Catholic adoption agencies have been forced to close their doors in Illinois, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C., because their religious beliefs about marriage were deemed unacceptable by their jurisdictions. A graduate student in Michigan was expelled from a counseling program because her religious beliefs about marriage were deemed unacceptable by school officials. Christian pharmacists in Illinois were told to find other professions because their religious beliefs regarding when life begins were deemed unacceptable by the state. Private business owners are facing enormous fines because their beliefs about when life begins have been deemed unacceptable by the federal government.
Staring at a another debt ceiling crisis, the president´s punishing the one credit rating agency that dared downgrade U.S. debt in the last crisis. And Wall Street analysts say the timing´s no coincidence. Just weeks away from the next debt-limit showdown, the Justice Department filed a whopping $5 billion lawsuit against Standard & Poor´s for alleged fraud. The case appears weak, but the message it sends S&P and the other independent rating agencies is clear: Don´t downgrade anymore. "It´s a foregone conclusion that no more downgrades will be coming," said Euro Pacific Capital CEO
Sen. Rand Paul will deliver what´s being billed as the official tea party response to President Obama´s State of the Union address on Tuesday, the Tea Party Express announced Friday afternoon — putting yet another top 2016 GOP presidential contender head-to-head with Mr. Obama. Republican Party officials picked Sen. Marco Rubio, Florida Republican and another potential 2016 presidential hopeful, to give the official Republican response, so elevating Mr. Paul, Kentucky Republican, to the tea party response will show several contrasts. "We are happy to see that the Republicans have
Second Amendment: Alleged killer Christopher Dorner has provided the country with a vital lesson as the gun-control debate rages: The government´s officially sanctioned gun owners can slaughter innocents too. The fired Los Angeles Police officer and ex-U.S. Navy reservist terrorizing Southern California, allegedly killing three and wounding three, is no Adam Lanza of the unspeakable Newtown infamy, no Jared Lee Loughner, who allegedly murdered a judge and maimed a congresswoman in Arizona, no James Eagan Holmes, whom officials say murdered 12 and injured another 58 moviegoers in
It seems Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx just can´t avoid saying something really stupid at awards ceremonies. After calling Barack Obama "Our Lord and Savior" at last November´s Soul Train Awards, Foxx, during his acceptance speech as Entertainer of the Year at last Friday´s NAACP Image Awards, said, "Black people are the most talented people in the world" (video follows with transcript and commentary): JAMIE FOXX: All I can say is I’m so humbled tonight. I was thinking about all the stuff that I was going to say personally about myself, and I was gonna be all
Senate majority leader Harry Reid helped set the precedent for looking into foreign backers when, in 2002, he demanded that Henry Kissinger reveal the source of his funders before serving on the 9/11 Commission. Kissinger refused to release his own documents, and therefore did not serve on the commission. It´s relevant now because Chuck Hagel, who has been nominated as secretary of defense, is not fully disclosing his own foreign financial dealings. This, despite the fact that more than half the Republicans in the Senate sent a letter asking him to do so before they could
Security: The deaths of four Americans in Libya may be old news, but the president who failed to protect them remains in office. A Senate hearing has shown just how bad the negligence was. It´s an uphill battle keeping the public focused on any story more than a few days old. But Republican senators did their best Thursday to draw attention to the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. The story continues to reveal much about Barack Obama´s leadership and priorities.
We’re a day late to it but here it is, by popular demand, for your evening enjoyment. The Blaze says the response they’ve gotten to the vid is among the most enthusiastic for any clip in the history of the site. The Wall Street Journal, upon viewing it, declared “Ben Carson for president.” He’ll be on Hannity’s show tonight to elaborate on the themes, but if you’re unfamiliar with the man, you can get a taste of his many accomplishments here. I wonder why a guy who can light up an audience like this hasn’t considered political office.
What you see below is a copy of a May 26, 2005 letter from Senators Christopher Dodd and Joe Biden encouraging a no vote on cloture for the nomination of John Bolton. Senate Democrats (including Senators Obama, Biden, Clinton, and Kerry) twice voted en bloc against cloture on the Bolton nomination, preventing his confirmation as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. They did so because they were denied certain information they deemed necessary to judge Bolton´s fitness for the position, and therefore acted "to protect the Senate´s constitutional power to advise and consent to nominations."
When Osama bin Laden was killed, President Obama and his top officials huddled before a video screen in the White House, releasing a photo depicting how deeply involved the commander-in-chief was. When video from a drone showed terrorists attacking the American legation in Bengahzi, Mr. Obama discussed the matter in the Oval Office with Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and General Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, for 20 minutes. They then returned to the Pentagon. Mr. Obama never talked to them again, not while Ambassador Stevens was missing, not when
NEW DELHI: If ever India gets its hands on LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, the government will be able to watch his capture or killing live much the same way as US president Barrack Obama watched the take down of Osama Bin Laden by US Navy Seals sitting in his office. On a modernization spree post-26/11 attacks, the NSG has embarked on a project to create a super commando, what it calls the "future black cat". The project itself is inspired by the US Navy Seals´ Abbottabad operation to kill Osama Bin Laden.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will bring a child from Newtown, Conn. and her mother to the State of the Union, she told reporters Friday.* The names of the guests were not immediately available. At the same news conference, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said he’s bringing Carol Price, “who lost her son to gun violence many years ago, and her son’?s death actually stimulated the Maryland gun legislation many years ago to require trigger locks be sold with guns so you wouldn’?t have these awful tragedies.”
The Five kicked off their Fox News show today with a look at Dr. Benjamin Carson, the pediatric neurosurgeon who spent 25 minutes at Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast outlining his opposition to President Obama‘s policies… while President Obama was sitting next to him. After playing some highlights from Carson’s scathing speech, including his alternative to Obamacare, host Kimberly Guilfoyle played a clip of Rush Limbaugh‘s praising the doctor: “This is the kind of thing the Republican party should have been saying for the past four years.”
