The dismal jobs situation in America is even worse for young adults, who are suffering an unemployment rate 30 percent higher than the national average of 7.8 announced by Washington Friday. According to Generation Opportunity, which charts unemployment for Millennials aged 18-29, the rate is 11.5 percent and a shocking 22.1 percent for younger black Americans. [Snip] The declining labor force participation rate has created an additional 1.7 million young adults that are not counted as "unemployed" by the U.S. Department of Labor because they are not in the labor force,

CHICAGO– Starting this week, Chicago police are changing their responses to 911 calls. They’ll no longer come right away to reports of things like criminal damage to property, vehicle thefts, garage burglaries, or other crimes in which the suspect is no longer on the scene, and the victim isn’t in immediate danger. The move will free up the equivalent of 44 police officers a day for patrol duties. CBS 2´s Jim Williams spoke to some Chicagoans who think it’s the wrong move for the police. On the block where burglars broke into a home on Christmas Day,

Conservative radio host Mark Levin went after former George W. Bush advisor, Karl Rove, during his radio show on Monday after Rove announced the formation of a new PAC that would aid moderate Republican politicians against tea party challengers in primary races. Levin called Rove’s effort ‘diabolical’ and listed the many GOP officeholders who would not be in power but for the tea party insurgency. (Snip) “We’re being stabbed in the back,” Levin declared. “Here’s a project funded by crony capitalists, funded by corporatists — who are not conservative — funding a group called the Conservative Victory Project,”

WASHINGTON — With studies suggesting that long lines at the polls cost Democrats hundreds of thousands of votes in November, party leaders are beginning a push to make voting and voter registration easier, setting up a likely new conflict with Republicans over a deeply polarizing issue. White House officials have told Congressional leaders that the president plans to press for action on Capitol Hill, and Democrats say they expect him to highlight the issue in his State of the Union address next week. Democrats in the House and Senate have already introduced bills that would require states

They are called "homegrown terrorists," citizens of Western countries highly prized by Islamist militant groups because they can move across borders and carry out attacks easier than people from Middle East and South Asian countries closely identified with terrorism. Two such people - one Canadian and one Australian - are believed to have been involved in the July bus bombing in Bulgaria that killed five Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian driver, according to Bulgarian investigators. Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said the two were members of the Lebanese Shiite Muslim militant group Hezbollah, which is in turn

It’s not exactly firing on Fort Sumter, but it may be said that the Republican Civil War has begun in earnest as the “establishment,” or “pragmatists,” or “realists” — or whatever derisive epithet you want to apply — have thrown down the gauntlet to the righteous right and challenged their conception of political success. The notion that only the most “conservative” candidate should represent the party regardless of his or her chances of winning is under attack by GOP Whales who ultimately foot the bill for these forays into self-defeating, myopic fantasy land.

Writer Jon Favreau may just be a perfect fit for Hollywood. Favreau, President Barack Obama´s youthful speech writer, was once photographed groping a cardboard cutout of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. And Favreau served four years with Obama, helping the president pen speeches brimming with straw men, false promises and divisive rhetoric. That kind of creative background may give Favreau, not to be confused with the actor/director of the same name, a leg up in Tinsel Town. Favreau´s indifferent attitude toward powerful woman won´t seem out of place in the entertainment industry, which has a horrible track record promoting women

When the “official” photo of the president shooting skeet was released to the press yesterday, attached to it were these very specific instructions: “This photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations . . . The photograph may not be manipulated in any way.” The White House planned, the Internet laughed. Web jokesters promptly Photoshopped the image into an array of situations that, among other things, had Obama aiming his shotgun at Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner, tooling around armed and dangerous in the video game “Grand Theft Auto” and

This isn´t an excuse. The media is intentionally protecting Barack Obama at all costs (see: cover up, Libya), and the media is populated by hive minds terrified of what might happen should they jump off the Narrative Plantation and actually report on the state of the economy. But via Glenn Reynold´s Instapundit, we learn a third reason the media doesn´t care about those struggling in Obama´s economy: Washington DC has become the Imperial City: The Washington, D.C., region has long been considered recession-proof, thanks to the remorseless expansion of the federal government in good times and bad.

Maybe the most disturbing news in “American Turnaround,” Ed Whitacre’s new book that describes his stint as head of General Motors, is how naïve he was about what it means to run a company that’s been bailed out by the federal government, and is now regulated by the anti-business types who populate the Obama administration. As Whitacre takes the job back in 2009, he thinks that the automaker’s government masters are rational people looking to help the company survive and thrive. Along the way, he finds out that they’re not. In fact, their true goal wasn’t

WHEN SARAH Palin burst on the national political scene in 2008, her star power was blinding to both her fans and detractors. Love her or hate her, the Alaska governor tapped by Senator John McCain to be his running mate became an instant celebrity. The GOP ticket’s loss that November seemed not to affect her popularity. Palin’s public appearances continued to draw enormous crowds, and her sometimes dubious political comments invariably were treated as news. When she joined Fox News in 2010 as a commentator at a salary of $1 million a year, her future in the limelight

NYPD counter-terrorism officers are flouting long-standing court orders in spying on mosques and Muslim student organizations, civil rights lawyers charged Monday in new court papers. The lawyers asked a Manhattan Federal Court judge to appoint an independent monitor to ensure compliance with so-called Handschu guidelines that limit police surveillance of political groups. The NYPD has been spying on the Muslim community for years “using intrusive methods, without a reasonable indication of unlawful activity or a criminal predicate of any sort," said Jethro Eisenstein, a New York University law professor and one of five attorneys on the Handschu case.

