Sneed has learned a plea deal is now on the table between former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and federal authorities probing allegations of campaign fund misuse. Sneed is told the plea deal includes Jackson serving time in federal prison. “Significant jail time is now definitely a part of the deal,” said a top Sneed source close to the probe. “But I think [Jackson’s wife] Sandi, feels like she was thrown under the bus by her husband, ” now that a separate probe has begun on her, a second source added.
Singer Tony Bennett brought up Nazi Germany at a press conference in Washington where he demanded gun control. TONY BENNETT: It´s the kind of turn that happened to the great country of Germany, when Nazis came over and created tragic things, and they had to be told off. And if we continue this kind of violence and accept it in our country, the rest of the world´s going to really take care of us, in a very bad way.
As he continues to fill out his cabinet, a report emerged late Wednesday that President Obama is "close to choosing" Chicago billionaire Penny Pritzker as America´s next Secretary of Commerce. There´s only one problem. She and her secretive family have been caught up in some pretty dodgy commercial ventures including but not limited to dodging taxes and running a bank that specialized in subprime mortgages. Scandal potential aside, Penny Pritzker makes good sense as Obama´s pick for Commerce Secretary. She´s engaged in commerce, first of all — like, a lot of it. Having been born into the family that
Last week Kirsten Powers, one of the more visible Democratic contributors to Fox News, wrote a lengthy piece for that organization’s website called “Obama vs. Fox News –behind the White House strategy to delegitimize a news organization.” In it she rather shockingly set herself apart from her more radical cohorts on the left by demonstrating a willingness to denounce them for their demonization of Fox and their assault on freedom of the press. She may be one of the last pundits on the left to adhere, at least in this instance, to classical liberal values.
CAMBRIDGE – When Harvard University computer scientist LaTanya Sweeney Googled her name she was surprised at what she found. A Google ad questioning whether she had an arrest record. “I almost fell out of my chair! I’ve never been arrested, what’s going on here?“ She’s a law-abiding citizen, but the Google ad from a firm called Instant Checkmate suggested she had a criminal record. “If they sell it don’t they know who they have arrest records for?” She dug deeper with over 2,100 names, most coming from a study on birth records which
Richard III is staging a comeback. A skeleton identified as the last Plantagenet king of England was recently discovered underneath a city parking lot in Leicester. Richard III fans feel as though this is the start of a totally new career chapter. “Now we can rebury him with honor,” said Philippa Langley, a leading figure in the Richard III Society, which is dedicated to the rehabilitation of the 15th-century monarch, who’s lived on in history as the villain in a Shakespeare play. Doing a round of TV interviews,
President Barack Obama has presided over the worst multi-year recovery in American history since the end of World War II, according to data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). During his tenure, the economy has grown only 7.5 percent, compared with double-digit growth in other post-recession periods. Using inflation-adjusted GDP figures from BEA and business cycle dates from the National Bureau of Economic Research (the organization used by the government to date when recessions and recoveries begin and end), CNSNews.com calculated how much the economy grew for each post-recession period since 1949, the earliest
Retired Army Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin--formerly commander of U.S. Special Forces Command and deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence—told CNSNews.com that, if it had been asked, the Defense Department could have sent a plane to Libya on Sept. 11, 2012, to transport a rescue team of U.S. security personnel that instead ended up taking a chartered private plane from Tripoli to Benghazi that night. “There is no question that we could have moved an airplane in there and we could have also put boots on the ground at the embassy,” Gen. Boykin told CNSNews.com.
So, let´s get this straight: Two years ago President Obama ordered the assassination-by-drone of an American citizen overseas. The fellow was successfully vaporized. And according to Wednesday afternoon´s headlines, Obama just now "agrees" to share with Congress the memos he relied on for his legal justification to kill that American. And by extension, others that Obama or his successors might deem expendable for "national security" reasons. This from the arugula-loving Democrat who professed such profound moral outrage over the non-lethal (Republican) terrorist interrogation process called waterboarding.
