President Barack Obama’s top 2012 campaign strategist is attacking a fiery op-ed that was written by National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and published in The Daily Caller. “Hard to believe this is real,” David Plouffe said in an early-evening tweet on Wednesday. “Every GOPer should read and decide if this delusional person will call the shots.” In the op-ed, LaPierre used alarming images to rally gun-rights supporters against what he described as “the hellish world that the gun prohibitionists see as their utopia.” “Looters ran wild in south Brooklyn. There was no food, water or electricity.

Here are five reasons why Dr. Ben Carson, the famed Baltimore pediatric neurosurgeon and American patriot, should run for president. 1. He has a real job. Dr. Carson is no street volunteer or professor cloistered in an ivory tower. He has dedicated his life to medicine and has saved the lives of countless children plagued by unimaginable maladies. And as a practicing doctor, he understands the marketplace and how unchecked government interference can bring about catastrophic, if unintended, consequences. 2. He lives the American dream. Growing up in dire poverty in Detroit as the son of a

Outgoing Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue has some parting shots for Congress, the White House and advocates for seniors. They have all "really walked away from Social Security," he says, leaving the program "fraying because of inattention to its problems." Instead of making the hard choices to fix Social Security´s financial problems, policymakers "use it as a tool of political rhetoric," Astrue said. Astrue, 56, has headed the federal government´s largest program since 2006 -- he was nominated by former President George W. Bush. By law, Social Security commissioners serve six-year terms,

If you´re looking to get a "bang" out of your Facebook friends on Valentine´s Day, there is an app for that. Bang With Friends is a controversial app that, as the name implies, is supposed to be no-nonsense way to learn which of your friends is interested in having sex. The app´s logo and introductory screen shot leave no doubt about its intent. Since launching on Jan. 23, the app has "already hooked up over 100,000 couples," according to an e-mail from the three California college students who created the app.

President Barack Obama is expected to propose during his Thursday visit to metro Atlanta that the federal government expand the Head Start preschool program, which is designed to prepare children from low-income families for school. Obama also plans to back a new partnership with states to provide preschool for every 4-year-old from low- and middle-income families, according to details from the White House that emerged hours before his scheduled visit. The plan would be funded through with federal matching dollars for public preschool slots for families who earn at or below 200 percent of the poverty level.

The New York Times has a must-read up on how the GOP is losing the tech war — and losing the youth vote. But tucked away in the piece, I found this:[W]e can’t be afraid to call out Rush Limbaugh,” said Goodwin’s fiancée, S. E. Cupp, a New York Daily News columnist and a co-host of”The Cycle”on MSNBC. “If we can get three Republicans on three different networks saying, ‘What Rush Limbaugh said is crazy and stupid and dangerous,’ maybe that’ll give other Republicans cover” to denounce the talk-show host as well.

There is something entirely appropriate about holding the State of the Union address on the same day as Mardi Gras. One is a display of wretched excess, when giddy and rowdy participants give in to reckless and irresponsible behavior. The other is a street festival in New Orleans. There is, thankfully, less nudity in the House chamber for the president’s annual address, and (slightly) less inebriation. But what occurs beneath the Capitol Dome is as debauched as anything on Bourbon Street. The State of the Union ritual is by now familiar to most Americans.

One of the big moments of the State of the Union address was President Obama’s call for “high-quality preschool” for 4-year-olds. Nobody was happier at the idea than Walter Mondale, the former vice president. “This is going to be wonderful,” he said in a phone conversation. His delight was sort of inspiring. If I had been down the road Mondale has traveled, my mood would have been a little darker. In 1971, when he was a senator, Mondale led the Congressional drive to make quality preschool education available to every family in the United States that wanted it.

“Zero Dark Thirsty,” “Swing and a Miss,” “Parch Madness,” “Tough Swallow,” “Just Add Water,” and “Water Under the Bridge” were a handful of the phrases used on-air by MSNBC on Wednesday to mock Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio for awkwardly pausing to take a sip of water while delivering the official Republican response to the State of the Union address. Throughout the broadcast day, between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. EST, MSNBC showed a replay of Rubio’s swig approximately 155 times — 101 of which came during “The Rachel Maddow Show ,” which played the moment on loop

After four years of Barack Obama´s diplomatic ´leadership´ and billions of dollars in attempted friendship aid, a new public opinion poll reveals that 92% of Pakistanis now disapprove of the United States. [Snip] Only four Pakistanis out of 100 approve of the United States, President Obama and his policies. They, however, seem to keep kind of quiet about their views in that rowdy land. That´s the lowest favorable rating Pakistan´s citizens have ever given their ostensible North American ally.

“First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes the baby in the baby carriage,” goes the rhyme. Unfortunately, in large swaths of American society, this rhyme is playing in reverse, with dire consequences for lower-income Americans. Given five decades of deteriorating marriage trends, it appears Americans concur with H.L. Mencken, who joked, “Marriage is a wonderful institution, but who´d want to live in an institution?” Since 1960, the percentage of married Americans plunged from 72 percent to 51 percent last year, a record low. Meanwhile, babies born to unwed mothers skyrocketed from 4 percent in 1960 to 41 percent in

Squalid, smelly and steamy, the crippled cruise ship Carnival Triumph limped toward port on Thursday, its passengers and crew looking forward to an end to their hellish vacation. The laborious slog through the Gulf of Mexico tested not only the senses of the thousands on board, but their patience as well. Towed by three tugboats, the ship is on track to arrive at terminal in Mobile, Alabama, around 4 p.m. ET Thursday. It´s been a nightmare five days for the 3,143 passengers and 1,086 crew members on board the 900-foot, 14-story Triumph where a fire broke out

A peer-reviewed survey of 1077 geoscientists and engineers finds that "only 36 percent of geoscientists and engineers believe that humans are creating a global warming crisis," according to James Taylor, writing at Forbes.com. As he points out, if there is a scientific consensus at all, it would have to be skepticism toward anthropogenic global warming. Yet President Obama in his State of the Union speech Tuesday cited the now-discredited notion of such a consensus as the foundation of his green agenda. It is bunk. Headline split by staff

The protesters had attached themselves with zip-ties to the gates of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in an act of civil disobedience meant to draw attention to the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline. The group were demanding that President Obama reject the

In a hearing last week, Republican members of the Senate Intelligence Committee were happy with their ability last week to suggest that President Obama’s lack of inquiry during the Benghazi attack last September 11 showed how removed he was from an urgent political /military issue. While focusing pro and con on the supposed inability of Mr. Obama to have serious concern over his beleaguered representatives in Libya, the senators, Democrat and Republican alike, missed completely a principal issue in the Secretary of Defense’s testimony. Leon Panetta had tried to explain that time and distance precluded the possibility

On Feb 8th, Obama issued yet another waiver for Palestinian Authority aid, claiming that sending money to the corrupt undemocratic terrorist kleptocracy that refuses to negotiate a peaceful solution
