A Facebook error on Thursday caused major disruption to some of the top visited news websites. Internet users, who were logged into their Facebook accounts, were unable to connect to popular web destinations including CNN, Huffington Post, Washington Post and Gawker. When users tried to visit those websites, the landing page would appear for just a moment before they were re-directed to a Facebook page with an error message. The error was first noticed around 4pm on Thursday and lasted until about 4:40pm, with people relying on Twitter to report the interruption. Though their desired web destination would load

On Wednesday the Senate canceled a vote on the confirmation of former Sen. Chuck Hagel to become the next Secretary of Defense. Today, Ben Shapiro reports on a possible reason for that delay. On Thursday, Senate sources told Breitbart News exclusively that they have been informed that one of the reasons that President Barack Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, has not turned over requested documents on his sources of foreign funding is that one of the names listed is a group purportedly called “Friends of Hamas.” Breitbart called the White House

If you are a Syrian military officer in charge of some nasty chemical weapons, you’ve probably been friended or Skyped by the U.S. government. The message is simple: think twice before using or selling that mustard gas you are guarding. On July 18, when a suicide bomber struck a meeting of Syria’s security cabinet, killing the defense minister and President Bashar al-Assad’s brother-in-law, it was a major victory for Syria’s opposition. But it was also a cause for serious alarm at the Pentagon. In public, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta warned what was left of the regime’s leadership

WASHINGTON – Several years ago I was sitting at a hotel bar in Waco, Texas, with Ron Hutcheson, then the White House correspondent for the old Knight-Ridder News Service, simultaneously watching the Daytona 500 and competing in a video trivia game. Naturally the discussion turned to the job of covering the president of the United States, George W. Bush, who was at that moment busily clearing brush out at his ranch in nearby Crawford, Texas, leaving reporters with little to do but watch race cars circle a track, answer dumb questions and drink beer.

After former Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle was killed Saturday at a Texas shooting range, former congressman Ron Paul tweeted a shockingly cold sentiment. “Chris Kyle’s death seems to confirm that ‘he who lives by the sword dies by the sword,’?” wrote Paul, who as a presidential candidate opposed military action. The message quickly drew a dissenting view from Capitol Hill, where one senator issued a statement calling Kyle “a hero like all Americans who don the uniform to defend our country. Our prayers are with his family during this tragic time.” That senator was Paul’s son, Rand Paul.

According to Politico, “a political colonoscopy is going on before our eyes.” Yuck. Karl Rove has set up a Super PAC to keep controversial conservatives from winning Republican primaries and the Senate leadership has established a “buddy system” to keep Tea Party congressmen in line (“buddy” as in “you should probably vote the way we tell you to, buddy…”). But the most important changes are taking place at Fox where heavyweights Sarah Palin and Dick Morris are out as contributors. A lot of this is post-election house clearing (CNN has moved staff around, too) but it also suggests is blaming

Go digging with dinosaur hunters and they will show you that the last of the Cretaceous beasts died out suddenly, 66 million years ago. For 30 years the prevailing theory has been that T. rex and its brethren were wiped out by a comet or asteroid crashing in Central America, kicking up so much dust and ash that the Earth cooled for years afterward and made survival impossible. Or was it really that simple? Some scientists, digging into well-preserved layers of the earth, said the timing was off. Yes, there is a 110-mile-wide crater, called Chicxulub,

WASHINGTON -- CIA Director-designate John Brennan´s vigorous defense of drone strikes to kill terror suspects - even American citizens - overseas is causing key lawmakers to consider lifting secrecy from what has become an important weapon in the fight against al-Qaida. Brennan, President Barack Obama´s top counterterror adviser, was grilled for more than three hours Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee on the drone program he leads, as well as on the CIA´s harsh interrogation techniques during the Bush administration, which he denounced, and on leaks of classified information to the media, which Brennan vehemently denied being a part of.

Proposals tabled early on Friday morning for Brussels budgets for the period 2014 to 2020 would slash the EU´s spending by £30 billion between 2014 and 2020 compared to current levels of spending. The historic cuts package tabled by Herman Van Rompuy, the EU president, after a bitter battle between the Prime Minister and François Hollande, the French President, could save the British taxpayer up to £500 million a year. A "negotiating box" was tabled at 6.30am on Friday morning and the first ever deal that reduces EU expenditure was close to agreement after Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor

Tehran. Iran´s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, rejected any idea of bilateral talks with the United States on Thursday in a speech in which he scoffed at Iranian officials who might consider such negotiations. (Snip)The ayatollah´s objection is an edict to which other Iranian officials, including President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, must adhere, and it comes after several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Mr Ahmadinejad and Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, had said the Obama administration had been taking positive steps toward Iran.

