´It´s like a bunch of savages´:
Thousands of passengers stranded
on a disabled Carnival cruise ship
fighting over food and toilets

The more than 3,000 passengers on the stricken cruise ship stuck off coast of Mexico have turned into ´savages´ and are fighting over food, relatives have claimed. Those on board have no power and have been forced to sleep on deck in tents as there is no air conditioning in the sweltering cabins. The toilets are also not working meaning that passengers have had to make do with bags or buckets. Brent Nutt, whose wife Bethany is on board, claimed that brawling had started because some passengers have got so hungry and food is so scarce.

Among those expected to attend today’s service is former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who posted the following to her Facebook page this morning: Todd and I are in Dallas today to attend Chris Kyle’s memorial and funeral service. I find it sad to see that flags aren’t flying at half staff for this American hero. We’re surrounded today by American patriots here in Texas – by Chris’ fellow veterans and active duty warriors. In honor of them, I hope our commander in chief pays his respects in some gesture of condolence for their comrade in arms

Campbell denies any wrongdoing. Campbell claims photographs showing her husband’s car (with her campaign bumper sticker) running several red-lights were digitally altered.

Researchers at Granada University in Spain have found that beer can help the body rehydrate better after a workout than water or Gatorade. Professor Manuel Garzon also claimed the carbonation in beer helps to quench the thirst and that its carbohydrate content can help replace lost calories, The Telegraph reports. The study involved a group of students who were asked to work out until their body temperature reached 104 degrees. Researchers then gave beer to half of the students and water to the other half.

A controversial Democratic donor now under federal investigation has affiliations with numerous Latino groups that have allowed him access to high-level Obama Administration officials. United States Spain Council (USCC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, lists SFM Holdings, of which Melgen is the president and general partner, as an organizational member of the council. Melgen’s connection to USSC links him to his long-time friend Sen. Bob Menendez (D., N.J.). Menendez is the honorary chairman of the council. Both Menendez and Melgen are under investigation. Menendez is facing a Senate ethics probe for his relationship with

Senate Democrats will press ahead with President Obama´s nomination of Chuck Hagel to be the next defense secretary, despite protestations from several Republicans that they don´t yet have enough information to make a decision. Sen. Carl Levin, Michigan Democrat and Armed Services Committee chairman, said Monday morning that he will schedule a committee vote for Tuesday afternoon — the precursor to holding a floor vote in the full Senate. Mr. Hagel, himself a former Republican senator, has drawn stern opposition from Senate Republicans who argue that he took dangerous stances in the past on Iran and Israel

The State Department has said that it never believed the September 11th attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was the result of a protest over an anti-Islam movie - directly contracting the rest of the Obama administration. By trying to distance her department from the inept and deceptive handling of the Benghazi attack, which left U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American officials dead, Hillary Clinton could help herself politically for a 2016 presidential run. A dramatic new account by the State Department reveals that Stevens was locked inside a ´safe room´ choking to death from diesel-heavy smoke

Allegations of shady campaign contributors and procurement of prostitutes are usually the ingredients of a political scandal that send the media into a feeding frenzy – unless, of course, the figure involved is a Democrat. When news broke that the FBI opened an inquiry into New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez’s jaunts (that may have included solicitation of prostitutes) to the Dominican Republic with a longtime campaign contributor, the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) networks responded with barely a murmur.

International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that 19 children, who were to be sold to fundamentalist Islamic boarding schools (madrassas), have been rescued. Traffickers lied to the children’s parents, saying they would take the children to Christian boarding schools in Dhaka, when in fact, they were intending to sell the children to various madrassas. Students from Dhaka University discovered the children and rescued them. This is not the first instance of Christian children being trafficked to madrassas, as upwards of 150 children have been rescued from similar situations since July 2012.

The letter is signed by former senators Norm Coleman and Joe Lieberman, former defense secretary Bob Gates, Bill Kristol, and many others. "Sequestration will result in unacceptable risk for U.S. national security. It will degrade our ability to defend our allies, deter aggression, and promote and protect American economic interests. It will erode the credibility of our treaty commitments abroad. It will be a self-inflicted wound to American strength and leadership in the world," reads the letter.

For a Los Angeles Police Department disciplinary panel, the evidence was persuasive: Rookie officer Christopher Jordan Dorner lied when he accused his training officer of kicking a mentally ill man during an arrest. But when a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge examined the case a year later in 2010 as part of an appeal filed by Dorner, he seemed less convinced. Judge David P. Yaffe said he was "uncertain whether the training officer kicked the suspect or not" but nevertheless upheld

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 took away the John Birch Society´s prime issue -- communism -- but the organization is hoping to rebuild itself using Ron Paul supporters and opposition to a one-world government as a base. Anna Morkeski, the conservative organization´s state field director, said Maine´s status as a staunch Paul state, at least among Republicans -- initially, most of the Maine delegation to the party´s national convention last August backed Paul -- makes it a natural for the organization.

A previously apolitical organic farmer in Virginia has set off a property rights revolution that would make Founders Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and author of Virginia´s Declaration of Rights George Mason proud. Martha Boneta had a business license for her tiny farm store in scenic Paris, Virginia, yet she was threatened with fines of up to $5,000 per violation per day for selling organic tea and wool products crafted from her rescued animals, and for hosting a birthday party for eight 10-year-old girls. Karl Rove´s bizarre denial after Fox News projected Ohio for President Barack Obama was the only election-night performance worse than American Crossroads´. His super PAC distributed more than $175 million to 30 candidates, of whom 21 lost, despite ample opportunities to take down vulnerable Democrats, like Claire McCaskill, or win open seats, like Dick Lugar´s in Indiana. You´d think that such a miserable showing in last year´s election would dissuade donors from giving more money to Rove, but instead Rove is launching a new money machine, the Conservative Victory Project

Braves backtrack, won’t use

The Atlanta Braves have decided to silence the "screaming savage" this season. Apparently reversing course after people complained loudly enough, the Braves won´t be using a culturally insensitive caricature of a Native American on their batting practice caps. Congratulations to them for doing something that should have been obvious. Instead, the familiar letter "A" in neoclassic Atlanta Braves script appears on the cap, as in the photo above. The letter "A" never offended anyone, unless you were the lead character in a Nathaniel Hawthorne novel. Only a cynic would call the Braves´ decision a victory for political correctness

Today’s democrats are often called “socialists” by their opposition, and though that is probably true, what today’s progressive liberals truly are is something worse. These people are statists, which are people who believe that only the ruling elite understand how a society should be run, and that it is up to them to engineer that society so that eventually it becomes a peaceful utopia equipped with equality, fairness, and a share-and-share alike attitude. Heaven on Earth, I suppose you could say. Samuel Adams called the concept “utopianism.” Karl Marx called it communism.
