CHARLESTON, S.C.— Elizabeth Colbert Busch remembers watching the funeral of Robert Kennedy on television, with her younger brother Stephen — now the star of Comedy Central´s "The Colbert Report" — sitting in her lap. She said to herself, "Someday, if they let women run for office, I´m going to." Now, she´s making that dream a reality with a run for Congress. And she isn´t worried her brother´s fame will overshadow her campaign. "I´m not. I´m so proud of what he is and what he has accomplished," she said in an interview in her campaign office

Tunis - Tens of thousands of supporters of Tunisia´s Islamist-led government marched in the capital on Saturday, one of the biggest in a series of pro-government and opposition rallies sparked by the assassination of a secular politician. The February 6 killing of Chokri Belaid, a human rights lawyer and opposition leader, has thrown Tunisia into political turmoil two years after it staged the first of the "Arab Spring" revolts. Violent protests, in which one policeman was killed, swept Tunisia after the assassination, with crowds attacking Ennahda offices in Tunis and elsewhere.

Even though federal law largely bars illegal immigrants from obtaining Medicaid coverage, the program annually pays out more than $2 billion in free emergency coverage that mostly goes to illegal immigrants, according to Kaiser Health News. The vast majority of the total emergency care reimbursements cover delivering babies, Kaiser reports. Based on a Kaiser data analysis of the states believed to have the greatest populations of illegal immigrants — including California, New York, Texas, North Carolina, Arizona, Illinois and Florida — more than 100,000 people annually receive

The left wing propaganda machine is a wonder to behold, managing the theoretically impossible feat of propagandizing for Islam at a radical feminist rally. It happened in San Francisco, of course, where government, the media, political organizations -- everything relevant propaganda - is controlled by the left. Zombie, the sharp-eyed and quick-witted anonymous chronicler of the Bay Area left, has published a vastly entertaining and profoundly revealing photo-essay featuring Miss Qu'ran. February 14 used to be Valentine's Day, but this year Eve Ensler hijacked the date to mark the climax

Students at University of Missouri don´t need to cram for exams that fall on Wiccan and Pagan holidays, now that the school has put them on par with Christmas, Thanksgiving and Hanukah. The university’s latest “Guide to Religions: Major Holidays and Suggested Accommodations” — designed to help faculty know when and when not to schedule exams and other student activities — lists eight Wiccan and Pagan holidays and events right alongside more mainstream occasions. It´s all part of the school´s effort to include everyone´s beliefs, although some critics say listing every holiday associated with fringe

Kabul - Afghan security forces will be banned from calling for NATO air strikes in residential areas to help in their operations, President Hamid Karzai said on Saturday, three days after 10 civilians died in such a strike in the country´s east. (Snip) "Tomorrow, I will issue an decree stating that under no conditions can Afghan forces request foreign air strikes on Afghan homes or Afghan villages during operations," Karzai told more than 1,000 officers, commandos and students. No one is coming to take your guns

I have some very disappointing news for some of the more-virulent foes of sane gun-control legislation. If you’re what the National Rifle Association loves to call a “law-abiding American citizen,” no one is going to take away your guns. Not the federal government. Not the state government. Not the local government. Not the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard. Not the United Nations. Not the zombies. Well, OK, I can’t absolutely guarantee what zombies might do, but they move so slowly, you shouldn’t have much trouble keeping them from your firearms.

Two Russian nuclear-armed bombers circled the western Pacific island of Guam this week in the latest sign of Moscow’s growing strategic assertiveness toward the United States. The Russian Tu-95 Bear-H strategic bombers were equipped with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles and were followed by U.S. jets as they circumnavigated Guam on Feb. 12 local time—hours before President Barack Obama’s state of the union address. Air Force Capt. Kim Bender, a spokeswoman for the Pacific Air Force in Hawaii, confirmed the incident to the Washington Free Beacon and said

Hello, I’m Martha Roby. [Snip] As you may know, a series of deep, across-the-board military spending cuts known as ‘the sequester’ will go into effect in less than two weeks. In his State of the Union address, President Obama himself admitted that these cuts were a ´really bad idea.´ What the President failed to mention was that the sequester was his idea, proposed by his administration during the debt limit negotiations in 2011. And now we in the House are calling on the president to join us in replacing his sequester with better, more responsible spending cuts.

Six gun companies have announced plans to stop selling any of their products to any government agency in states that severely limit the rights of private gun ownership. Disappointed with New York State lawmakers and other jurisdictions around the country who have passed strict gun control legislation, the companies—composed of firearm manufacturers, gunsmiths, and sporting goods retailers—have announced these policies in the past week. Their various statements emphasize that such laws create a class of government employees with rights and and a class of citizens without rights

If you’re a donor or potential donor to Karl Rove’s group American Crossroads, I recommend you listen to Mark Levin’s recent interview with Donald Trump, because they disclosed some long overdue truths that needed to be said. Trump and Levin made several points that donors, the media, and the political class can no longer ignore and frankly should have picked up on long ago. When you see the facts all laid out, you’ll be asking yourself the same question as Levin: “I would say to the wealthy donors out there,

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush said he would strive to be like Lyndon Johnson, the Democrat famous for expanding the U.S. welfare state through the "Great Society," if he were elected president. According to the Miami Herald, Bush made those comments Wednesday night in San Antonio, Florida at Saint Leo University, while speaking about education, immigration, and energy policy. Bush did not address Johnson´s Great Society and War on Poverty programs, about which Ronald Reagan once famously quipped, "We had a war on poverty, and poverty won." An Army cadet who left West Point just months shy of his graduation to make a high-profile protest of religious proselytizing at the school now faces Pentagon demands that he repay the cost of his education — either through active-duty service or by paying as much as $250,000. The notification this week that he would be hit up for the fees blindsided Blake Page, 24, who says that top leadership at West Point assured him that "recoupment" of costs for his taxpayer-funded education would be waived when he left the school in December. As The Cable reported earlier this week, Kerry reached out to Lavrov after North Korea detonated a nuclear bomb on Feb. 11, as well as the foreign ministers of Japan, China, and South Korea. One winter day in 1961, in Newark Valley, New York, the young couple Tim and Waneta Hoyt experienced a horrible tragedy. Their first child, Eric, who was not yet three months old, suddenly died. The precise causes of infant mortality are sometimes mysterious, and doctors could find no obvious explanation for Eric’s death—he had simply stopped breathing. The following year, Waneta gave birth to another boy, James. But he, too, abruptly died. It was only after the couple lost a third infant, Julie, in 1968, that Tim and Waneta turned to Alfred Steinschneider, a medical researcher in Syracuse

Appearing in federal court, O’Connor also admitted to stealing $2.1 million from the charity foundation set up by her late husband, Jack in the Box founder Robert Peterson, to fund her video poker habit. The Justice Department agreed to defer prosecution as she attempts to repay the debt. Since 2001, IRS records suggest that her winnings totaled $1 billion— but her losses were even greater. Does President Obama think that he has the power to kill American citizens on U.S. soil? If he accuses a guy in the Arizona desert or rural Montana of being an Al Qaeda terrorist, is it ever kosher to send a drone over to blow him up, as was done to Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen killed in Yemen? Or is it never okay to drone strike an American citizen to death here in the United States? It´s an easy question. Answering it wouldn´t jeopardize national security in any way. So why do Obama Administration officials keep dodging it? Asked the question
