Texas Gov. Rick Perry was scheduled to be in California the start of this week. The Associated Press reported the governor planned to meet with executives in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Orange County. Gov. Perry´s office said he would meet with leaders in the high-tech, biotech, financial, insurance and entertainment industries. The visit follows a modest radio ad campaign launched last week – which then spawned nationwide media attention – aimed at promoting the Lone Star State´s lower taxes and friendlier business climate. snip

The State Department has said that it never believed the September 11th attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was the result of a protest over an anti-Islam movie - directly contracting the rest of the Obama administration. By trying to distance her department from the inept and deceptive handling of the Benghazi attack, which left U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American officials dead, Hillary Clinton could help herself politically for a 2016 presidential run. A dramatic new account by the State Department reveals that Stevens was locked inside a ´safe room´ choking to death from diesel-heavy smoke

Allegations of shady campaign contributors and procurement of prostitutes are usually the ingredients of a political scandal that send the media into a feeding frenzy – unless, of course, the figure involved is a Democrat. When news broke that the FBI opened an inquiry into New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez’s jaunts (that may have included solicitation of prostitutes) to the Dominican Republic with a longtime campaign contributor, the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) networks responded with barely a murmur.

International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that 19 children, who were to be sold to fundamentalist Islamic boarding schools (madrassas), have been rescued. Traffickers lied to the children’s parents, saying they would take the children to Christian boarding schools in Dhaka, when in fact, they were intending to sell the children to various madrassas. Students from Dhaka University discovered the children and rescued them. This is not the first instance of Christian children being trafficked to madrassas, as upwards of 150 children have been rescued from similar situations since July 2012.

As NewsBusters reported, CBS News political director John Dickerson a few days before Barack Obama´s second inaugural advised the President to destroy the Republican Party. On the syndicated Chris Matthews Show Sunday, Washington Post columnist David Ignatius went in a completely different direction imploring Obama to "get out of the zero sum game Washington where to do something good on immigration reform he´s got to destroy Marco Rubio" (video follows with transcript and commentary): CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Marco Rubio has been designated as the Republican respondent, right, which is pretty smart I guess because he´s the hot hand. In a letter to congressional leaders organized by the Foreign Policy Initiative, national security leaders says, "stop sequestration now." The letter is signed by former senators Norm Coleman and Joe Lieberman, former defense secretary Bob Gates, Bill Kristol, and many others. "Sequestration will result in unacceptable risk for U.S. national security. It will degrade our ability to defend our allies, deter aggression, and promote and protect American economic interests. It will erode the credibility of our treaty commitments abroad. It will be a self-inflicted wound to American strength and leadership in the world," reads the letter.

For a Los Angeles Police Department disciplinary panel, the evidence was persuasive: Rookie officer Christopher Jordan Dorner lied when he accused his training officer of kicking a mentally ill man during an arrest. But when a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge examined the case a year later in 2010 as part of an appeal filed by Dorner, he seemed less convinced. Judge David P. Yaffe said he was "uncertain whether the training officer kicked the suspect or not" but nevertheless upheld

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 took away the John Birch Society´s prime issue -- communism -- but the organization is hoping to rebuild itself using Ron Paul supporters and opposition to a one-world government as a base. Anna Morkeski, the conservative organization´s state field director, said Maine´s status as a staunch Paul state, at least among Republicans -- initially, most of the Maine delegation to the party´s national convention last August backed Paul -- makes it a natural for the organization. A previously apolitical organic farmer in Virginia has set off a property rights revolution that would make Founders Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and author of Virginia´s Declaration of Rights George Mason proud. Martha Boneta had a business license for her tiny farm store in scenic Paris, Virginia, yet she was threatened with fines of up to $5,000 per violation per day for selling organic tea and wool products crafted from her rescued animals, and for hosting a birthday party for eight 10-year-old girls. A suspected gunman and two women were killed after shots were fired inside a courthouse in Delaware, police say. Karl Rove´s bizarre denial after Fox News projected Ohio for President Barack Obama was the only election-night performance worse than American Crossroads´. His super PAC distributed more than $175 million to 30 candidates, of whom 21 lost, despite ample opportunities to take down vulnerable Democrats, like Claire McCaskill, or win open seats, like Dick Lugar´s in Indiana. You´d think that such a miserable showing in last year´s election would dissuade donors from giving more money to Rove, but instead Rove is launching a new money machine, the Conservative Victory Project

The Atlanta Braves have decided to silence the "screaming savage" this season. Apparently reversing course after people complained loudly enough, the Braves won´t be using a culturally insensitive caricature of a Native American on their batting practice caps. Congratulations to them for doing something that should have been obvious. Instead, the familiar letter "A" in neoclassic Atlanta Braves script appears on the cap, as in the photo above. The letter "A" never offended anyone, unless you were the lead character in a Nathaniel Hawthorne novel. Only a cynic would call the Braves´ decision a victory for political correctness

Today’s democrats are often called “socialists” by their opposition, and though that is probably true, what today’s progressive liberals truly are is something worse. These people are statists, which are people who believe that only the ruling elite understand how a society should be run, and that it is up to them to engineer that society so that eventually it becomes a peaceful utopia equipped with equality, fairness, and a share-and-share alike attitude. Heaven on Earth, I suppose you could say. Samuel Adams called the concept “utopianism.” Karl Marx called it communism.

The saga of the Dominician port security deal that has embroiled Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and his friend and major donor Dr. Salomon Melgen began in December 2000 when retired Major General Javier Juan Rene Beauchamp, Commander of the Dominican Armed Forces from 1975 to 1978 and "one of the strong men of the government of 12 years of Joaquín Balaguer," was assassinated at his home in the Dominican Republic just months after Hipolito Mejia was elected as the country´s new president. In 1973, then Brigadier General Beauchamp was part of an elite military squad that

The bipartisan comity of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which has served the country well for several decades, is in danger as Democrats vow to push through Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel on party lines. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who earlier opposed a filibuster against Hagel, said on the weekend that he was leaning towards a "no" vote, while Ranking Member James Inhofe (R-OK) said filibuster remained an option. Separately, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said he would "block" Hagel and CIA Director nominee John Brennan until the Obama administration provided full details of

For the past 22 years, the Labrador Retriever has been the most popular dog breed in the U.S., tying the Poodle´s record reign atop American Kennel Club registrations. "They´re the greatest dogs in the world," said David Frei, the Westminster Kennel Club´s communications director. "Who doesn´t love a Labrador Retriever?" The answer is judges at the Westminster Dog Show. In 136 years of the event, no Labrador has ever won Best in Show. The Labrador hasn´t even made it out of the Sporting group to sniff at Westminster´s grand prize. In other words, Labradors are the Chicago Cubs

As President Obama´s staff puts the finishing touches on his fifth State of the Union address for tomorrow night, Americans have given the Democrat a poor rating on his ongoing handling -- or non-handling -- of the nation´s budget deficit. For some strange reason, perhaps tied to his record four straight years of trillion-dollar-plus spending deficits, Obama gets a poor rating from nearly half of the nation´s likely voters. The new Rasmussen Reports survey finds that 44% of likely voters rate Obama poorly at handling the ballooning deficit, which has pushed the national debt past the historic $16 trillion figure.

The man who shot and killed Osama bin Laden sat in a wicker chair in my backyard, wondering how he was going to feed his wife and kids or pay for their medical care.It was a mild spring day, April 2012, and our small group, including a few of his friends and family, was shielded from the sun by the patchwork shadows of maple trees. But the Shooter was sweating as he talked about his uncertain future, his plans to leave the Navy and SEAL Team 6.
