Obama Plans Post-SOTU

In its ever-evolving quest to turn the presidency into a permanent campaign organ rather than the executive branch of government, the Obama White House will be launching yet another in its endless series of public relations pushes in the aftermath of Obama’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday evening. The White House will be showing graphics and data – or at least their version of data – during the State of the Union on the White House website. Meanwhile, the “unrelated” campaign organ of the White House, Organizing for Action (which still carries the Obama

Steven Emerson’s Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) told Breitbart News Monday that it has uncovered additional speeches given by former Sen. Chuck Hagel, who is awaiting confirmation as Secretary of Defense. The speeches suggest that Hagel may have misled the Senate Armed Services Committee twice during his confirmation hearing on Jan. 31: first, when he suggested that the controversy over his views was about "one individual" quote, vote, or statement rather than his consistent and strongly-held opinions over time; and second, when Hagel told the committee:

Judicial Watch, the independent government watchdog organization that has held Republicans and Democrats to account, announced on Monday its list of investigative priorities for 2013. Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview that the organization will focus on issues such as Benghazi, illegal immigration, President Barack Obama´s use of executive orders and actions, gun control, green energy boondoggles, election fraud, and national security leaks over the next year. Fitton said he did not expect Obama to "admit to any wrongdoing" in Tuesday´s

President Barack Obama--whose administration is being sued by multiple Roman Catholic dioceses and organizations for violating their free exercise of religion--issued a statement today about retiring Pope Benedict XVI, boasting of his "work together" with the pontiff. “On behalf of Americans everywhere, Michelle and I wish to extend our appreciation and prayers to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. Michelle and I warmly remember our meeting with the Holy Father in 2009, and I have appreciated our work together over these last four years,” Obama said. “The Church plays a critical role in the

A larger detail of security agents escorted Secretary of State John Kerry on a trip to Arlington, Va., last week, when he went to visit—of all places—the headquarters of the department’s security bureau, than the State Department posted to its compound in Benghazi, Libya, in the days leading up to the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attacks. Kerry, as recorded by an official State Department publicity photograph, was "surrounded" in Arlington on Monday, Feb. 4, by at least four of the department’s Diplomatic Security (DS) agents. In the days leading up to the Benghazi attacks, the State Department

This trend could multiply among Republicans who have White House fatigue. There are enough of them out there. A cheerful Florida official has organized a public "watch party" for Sen. Marco Rubio´s official Republican response to President Obama´s State of the Union address, to be delivered Tuesday night following the president´s speech. It´s Mr. Rubio the audience is pining to see, particularly that unprecedented moment when he delivers the GOP rebuttal in English and Spanish. Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz attempted a bit of deception Monday in an effort to criticize GOP rising star Marco Rubio ahead of his State of the Union rebuttal Tuesday night. But on this occasion, the press wasn´t falling for it. In a conference call Monday, Wasserman Schultz enlisted the help of Annette Capella, described by party officials as a "Medicare recipient from Florida," to warn of the "extreme budget priorities," they believe Rubio is likely to outline in his televised response to President Obama´s address. Capella gave a lengthy and unflattering

On Monday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer predicted that tomorrow night’s State of the Union address will be the political counterpart to President Barack Obama’s fundamentally “ideological” inaugural speech. “Well, I’m not sure it will be a speech about ideas or programs,” Krauthammer said. “In fact, if the inaugural address was this sort of extraordinarily ideological address, I think the State of the Union is going to be extremely aggressive and partisan. Obama is still campaigning. He hasn’t stopped.

