What if, during the presidential campaign, Mitt Romney had accused President Obama of wanting to let servicewomen serve in combat? After all, Obama had hinted as much in 2008. What would Obama´s response have been? My hunch is that he would have accused Romney of practicing the "politics of division" or some such and denied it.In any case, wouldn´t an open debate have been better than putting women into combat by fiat?

Earlier this month, Brian Dennehy started a new job as chief marketing officer of Nordstrom Inc. In his first week, he pulled aside a colleague to ask a question: How hard it is for a nonemployee to enter the building? Mr. Dennehy doesn´t have a particular interest in corporate security. He just doesn´t want to be "It." Mr. Dennehy and nine of his friends have spent the past 23 years locked in a game of "Tag." It started in high school when they spent their morning break darting around the campus of Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane, Wash.

NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous said Sunday, perhaps unwittingly, that black Americans “are doing far worse” than when President Obama first took office.“The country’s back to pretty much where it was when this president started,” Mr. Jealous told MSNBC host David Gregory on “Meet the Press.” “White people in this country are doing a bit better. Black people are doing far worse.”The black unemployment rate was 12.7 percent when Mr. Obama took office.

President Barack Obama will fly over 9 hours tomorrow, round-trip from Washington, D.C. to Las Vegas, Nevada, just to deliver a speech on immigration, according to the president´s White House schedule. With Air Force One estimated to cost $182,000 per hour in flight, Obama´s trip--that is, only his travel to and from Vegas--will cost taxpayers over $1.6 million.

The boyfriend of Anna Wintour allegedly owes more than $1.2million to the U.S. government, according to reports. J. Shelby Bryan, 66, of Texas, has been dating the British-born Vogue editor-in-chief since 1999. And the revelation could derail Ms Wintour´s bid to become U.S. ambassador to Britain. Mr Bryan was a top fundraiser for Bill Clinton in the 1990s, and even served on the former President´s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. With Wintour, the couple helped bring in millions of dollars for President Obama´s re-election war chest last year.

An old-time trial lawyer once said, "When your case is weak, shout louder!" Secretary of State Hillary Clinton shouted louder when asked about the Obama administration´s story last fall that the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. ambassador´s quarters in Benghazi, Libya, was due to an anti-Islamic video that someone in the United States had put on the Internet, and thereby provoked a protest that escalated into violence. She shouted: "We had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they´d go kill some Americans?

A new study finds almost half of Americans with college degrees are working at jobs that don´t require one. It´s the latest example of how federal subsidies are creating a massive higher-education bubble. The study, by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, found that an incredible 48% of college graduates — about 13 million of them — hold jobs that don´t require a bachelor´s degree. About 5 million have jobs that don´t even require a high school diploma. There are, for example, roughly a million sales clerks, 300,000 waiters and 100,000 janitors with college degrees.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- The Church Protection Act inspired some good ol´ Bible bashing in the Arkansas Senate Monday, pitting a God of love against a God of guns. "My house shall be called a house of prayer," said Senator Linda Chesterfield (D-Little Rock), quoting Matthew 21:13 in opposition to the bill. "[The Bible] doesn´t talk about violence. If there was one person who was anti-violence, it was my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." Senator Gary Stubblefield (R- Branch) was quick to defend the measure, using the same scripture quoted by Chesterfield. "Remember, Jesus said you´ve turned my father´s house

Bob Schieffer of CBS News described President Obama´s recent opening remarks at the gun control press conference as, "one of the best speeches I´ve ever heard him deliver". Schieffer went on to praise the president´s cause as similar to the ten-year hunt for Osama bin Laden and Lyndon Johnson´s successful attempt to pass civil rights legislation. Although Schieffer indicated that more than an Obama speech would be required, this wasn´t objective journalism but slobbering praise for a man with a checkered record of accomplishment.

CHICAGO- A bloody weekend in which seven people were killed and six wounded has put an abrupt end - at least for now - to hopes that Chicago was at least putting a lid on its frightening homicide rate. With a few days left in the month, the nation´s third-largest city now finds itself on the cusp of its deadliest January in more than a decade. (Snip) Police say the homicide rate is a reflection of the city´s gang problem and a proliferation of guns. Chicago has for years tried to cut off the flow of guns.

Margaret Brown earned her moniker as “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” by surviving the sinking of the Titanic. Hillary Clinton earned hers by surviving multiple scandals, the last of them claiming four lives. During the Clinton Administration, Hillary Clinton was followed around by the phantom corpses of conspiracy theories, but now four real corpses trail in her wake without ever slowing her down. Hillary’s departure into the lifeboat is another escape from a ship that is too big to sink. Obama hasn’t been very popular in a while and if she’s going to make her run in 2016,

Mayor Bloomberg was focused on bums rather than guns at a recent Christmas party, where he ignored a compliment about his work on gun control to admire the “ass” of a female guest. WASHINGTON- Congress sent a a $50.5-billion relief bill to President Obama on Monday help the Northeast recover from Superstorm Sandy, ending a political furor over delays in the disaster aid. The measure cleared the Senate, 62-36. Its approval, after the president earlier this month signed a $9.7-billion flood insurance bill to help pay Sandy damage claims, would bring the relief package to more than $60 billion. "It was three months ago that Superstorm Sandy tore up the East Coast,’’ Sen. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) told colleagues. "Not one day has passed since Sandy made landfall

Washington - The United States military is preparing to establish a drone base in northwest Africa so that it can increase surveillance missions on the local affiliate of Al Qaeda and other Islamist extremist groups that American and other Western officials say pose a growing menace to the region. (Snip) If the base is approved, the most likely location for it would be in Niger, a largely desert nation on the eastern border of Mali. The Obama administration has developed its own proposals for immigration reform that are more liberal than a separate bipartisan effort in the Senate, including a quicker path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, people with knowledge of the proposals said. President Obama is expected to provide some details of the White House plans during a Tuesday appearance in Las Vegas, where he will call for sweeping changes to the nation’s immigration laws. The speech kicks off a public push by the administration in support of the broadest overhaul of immigration law in nearly three decades.