Amid Chicago Mayor Emanuel´s recent push to get Bank of America, other banks, and various mutual funds to divest from gun companies, Breitbart News thought the timing was right to sit down with Joe Sirochman of American Spirit Arms (ASA). We talked to him about the way Bank of America treated his company shortly after the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary took place. ASA is a Scottsdale AZ-based manufacturer of custom AR-15 rifles and pistols. And as Sirochman will tell you the first time you meet him, "ASA is an American company making guns for Americans."
‘We’ve got to get rid of the immigration issue altogether,” said Sean Hannity in the aftermath of the election. “It’s simple for me to fix it . . . it’s got to be resolved . . . first secure the border, pathway to citizenship, done, you know whatever little penalties you want to put in there, if you want, but then it’s done.” (Snip)The real problem is that many Hispanics feel that Republicans don’t respect them. That feeling of disrespect — amplified by the liberal press —emerges from many things that Republicans say, and rhetoric on immigration
HOUSTON – A Texas prison escapee on the run for almost 16 years has been captured by authorities in Mexico and awaits extradition to the U.S. to finish serving his sentence on charges of attempted capital murder of a police officer, state Department of Criminal Justice officials said Wednesday. Juan Salaz was apprehended last week. The 37-year-old American citizen had been sought for years by authorities on both sides of the border. Salaz escaped the night of March 22, 1997, from the Garza East prison in Beeville in South Texas by climbing over three 16-foot fences all topped with razor wire.
Yow. Talk about a political disaster. The other day I closed a piece on Karl Rove by saying that in launching what he called the “Conservative Victory Project” Mr. Rove had made a big mistake. A really big mistake. The group, described here in the New York Times as “intended to counter other organizations that have helped defeat establishment Republican candidates over the last two election cycles,” has had a horrific reception among conservatives Now? Yesterday the big mistake became bigger. Much bigger. A thunderstorm became Katrina. Yesterday, American Crossroads
Beyoncé´s energetic Super Bowl performance came with its own fan-filled audience, a contribution from her rapper husband Jay-Z and a costume wild enough to enrage animal rights protestors. One thing the singer didn´t plan for, however, was "unflattering" photos. It appears not even divas are immune from an awkward snap, and when American website Buzzfeed decided to publish 33 of the less photogenic photos of Beyoncé´s performance, news site Gawker found out that her publicist called for them to be taken down. The publicist sent an email to Buzzfeed "respectfully asking" that they remove some of the "unflattering" photos, specifying
Call it Chuck Hagel Part II. John Brennan, President Obama´s pick to head the CIA, faces a frustrated Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, where he will be grilled on the Obama administration´s increased use of drones and the harsh interrogations that took place during the Bush era. Brennan was a top aide to former CIA director George Tenet during the time just after the 9/11 attacks when harsh interrogation techniques, such as waterboarding, were being used. He has since said he opposed the program. The White House has signaled confidence that Brennan’s nomination will get Senate approval,
Exercising a power that no prior president ever thought he possessed -- a power that no prior president is known to have exercised -- President Obama admitted that he ordered the execution of American citizens, not on a battlefield, based on his belief that they were involved in terrorist activities. It is known that at least three U.S. citizens, including a 16-year old boy, were killed on the president´s order in drone strikes in Yemen in 2011. As the worldwide drone program ramps up, there have been increasing calls for the president to
A Spanish warship has been confronted by the Royal Navy near Gibraltar amid growing tensions around the UK outpost. The armed patrol vessel, which typically carries special forces and marines, was spotted cruising irregularly and warned repeatedly to leave British waters. Last night, the Foreign Office lodged a diplomatic protest with Madrid over the most serious episode of sabre-rattling off the Rock in half a century. There are fears that the Spanish government is seeking to ramp up tensions to deflect attention away from domestic problems threatening to engulf Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. Prominent Gibraltar barrister Charles Gomez said: There
While I can´t recall the exact reason my sister hit me on the head with a high heel many years ago I´ll never forget her saying, "you´re so cold-hearted." Apparently she felt I was not that sympathetic to a situation she had read about in the newspaper. I was reminded about this long ago incident listening to the recent testimonies in Congress on the gun control issues. The Democrats always wage their battles by triggering emotional reactions while the Republicans tend to value the facts - which explains why I am a Republican and why she is a diehard Democrat.
