Islamofascism: Islamists have launched a hostile takeover of American language through an increasingly aggressive and organized censorship campaign that threatens free speech. Over the past few weeks, there have been an alarming number of cases of Muslim pressure groups trying to force Americans to conform to a pro-Islamic speech code. They´ve insisted on censoring any speech or expression that offends them, including TV ads, Christian symbols, speeches and even parts of speech. In some cases, the targets of their wrath have caved in to their demands.
Unlike the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, which faces no existential threat, our Asian ally faces an increasingly belligerent and well-armed China. Yet only one gets the latest weaponry and the question is why. On Jan. 30, a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer in the East China Sea near the disputed Senkaku Islands just north of Taiwan was "painted" by fire control-radar from two People´s Liberation Army warships, believed to be the Chinese frigates Linyungang and Wenzhou. This was just the latest provocation by a China flexing its deep water naval muscle as it asserts
Authorities in Big Bear have spotted fresh tracks believed to be those of a fugitive ex-Los Angeles police officer wanted in connection with a series of shootings and are combing the area for him, a Fire Department official told The Times. Big Bear Lake Fire Department Asst. Chief Mark Mills also said the burning pickup discovered on a forest road has been linked to Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, sought in connection with a series of shootings that have left three people dead and two wounded.
Thursday’s Senate hearing to confirm President Barack Obama´s choice to lead the CIA bared some of the deepest wounds of the more than decadelong war on terrorism and illustrated — at times dramatically — how keenly America continues to feel them. John Brennan faced rigorous questioning from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle over the most contentious issues in American national security,(Snip)Lawmakers also pounced on the role Brennan may have played in the release of secrets to the press, the “trust deficit” between the CIA and Congress, and the cloak of secrecy the Obama administration and its predecessor
LOS ANGELES - Police believe that the ex-cop being sought after he allegedly killed three people posted a "manifesto" to Facebook threatening "unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in LAPD uniform." (Snip)According to documents from a court of appeals hearing in October 2011, Dorner was fired after he made a complaint against his field training officer, Sgt. Teresa Evans. Dorner said that in the course of an arrest, Evans kicked suspect Christopher Gettler, a schizophrenic with severe dementia. Richard Gettler, the schizophrenic man´s father, gave testimony that supported Dorner´s claim.
I am pleased that the conversation on immigration reform started in earnest last week after a bipartisan group of senators unveiled a set of principles that will guide the debate moving forward. Despite Senator Marco Rubio’s interviews with Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin, a number of my colleagues in the conservative movement remain skeptical. That is understandable given Congress’s history. In 1986, President Ronald Reagan championed amnesty for over one million unauthorized immigrants in exchange for significant reform — which would have included a thoughtful process moving forward that would restrain, if not completely stop,
By any objective measure, Sen. Marco Rubio had a big week. It was announced he would give the Republican response to the State of the Union. He was the guest at the first-ever “BuzzFeed Brews.” National Journal explained why he’s “Not Your Grandfather’s Republican.” And, oh yeah, he’s on the cover of TIME magazine. This is all impressive. But it’s also presents a challenge. Republicans need and want a leader who is capable of occasionally garnering favorable press. On the other hand, you can expect some conservatives to be suspicious of a Republican who gets too much positive coverage
RUSH: I also got an e-mail. I´ve had a couple like this. Actually, more than a couple. This one is the most succinct. This guy lives in Boston. Dear Rush: Why aren´t the Republicans screaming from the rooftops every day about Obama´s middle class tax increases? Rush, my take-home pay has dropped $300 a month due to tax increases, inflation hitting everywhere, especially in my utilities, heating bills going through the roof, food. Everybody I know is getting hit. Everybody I know is getting hit the same way.
A Southwest Side alderman’s plan to prevent a return of rampant drunken misbehavior at the South Side Irish Parade moved a step closer to approval Thursday. Ald. Matthew O´Shea´s proposal would stiffen penalties for violations near a parade route. The annual Irish-themed parade was canceled for two years following a series of fights and arrests in the neighborhood around the parade route on South Western Avenue. The parade returned last year as an event organizers termed more “family friendly,” and O´Shea hopes to keep it that way. Under O´Shea´s plan, maximum fines for having open liquor on the street and public
RUSH: As for Obama, he went to the National Prayer Breakfast today. I was reading a blog, the White House Dossier, a guy who used to be part of the White House press corps. Keith Koffler is his name. I didn´t see Obama at the prayer breakfast today, but he said Obama was barely awake. You know, Obama doesn´t show until ten o´clock in the morning. He´s a nighthawk. He´s a night owl. Obama stays up late and he doesn´t get up early.
If you can´t force people to do what you want, force them to buy insurance: That seems to be the strategy of the liberal left in the Obama era. We refer not only to the ObamaCare health-insurance mandate but to the latest bright idea under consideration in mostly Democrat-dominated state capitals. "Democratic lawmakers proposed legislation Tuesday that would require California gun owners to buy liability insurance to cover damages or injuries caused by their weapons," FoxNews.com reports. The idea isn´t brand new:
RUSH: I mentioned that the Senate Armed Services Committee hearings on the Benghazi consulate attack took place today. Up first, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Martin Dempsey testified, and he threw Mrs. Clinton under the bus here. McCain said, "Why didn´t you put forces in place to be ready to respond when all broke loose over there?" DEMPSEY: Because we never received a request to do so, number one, and number two -- MCCAIN: You never heard of -- of the Ambassador Stevens´ repeated warnings about the lack of security?

