw it come to the fore again – in the form of Bob Diamond exposing the negatives of banking culture at the Treasury Select Committee, and across the city, David Cameron enthusing us at the launch of another tech start-up initiative ...

Fox News Watch, Fox’s media bias program, took on the media coverage of the State of the Union and Marco Rubio‘s awkward water bottle moment in his response. Kirsten Powers went after President Obama the hardest, criticizing the media for fawning over every single speech Obama says and derisively saying that being a liberal is more than just liking “every stupid idea” the president has. (Snip) Jon Scott said that most of the media gave Obama a thumbs up for the State of the Union address. Powers said the media finds every one of Obama’s speeches “brilliant,”

Dr. Ben Carson made quite a splash with his remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast — even recently eliciting a “Ben Carson for President” editorial from the Wall Street Journal. On Sunday, Carson paid a visit to This Week to react to the paper’s statement as well as the “overwhelming” response he’s received. “Before I gave that talk, I prayed and asked God to give me wisdom — what to say, what would resonate what would be important,” Carson said, asked about the response to his remarks. Adding that he didn’t feel it was “particularly political,”

In anticipation of Jesse Jackson Jr.´s indictment on Friday afternoon, Jonathan Allen and John Bresnahan at the Politico seemed all too willing to hand out sympathy cards to Jackson and his wife, both of whom stand to do time in prison for offenses relating to their raid of the congressman´s campaign funds. Specifically, the Politico pair wrote: "It’s a story of a Chicago power couple that lost track of the line between campaign cash and personal funds in a spiral of money troubles." Gosh, I didn´t know that line was so blurred. Excerpts from the write-up follow the

The recession has caused new retirees to be worse off financially than their parents when they finally leave the workforce. It is the first time since the Depression in the 1930s that America´s elderly have less to look forward to than earlier generations. The Washington Post reports that economists on either side of the aisle agree that the combination of a number of negative factors means that the downward shift means that retirees may have to rely on younger relatives in order to survive. ´This is the first time that Americans are going to be relatively worse off than their

Barack Obama has kept the press well away this President’s Day (Washington´s Birthday) weekend (hat tip: Drudge Report) as he golfs with Tiger Woods in Florida. As Politico’s Dylan Byers writes: [Snip] "Speaking on behalf of the White House Correspondents Association, I can say a broad cross section of our members from print, radio, online and TV have today expressed extreme frustration to me about having absolutely no access to the President of the United States this entire weekend," Henry said in a statement, relayed in a White House pool report. Secretary of State John Kerry says looming sequestration cuts that will reduce the State Department’s fiscal year 2013 budget by $2.6 billion could affect sensitive areas like diplomatic security and aid to Israel – but is silent on Pakistan, a country that alone accounts for $2.4 billion in the existing FY2013 request. In a letter last week to Senate Appropriations Committee chairwoman Sen. Barbara Milkuski (D-Md.), Kerry said the across-the-board cut of $2.6 billion “would seriously impair our ability to execute our vital missions of national security, diplomacy and development.” Some $850 million would have

I had not intended to write about the Eastleigh by-election this week, since it is still very hard to reach any judgment on which factors will influence electors there.[Snip] Perhaps the most interesting speculation revolves around the Labour candidate, John O´Farrell. It was not in any off-the-cuff, over-the-top, spur-of-the-moment that Mr O´Farrell expressed his support for the SinnFein/IRA terrorists who attempted to murder Margaret Thatcher in the Brighton bombing. He put his thoughts into a book. It was published. They are on the record. He wrote that he was disappointed that Mrs Thatcher survived. "Why did she have to leave

The commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said Sunday coalition forces will comply with President Hamid Karzai’s directive banning national forces from calling in coalition airstrikes, an order that has left some Afghans troubled. U.S. Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, just days into his new post, told reporters Karzai was exercising “sovereignty” and that there were ways for the coalition to support the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) other than the use of air ordnance. “We are prepared to provide support in line with the president’s intent,”

It started last June when Barclays was ordered to pay a $360m (£230m) fine over allegations its traders had manipulated Libor, one of the world’s most important interest rates. Since then, in an extraordinary eight-month period, a roster of top British companies has been fined an unprecedented $10.9bn by US authorities ranging from the Department of Justice (DoJ) to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Just days after Barclays was hit with its fine, drug maker GlaxoSmithKline agreed to hand over $3bn for mismarketing anti-depressants to children. Last August, Standard Chartered paid $340m to settle allegations it violated America’s

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey delivered the opening keynote address for the International Students for Liberty Conference this weekend. Mackey stressed that capitalism has the power to eradicate poverty in the next century, expressed concern over capitalism’s “branding problem”, and maintained that “self-interest” alone is an insufficient moral foundation for the system. The themes presented by Mackey closely followed the premises of his new book, Conscious Capitalism. Mackey’s analysis re-framed the issue of income inequality. Proponents of government control often point to wealth disparity as a social evil resulting from capitalism. However, Mackey noted that since capitalism’s development

In terms of a family car vacation, the ancient asteroid that flew by Earth Friday may have seemed far away -- 17,200 miles. In astronomical terms, however, Asteroid 2012 AD 14 was actually very close, much closer, for example, than the Moon´s 239,000 miles. And computer projections of that asteroid´s Earth-like orbit into the future currently forecast an upcoming earthly encounter of the explosive kind. More on that disastrous possibility in a minute.

Conservatives and Tea Partiers have claimed Rove´s super PAC was created to go to war against them in Republican primaries.

During a search of the Newtown home he shared with his mother, Nancy Lanza, who also died Dec. 10 at the hands of her son, authorities discovered what appeared to be dozens, if not hundreds, of graphically violent games, the Hartford Courant reported.

President Obama has said that he wants to help Democrats win back a majority in the House of Representatives. He says he looks forward to Nancy Pelosi being speaker again. If he does work hard to elect House Democrats, it will be a change from 2010 and 2012, when he didn’t do much at all for them. But let’s say he does. What are the chances of success? Certainly not zero. Democrats need to gain 17 seats to win a House majority of 218. That’s fewer than the number of seats that changed party in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

The leader of the 170-member Republican Study Committee (RSC), the majority of the majority in the House, blasted the legacy of President Barack Obama’s stimulus plan that he signed four years ago today. “Four years after President Obama signed his $821 billion taxpayer funded stimulus bill into law, American taxpayers are still paying the tab for the broken promises, and all we have to show for it are higher unemployment, higher debt, and higher taxes,” said Rep. Stephen J. Scalise (R-La.), who became the RSC chairman at the beginning of the 113th Congress.

No, I´m not talking about Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael (God rest Michael´s tortured soul). I´m talking about the Chicago Jacksons, Jesse Sr. and Jesse Jr. The Jackson 5 in their heyday gave plenty: music, entertainment, and joy to their fans. The Chicago Jacksons are another story. Jesse Sr. (The Right Reverend) and his son (the erstwhile congressman) have done a lot more taking than giving. "Taking" may be too charitable a word. Shaking down and wheedling may be better descriptors for the Chicago Jacksons´ acts.