This is the story of how a hatchet-wielding hitchhiker saved the day during an incredibly bizarre sequence of events to become the latest Daily Caller Patriot. (A Daily Caller Patriot is defined as, “Someone who stands up for individual liberty in the most awesomely ridiculous, obnoxious or just outright stupid way possible.” We don’t hand these out very often, so it is kind of a big deal when we do.) A homeless hitchhiker in Fresno, Calif. scored a ride over Sunday with a 300-pound man claiming to be Jesus Christ.

New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez is engulfed in a number of scandals at the moment, but on Monday he told CNN that he can explain everything. Menendez says he sent his donor/friend, who happens to be under investigation, $58,500 last month to cover the cost of two flights on a private jet because, "I was in a big travel schedule in 2010 as the chair of the (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee), plus my own campaign getting ready for a re-election cycle and in the process of all of that, it unfortunately fell through the cracks."

On Monday, Morning Joe examined the report on the Justice Department’s memo on drones. The journalist behind the report, NBC News’ Michael Isikoff, joined the crew as Joe Scarborough incredulously criticized the president’s program that gives the “right to be killed.” The segment was pegged off the report about a Justice Department memo that concludes: “The U.S. government can order the killing of American citizens if they are believed to be ‘senior operational leaders’ of al Qaeda or ‘an associated force’ — even if there is no intelligence indicating they are engaged in an active plot to attack the U.S.”

Eighteen years ago today, Trayvon Benjamin Martin was born to Sabrina Fulton and Tracy Martin. Nearly a year ago, their son was killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer in a gated community in Sanford, Fla., who viewed Trayvon as “a real suspicious guy.” Instead, the unarmed teenager was found with a bag of Skittles and an iced tea from 7-Eleven and a bullet hole in his chest from Zimmerman’s Kel-Tec 9 mm PF-9. Zimmerman now awaits trial for second-degree murder. A trial that his attorney is trying to delay. But he will have his day in court.

The green religion has scored a small but highly symbolic victory in San Francisco, using the bureaucratic state and courts to vanquish a den of sin, where humans have used part of nature for their own benefit and enjoyment. In the process, two of the Bay Area´s most visible subcultures have been set against each other. Red staters can savor the cultural contradictions of America´s most liberal metropolis.(snip)Drake´s Bay Oyster Company, which has been operating for four generations, is violating the sacred wilderness state, which to the greenies is the only legitimate condition

American war hero Chris Kyle fortuitously spoke of the legacy he wanted to leave just days before being shot dead by a fellow veteran he was mentoring. “I would love for people to be able to think of me as a guy who stood up for what he believed in and helped make a difference for the vets,” he told the Texan News Service. “You know, somebody who cared so much about them that he wanted them taken care of.” That mission was tragically cut short on Saturday when Kyle and another man were killed at a gun range

This is the face of Richard III, reconstructed from the skull found beneath a social services car park that was yesterday confirmed as that of the last Plantagenet king. The facial reconstruction was today released following the confirmation that the skeleton unearthed in Leicester was that of the king killed in battle more than 500 years ago. The image is based on a CT scan taken by experts at the University of Leicester, who discovered the king´s skeleton with the help of the Richard III Society during an archaeological dig last September. In an extraordinary find which challenges conventional historical

Barack Obama still has a problem with gun owners. And they always will have a problem with him. They did back in spring of 2008 when the new kid didn´t realize he was being taped at that urban fundraiser in another San Francisco mansion. As a result, Pennsylvania primary voters went for Hillary Clinton that year, as did Ohio and Texas Democrats. No one knows what little Barry Soetoro watched on television in those formative childhood years in Indonesia--or if his family even had a TV.

Black academics don’t have a “special obligation” to speak to broader social and political issues. What we have witnessed over the last few decades is the increasing professionalization of this particular class of persons – where the object of their scholarly interests range across a number of subjects that aren’t reducible to questions of race. These individuals stand alongside those who work explicitly on racial matters, but their work doesn’t necessarily reach beyond the confines of a specialized academic community. The political significance of their ideas has been weakened or worse, banished to the shadows,

If last week’s hearing for Chuck Hagel raised questions about his capacity to be secretary of defense, the show trial conducted by his inquisitors on the tribunal raised questions about the GOP. Is the Republican Party, as currently constituted, even capable of conducting a foreign policy befitting a world power? Or has it learned nothing and forgotten nothing since George W. Bush went home and the nation rejected John McCain for Barack Obama? Consider the great foreign issues on the front burner today. Will the Japan-China clash over islets in the South China Sea, now involving warplanes and warships