A former Los Angeles police officer who wrote an online manifesto threatening to harm police officials and their families is wanted for allegedly killing the daughter of a former LAPD captain as well as the woman´s fiance. (Snip)In the online postings, Dorner specifically named the father of Monica Quan, the Cal State Fullerton assistant basketball coach who was found dead Sunday along with her fiance, Keith Lawrence. Randy Quan, a retired L.A. police captain, was involved in the review process that ultimately led to Dorner´s dismissal.
Colombia announced that it produced an average of 1.01 million barrels of oil per day in January, marking the first time that average crude output for a month surpassed the one million-barrel mark that the government had set as a target for the country´s oil industry. Last month´s figure was more than 7% higher than the 944,000 barrels a day produced in January 2012, the Mines and Energy Ministry said in a statement. For all of 2012, average oil output stood at 940,000 barrels of oil per day, which represents a 3.16% increase from 2011.
MEXICO CITY — Mexican authorities say a 9-year-old girl has given birth in western Mexico and they are looking for the purported father, a 17-year-old. Jalisco state police spokesman Lino Gonzalez says the baby girl was born last week at a hospital in the city of Guadalajara. He says the girl and her baby are doing well. Gonzalez said Wednesday that the girl´s family alerted authorities after she gave birth and the alleged father has not been seen since in the neighborhood the both live in. He says that if the teenager´s paternity is proven he could face child
John O. Brennan couldn’t even finish introducing his family before he was interrupted four times by protesters at his confirmation hearing Thursday to become the new director of the CIA. Intelligence committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein halted the hearing and pulled Mr. Brennan from the room until it could be cleared of protesters, who she said were affiliated with Code Pink, the anti-war group. Mr. Brennan, who is President Obama’s homeland security adviser, is one of the chief architects of U.S. policy in the war on terror, and senators said they are eager to question him about the
With about 1,300 Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey still living in hotel rooms, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to pay for their hotel stays another two weeks, according to Gov. Chris Christie’s office. The federal agency is extending its Transitional Sheltering Assistance program in New Jersey through Feb. 22, giving the displaced victims a new check-out date of Feb. 23. “We will continue to request extensions until all families in the program have a safe housing solution,” Christie said in a news release this morning. The program, which was slated to expire Saturday,
While Barack Obama is busy shredding the Constitution, Washington, D.C. insider Karl Rove is busy trying to destroy what is left of the Republican Party by launching a multi-million dollar Super PAC to usurp representative democracy, disenfranchise American voters, and concentrate even more power in Washington DC. Rove and the professional “consultant class” think that only Washington D.C. insiders like them – not the American people – should get to decide who runs for public office. That’s why he is launching the “Conservative Victory Project” – a Super PAC whose mandate is
Washington - A judge has ruled that hearings in the 2001 Chandra Levy murder case will continue to be closed to the public and the news media. The hearings have been held behind closed doors over the last several weeks and could signal a problem with the prosecution. Ingmar Guandique, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, was convicted of Levy´s murder in 2010 and is serving a 60-year prison sentence. Levy was a Washington intern whose murder went unsolved for years and captivated the public because of her romantic relationship with a California congressman.
Two weeks ago, Senator Rand Paul asked then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if Benghazi served as a gateway for the United States to run weapons to Syrian rebels through Turkey. Today during testimony on Capitol Hill, outgoing CIA director Leon Panetta admitted there was a plan, supported by Clinton and former CIA Director David Petreaus, put in place to arm Syrian rebels but was stopped by President Obama. Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Mr. Panetta and Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, were asked by Senator John McCain,
Washington - Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta told Congress on Thursday that the Pentagon had supported a plan to arm Syrian rebels that was developed last year by David H. Petraeus, the C.I.A. director at the time, and backed by Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was then serving as Secretary of State. (Snip) The New York Times reported in its Sunday editions that as the fighting in Syria raged last summer, Mr. Petraeus developed the plan, which Mrs. Clinton supported and that called for vetting rebels and training fighters who would be supplied with weapons. His proposal offered
Jesse Jr. will not go to jail for trying to buy Obama´s senate seat. Apparently, that´s a dead issue now that Jackson is out of Congress and the Ethics Committee has dropped the matter. But Jackson will apparently be spending some time in the slammer for using his campaign fund as a personal piggy bank. Chicago Sun Times: Sneed has learned a plea deal is now on the table between former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and federal authorities probing allegations of campaign fund misuse. Sneed is told the plea deal includes Jackson serving time in federal prison.
The American Cancer Society advises all women over 40 to get a mammogram once a year to screen for signs of breast cancer. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, a panel of experts that advises the federal government on health matters, says most women need to get mammograms only once every two years, and only when they’re between the ages of 50 and 74. Who’s right? A new study comes down on the side of the task force. (Snip) It turned out that having annual mammograms did not reduce women’s risk of being diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer,
While giving Senate testimony regarding Benghazi on Feb. 7, Sec. of Defense Leon Panetta said Obama was not present nor did he communicate with the Sec. of Defense during the Benghazi attack. Panetta was answering questions from Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) when he made it clear he had no communication with Obama outside the normal, "pre-scheduled" 5 p.m. meeting on September 11. When asked if Obama at least called to check in as the attack unfolded Panetta said "No." When asked if anyone from the White House called that night, Panetta said "No." According to Panetta, the President trusted that
Dubai - Iran´s highest authority, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Thursday slapped down an offer of direct talks made by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden last week, saying they would not solve the problem between them. "Some naive people like the idea of negotiating with America, however, negotiations will not solve the problem," Khamenei said in a speech to officials and members of Iran´s air force carried on his official website. "If some people want American rule to be established again in Iran, the nation will rise up to face them," he said. "American policy in the Middle East has been destroyed