A Senate retirement is one of those wild cards in politics that can give the opposition party a shot at picking up a seat. Typically, incumbents enter the campaign season with name recognition, seniority, and a strong fundraising advantage. So an open seat can help level the field. But before retirements are even factored in, the 2014 campaign cycle represents an unusually strong chance for Republicans to gain Senate seats: Democrats currently hold 20 of the seats that will be up for election; Republicans, only 13. In 2016, the odds swing back to favor Democrats
At the stroke of midnight tonight, the world’s biggest party will begin, as more than 1.3?billion people across China pour on to the streets and light fireworks to usher in the Year of the Snake. During the following fortnight they will visit temple fairs, watch dragon dances and make dumplings shaped like silver ingots. They will each, on average, spend a month’s salary on pyrotechnics. This year’s celebrations will have a serpentine theme. Performances of the Peking opera Madame White Snake will run on repeat, red paper snakes will be pasted on doors, and shops will stock up on traditional
Could an actor playing the White Rabbit be racist? Disneyland is being sued by Jason and Annelia Black, who say their African-American children were treated differently than white kids who approached the “Alice in Wonderland” character for hugs and pictures at the Anaheim, Calif., amusement park. According to Fox5SanDiego.com, 6-year-old Jason Black Jr. approached his favorite character at the park, but was rebuffed. Jason told the station, “I went to hug him, but he turned his back. It’s made me feel sad because I wanted to really hug him.” Older brother Elijah reportedly then tried to hold the rabbit’s hand
WASHINGTON — Today, Speaker John Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., released the following column discussing the impact the president’s sequester will have on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base: “In 2011, President Obama proposed a series of mandatory spending cuts called a ‘sequester,’ which was subsequently passed by Congress as part of the 2011 debt limit agreement. “These arbitrary spending cuts, which are scheduled to go into effect March 1, will affect our region if they are implemented. The president’s sequester – or the #Obamaquester, as we call it on Twitter – should be replaced with other, more responsible spending cuts
The illegal hack of Bush family email accounts had an unanticipated consequence, the Smoking Gun reports: The hacker also intercepted photos that George W. Bush e-mailed two months ago to his sister showing paintings that he was working on, including self-portraits of him showering and in a bathtub. Another image shows the former president painting at the family’s Maine retreat (his subject is St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, a historic seaside chapel down the road from the sprawling Kennebunkport compound).
RUSH: I must warn those of you in Big Bear Lake, California, there´s a nut on the loose. He´s on the prowl. He´s shooting people. This former cop, this Dorner guy, he´s running around, and he loves left-wingers and so forth. I think the safest thing for those of you to do in the area where he is thought to be is turn in your guns now. They tell us that will stop him. That´s right, because nothing strikes fear into killers like people that don´t have any guns. Headline repaired.
Breitbart News has learned that one of the witnesses at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on immigration next week will be outspoken illegal immigrant Jose Antonio Vargas--who will be seated at the same table as Chris Crane, leader of the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement employees’ union that is suing the government over Obama administration rules that make it very difficult for ICE agents to arrest illegal immigrants. Vargas, who works as a journalist, arrived in the U.S. from the Philippines at the age of 12, but is not eligible for the administration’s new guidelines because of his age.
In what has become a recurring theme for the Spanish language network Univision, one of their employees took to social media recently to smear Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). According to the Miami Herald, a top assistant to a Univision news boss criticized Rubio being chosen as the Republican response to the State of the Union. The employee at the center of the controversy is one Angelica Artiles who took to Facebook to post the following vicious attack: Oh, wow, the loser is going to speak after our President. Anything to get publicity.
RUSH: Here´s Maxine Waters. This was last Sunday on TV One´s Washington Watch with Roland Martin. Maxine Waters, Democrat from California. Her district is basically the Watts area of Los Angeles, and Roland Martin said, "The reality is like anything else, you´d better get what you can while Obama´s there because, look, come 2016, that´s it." Now, what Roland Martin´s saying here is all of you who are looking for prosperity from the government, you better get it and get it now
RUSH: There´s very little reporting on the Benghazi hearings yesterday. That was Panetta. We had the audio sound bites of Leon Panetta. Was he defense or CIA at the time? (interruption) Was he defense then or CIA? (interruption) Okay. He said Obama told him at 5:15, while the attacks in Benghazi were just underway (impression), "Do whatever you gotta do to save American life," and that´s the last they heard of him. He was unreachable. Where did he go? It came out in the hearings that Obama never called back to check on Benghazi.
Remember when liberal journalists and politicians tried to incite a moral panic by blaming a series of violent crimes on the Tea Party, Rush Limbaugh, Fox News and assorted other bugbears? If you don´t, Michelle Malkin has a refresher: The 2009 massacre of three Pittsburgh police officers (which lib journos falsely blamed on Fox News, Glenn Beck, and the "heated, apocalyptic rhetoric of the anti-Obama forces"); the 2009 suicide insurance scam/murder hoax of Kentucky census worker Bill Sparkman (which New York magazine falsely blamed on Rush Limbaugh,
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Friday told residents still without heat from October´s superstorm Sandy to seek shelter elsewhere as a massive snowstorm threatens to dump 8 to 12 inches on the city´s boroughs. The city is under a blizzard warning until 1 p.m. Saturday, and the National Weather Service warned winds could gust up to 60 miles per hour as a potentially record-setting storm blasts through on its way to New England. "If your house has been damaged by Sandy and still without heat, call 311 and we´ll be certain to find you shelter," Bloomberg said