President Obama, speaking to House Democrats at a party retreat in Lansdowne, Va., on Thursday, told lawmakers that if they stick to their principles, “I expect Nancy Pelosi will be speaker again.” The president said immigration, gun control and the economy are his top priorities for the year, and he offered some oddly-worded praise for Mrs. Pelosi, the House minority leader. Mr. Obama opened his remarks by saying how much he loves Mrs. Pelosi and then immediately pivoted to talking about how she “generates” good-looking grandchildren.

President Barack Obama, speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Thursday said he often searches scripture “to figure out” how to be a better man and president. “Sometimes I search scripture to determine how best to balance life as a president and as a husband and as a father. I often search for scripture to figure out how I can be a better man as well as a better president,” Obama said. The president said he often searches “for the words to console the inconsolable.” “And most of all I know that all Americans,

Gun-control advocate and CNN host Piers Morgan found himself in an uncomfortable situation Thursday after hearing rogue cop Chris Dorner, who allegedly killed a police officer and two others, was a big fan of his. “The LA cop-killer murder spree has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with deranged criminality. I hope they catch him asap,” Mr. Morgan tweeted a little over an hour ago. A bizarre manifesto by Mr. Dorner was first published by KTLA-TV, where he praised President Obama and his gun control efforts, along with media that touted those efforts, such as Mr. Morgan.

WE NOW know that President Obama’s national security team overwhelmingly supported providing arms to the rebels in Syria. On Thursday, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told a Senate committee that he and Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, backed a plan that would have vetted, trained and armed selected opposition groups, which have been pleading for such U.S. support for more than a year. According to the New York Times, the strategy was developed by former CIA director David H. Petraeus and supported by former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Matthew Boyle is standing by his story. On Nov. 1, Boyle published a piece on the Daily Caller site titled “Women: Sen. Bob Menendez paid us for sex in the Dominican Republic [VIDEO]“. To sort of nail down the story, Boyle conducted an Internet-video interview with two Dominican women who attested to having been (under)paid to have sex with Menendez and to having been treated both affectionately and indifferently by him. The Daily Caller story introduced some terms now referenced frequently in hard-nosed coverage on the Democratic New Jersey senator. The romps

Mr. Panetta said he and Mr. Obama, along with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, discussed the attack for 15 minutes in the Oval Office the afternoon of Sept. 11,

For the first time since Election Day, President Obama is on the defensive. That’s because on March 1, automatic spending cuts (“sequestration”) go into effect — $1.2?trillion over 10 years, half from domestic (discretionary) programs, half from defense. The idea had been proposed and promoted by the White House during the July 2011 debt-ceiling negotiations. The political calculation was that such draconian defense cuts would drive the GOP to offer concessions. It backfired. The Republicans have offered no concessions. Obama’s bluff is being called and he’s the desperate party. He abhors the domestic cuts.

Nothing. That is what President Barack Obama did on the night of September 11, 2012, as terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and killed four Americans, among them Ambassador Christopher Stevens. President Obama’s inaction was revealed in testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday by outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey. Under direct questioning by Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Panetta admitted that he had no communication with President Obama after their “pre-scheduled”

Around 400 marines from the United States and South Korea braved bitterly cold weather for a joint training exercise to test their limits in extreme conditions. Soldiers from the south-east Asian country joined forces with their counterparts from Kaneho Bay, Hawaii, at a ski resort in Pyeongchang, east of Seoul. They walked through icy water, did push-ups and threw snow on their bodies as they learned how to adapt to hostile climates. The exercises, which run from February 4 to February 22, also involve firearms training, military skiing, ice diving and alpine climbing as well as night

We’ve heard a lot of rhetoric in the last couple of months after the Newtown tragedy to the effect that the National Rifle Association was responsible for the murder of the children killed in that atrocity and other mass shootings. Whatever one might think of the NRA’s stand in opposition to any change in the gun laws, this sort of over-the-top attempt to delegitimize advocates of a point of view did nothing to help us understand that or similar crimes. But there has been at least one instance in which a national advocacy organization did directly incite

Traditional Southern diets may be linked to a higher risk of stroke, a researcher said at a conference on Thursday. The lead researcher, Suzanne Judd, a nutritional epidemiologist at the University of Alabama, said her study is the first large-scale effort to look at stroke and a diet of such foods as fried chicken and fish, bacon, ham and sweet teas. “Fatty foods are high in cholesterol, sugary drinks are linked to diabetes and salty foods lead to high blood pressure,” Judd said in a statement. Those are all factors in the risk of cardiovascular disease.

A Washington couple were left stunned after their server handed them the bill for their family´s dinner - and they saw they had been given a $4 discount for their ´Well Behaved Kids´. Laura King and her husband took their three children, aged two, three and eight, to an Italian restaurant in Poulsbo to enjoy an early-evening meal last Friday. As they tucked into their feast of pizza, pasta and mushroom ragu, the family discussed planets, racecars, zebra jokes, and commented on the warm decor of the restaurant, Mrs King said. ´They were just being their normal selves,´