Iran´s supreme leader has dismissed a US offer of one-to-one talks on Tehran´s nuclear programme. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech posted online that the US was proposing talks while "pointing a gun at Iran". On Saturday, US Vice-President Joe Biden suggested direct talks, separate to the wider international discussions due to take place later this month. But the US widened sanctions on Iran on Wednesday, aiming to tighten a squeeze on Tehran´s ability to spend oil cash. Iran, which is subject to an array of international sanctions, has long argued that its nuclear programme is for energy generation
Two Russian fighter jets have violated Japanese airspace, prompting Tokyo to scramble its own aircraft, reports say. Japan lodged a protest after the planes were detected off the northern island of Hokkaido for just over a minute. The incident happened after Japanese PM Shinzo Abe said he was seeking a solution to a territorial dispute with Russia over a Pacific island chain. Russia´s military denied the incursion, saying the jets were making routine flights near the disputed islands. Mr Abe was speaking on the anniversary of an 1855 treaty which Japan says supports its claims to the islands.
The former U.S ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton had some rare praise for President Obama, and specifically for his expansive drone war. Via Mediaite: “It seems to me that the approach that the Obama administration is following is consistent with and really derived from the Bush administration approach to the War on Terror,” Bolton told [Fox News] host Jenna Lee. “And I think it is entirely sensible. Whether it is foreign citizens who are involved with Al Qaeda or American citizens, we are in a war. They have attacked us. We have a congressional authorization
Like a million teenagers with school the next day I was in bed at 11pm on Sunday May 15, 1966, but I wasn’t sleeping. Instead I was listening covertly beneath the bed covers to Radio Luxembourg and in particular to Barry Alldis presenting the New Musical Express Top Twenty. Then “Luxembourg” was the only radio station that played continuous 24-hour pop singles and that night between advertisements for Sunsilk shampoo and Fry’s Turkish Delight, Alldis spun a debut single that had been recorded in front of Mick Jagger and had entered the charts at number 14--it was called Wild Thing
Can you believe it? Even the (ahem) news outlets the Washington Post and the New York Times are questioning the veracity of Barack Obama´s claim that he skeet-shoots "all the time." Happily, the propagandists´ hard-hitting, integrity-filled attempts to shift the political presentation of the gun debate have unwittingly opened the door to very serious scrutiny of a great deal of Mr. Obama´s assertions pertaining to his own biography. This is because the exact same standards the propagandists themselves have decided to use as justification for questioning Obama´s claim
The Food and Drug Administration is warning U.S. doctors about another counterfeit version of the cancer drug Avastin, the third case involving the best-selling Roche drug in the past year. The FDA said in an online post Tuesday that at least one batch of the drug distributed by a New York company does not contain the active ingredient in real Avastin, which is used to treat cancers of the colon, lung, kidney and brain.[Snip] The vials are packaged as Altuzan, the Turkish version of Avastin that is not approved for use in the U.S. The agency warned doctors in April
Aside from a few, brave, truth-tellers, all of the discussion in Washington boils down to one theme — Why More Power and Money Should Be Transferred from You to Me. Of course, the sophists never say that directly. They always say it is for the children, or the poor, or the middle class, or the elderly, or the sick. But watch what they do, not what they say. In the end, every Washington Establishment initiative, proposal, or campaign is always aimed at the same result — power and money taken from you, to be given to them.
