RFI’s correspondent described on Tuesday how the people of Timbuktu greeted French-led troops with delight as they entered the city. The Islamists who had controlled the town disappeared offering little resistance. “The atmosphere is good, its very good, all this liberty. Now we no longer risk prison, no one hits us, life is good.” Niafata told RFI, amid Malian and French flags and banners praising the soldiers. “Now we are at ease,” adds her friend. Doundai Touré savoured the moment of joy “People couldn’t wait to see the French army and the Malian army enter the town.

WASHINGTON — Same-sex couples will be a part of the proposal for addressing immigration reform that President Obama is scheduled to unveil Tuesday in Las Vegas, BuzzFeed has confirmed with multiple sources familiar with the White House plan. A Democratic source said: "Same-sex couples will be part of his proposal." A second source confirmed that, unlike the Senate framework released Monday, same-sex bi-national couples — those with one American and one foreign partner — will be included in the White House principles.

New term, new project. First Lady Michelle Obama has quietly dropped her "Let´s Move" campaign, the healthy eating push she took on for schools all over the country during her husband´s first term. First Lady Michelle Obama appears to have abandoned, at least for now, her oft-criticized “Let’s Move” initiative to promote exercise and healthy eating among the nation’s youth, halting public appearances and statements related to the program. Mrs. Obama does not appear to have done anything much to personally

Eighteen Americans were killed in the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu. The two-day firefight during which a group of soldiers tried to rescue their fallen comrades inspired the film ‘Black Hawk Down.’ According to critics, the Clinton White House failed to provide our men with the resources needed to complete the mission. Some are drawing comparisons between the tragedy and the events surrounding the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. Howard Wasdin, who survived the battle at Mogadishu and went on to write “SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper,” joined Fox and Friends this morning.

Once again Sarah Palin is showing that she has no plans to play by the rules. She has parted ways with FOX News after a turbulent relationship with the conservative cable news channel, taken pot shots at pundits in the ´lame stream media´ and slammed her own party for selecting Mitt Romney as the 2012 Republican presidential nominee. Now the former Alaska governor says she´ll use the $1.2 million raised through her SarahPAC to ´shake up the GOP machine´ and unveiled a vague vision on how she´ll get her message out to a larger audience.

All the defendants were tried in absentia. The court ruled the film in question, dubbed ´The Innocence of Muslims,´ to be defamatory to Islam and the Prophet Mohammed and a potential threat to Egypt´s national unity. The seven convicted Coptic expatriates were: Maurice Sadiq Gerges, founder of a US-based Coptic

Zero Dark Ethanol

Ethanol is one of the only products in history that Congress subsidizes and mandates at the same time. That sounds pretty generous. Yet now a federal court has ruled the Environmental Protection Agency is illegally giving the lobby extra benefits that Congress never intended. That takes some work. On Friday the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals found that the EPA had abused the law with "an unreasonable exercise of agency discretion," and it vacated the 2012 cellulosic ethanol mandate. The 2007 Bush-Pelosi energy bill required blending fuels that can allegedly be made from switchgrass or farm waste into the gasoline supply,

CHRIS MATTHEWS: People that believe in border protection, who believe you can stop somebody from coming into this country by higher towers, or more drones, or more people working there, I think are right-wingers or idiots. If you want to work and you´re looking for a job, you´re going to come to America, Congresswoman. You´re going to come in here and you´re going to find a way in, whether you have to take a boat, an airplane, or swim. Whatever you have to do, you´re going to get here. With record numbers of college graduates underemployed in jobs that don’t actually require degrees, economists are joking that even aspiring janitors may soon have to get master’s degrees to compete for jobs. A study released Monday by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity found that 37 percent of employed graduates didn’t need to attend college at all to successfully perform their current jobs. Boston Scientific is cutting up to 1,000 more jobs as it deals with a new medical device tax from the U.S. health care overhaul, limited growth prospects in certain markets and pressure to cut prices on its products in other countries. Still, the Natick, Mass., company´s shares jumped Tuesday after the maker of pacemakers and heart stents reported fourth-quarter results and a 2013 profit forecast that exceeded Wall Street expectations. Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., said Monday that so far, he has not counted a single Democratic “no” vote on the question of whether former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel should be confirmed as Defense secretary. Hagel, whose nomination has drawn fire from his fellow Republicans, is scheduled to appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday for his hearing. Though the session with the panel is expected to be testy, Hagel will likely clear that hurdle before facing a 60-vote threshold in the full Senate. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) as the 68th secretary of state, by a unanimous voice vote. The full Senate will vote on Kerry’s nomination later today. The unanimous vote is not much of a surprise; Kerry sailed through his four-hour confirmation hearing. As Anne Gearan wrote: Kerry outlined no grand agenda for the next four years. The closest he got to a foreign policy mission statement was the observation that “more than ever, foreign policy is economic policy.”

Cairo - The head of the Egyptian military warned political conflict could lead to the collapse of the state and said protecting the Suez Canal was one of the main objectives of the army deployment to nearby cities shaken by violence. Protesters defied a curfew in towns along the Suez Canal overnight, attacking police stations after President Mohamed Morsi imposed emergency rule to end days of clashes that have killed at least 52 people. The remarks of General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who is also defense minister, were published on the official Facebook page of the army spokesman.

WASHINGTON, DC — President Obama may know he doesn´t have the authority to directly destroy the gun industry in the US, but that’s not stopping him and his fellow community activists, some of whom are in high political positions. Obama’s latest attack is a coordinated effort among the federal agencies he controls, plus his big-city mayors, and it is set up to treat legitimate American businesses as if they were proponents of apartheid. Obama & Company are forcing “their” agencies to divest their holdings in firearms and ammunition manufacturers. Some, like Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel,

WASHINGTON, DC — On Sunday evening, January 27, Steve Kroft embarrassed himself, CBS, 60 Minutes, and the American media in general with an historically sycophantic interview of President Barack Obama and outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. When Obama and Clinton were offstage, Kroft did refer to the Benghazi fiasco as “the biggest diplomatic disaster of this administration,” but the questions he asked them on camera were prefaced with comments like, “You had a very long day [at the hearings]. Also, how is your health?” Kroft introduced other questions with remarks like,

The recent decision by outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta to allow women to serve in front-line combat units is fraught with problems, and no one in the administration or at the Department of Defense seems to be considering them. First of all, it is important to understand that the nature of warfare has changed substantially in the last couple of decades. Linear battlefields with clearly defined front lines and rear areas are no longer the norm and are unlikely to re-emerge in future warfare. Furthermore, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)