The White House has heard enough about Benghazi. White House press secretary Jay Carney on Monday blasted Senate Republicans for threatening to block Defense Secretary-nominee Chuck Hagel and John Brennan, nominated to head the CIA, in a quest for more information about what President Obama did on the night that terrorists killed four Americans in the U.S. Consulate in Libya. “We have answered these questions,” Mr. Carney said. “The president found out about the attack in Benghazi in a meeting with his secretary of defense and chairman of the Joint Chiefs from his national

ARLINGTON, Texas— Slain ex-Navy SEAL Chris Kyle was a devoted husband, father and friend who will never be forgotten, his widow told mourners at his memorial service Monday. Taya Kyle said she was broken but that the family will “put one foot in front of the other” to get through their grief. She told her two children that they will remember Chris Kyle’s silly side, Texas twang and prayers they prayed together. “Chris, there isn’t enough time to tell you everything you mean to me and everything you taught me,” she said through tears. Asked how the president initially reacted to the speech, Dr. Carson told host Neil Cavuto that Obama “came over to me and said he appreciated my speech and he admired me and took my hand and didn’t squeeze too hard.” “What do you mean? One of those fishy hand shakes?” Cavuto inquired. “It was a good handshake,” Carson replied. Cavuto asked

An Army veteran who was today awarded the Medal of Honor for his courageous leadership during a daylong firefight in Afghanistan wept as President Obama named his fallen comrades. Former Staff Sgt. Clinton Romesha took a moment to compose himself after Obama read the names of the eight Americans who died in the 2009 firefight. At a White House ceremony attended by the military´s top leaders and former Medal of Honor recipients, Obama recounted the dramatic battle at an outpost in the mountains near the Pakistan border where U.S. troops were far outnumbered.

RUSH: A most amazing thing, to me, anyway. This may not be that big a deal to you, but to me it is. I found this on Newsbusters. I didn´t actually see this. Chris Matthews has a syndicated show that runs on Sundays throughout the country. This is not his nightly MSNBC tingle-up-the-leg show. And on his show yesterday was Washington Post columnist David Ignatius who literally begged Obama, implored Obama not to destroy Marco Rubio in the upcoming immigration debate. I think this is a tantamount admission to what´s going on.

IN EIGHT years as pope, Benedict XVI’s boldest act may have been his last one. (Snip) Pope Benedict’s response to the greatest challenge he faced — the explosion of sexual-abuse scandals in Catholic dioceses around the world — was inadequate. During his visit to the United States in 2008, he met with victims of predatory priests; he later apologized for the crimes and oversaw modest Vatican measures to extend the statute of limitation for cases and prevent further abuse. But the pope never acted against bishops who covered up crimes, and he never admitted or apologized for his own failures

Accumulated gun violence in America produces "a Sandy Hook-plus" of deaths every day, Vice President Biden said Monday following a meeting with regional law enforcement and elected officials in Philadelphia. He was referring to the 26 children and teachers killed in the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Monday´s breaking news about a fatal shooting at a courthouse in Wilmington in Biden´s home state of Delaware only underscored "the urgency" of the need for "common sense" restrictions on gun sales, he said. What goes around comes around, as the New York Times reported yesterday: Four years into [President Obama´s] tenure, the onetime critic of President George W. Bush finds himself cast as a present-day Mr. Bush, justifying the muscular application of force in the defense of the nation while detractors complain that he has sacrificed the country´s core values in the name of security. It seems that last week, as Times media columnist David Carr puts it, "the debate over drone strikes broke out into plain view during the confirmation hearings for John O. The Senate Armed Services Committee will vote Tuesday on Chuck Hagel’s nomination for secretary of defense, committee chairman Carl Levin (D., Mich.) announced today. Reports suggest Levin has grown tired of requests for details about the various groups Hagel spoken for and received compensation from, as well as GOP threats to filibuster the nomination until more information is disclosed about the September 11 attacks in Benghazi and the administration’s response. One Republican aide said Levin’s decision to rush through a committee vote was an effort to “snuff the momentum” building in opposition to the Hagel’s nomination.

Less than one month into his second term, President Barack Obama looks to complete the outlines of an ambitious agenda in his State of the Union address Tuesday night. In his inaugural speech, the president telegraphed several initiatives he wants Congress to pursue and pass this year: gun control legislation, a bill to create a legalization process for many of the nation’s illegal immigrants, subsidies for renewable energy technologies and legislation to respond to climate change. Obama will likely return to those topics Tuesday night, but the White House has signaled that this speech will focus
