UN backs Yemen transition,

A Security Council team pledged support for Yemen´s political transition in a rare visit to Sanaa Sunday that drew thousands to the streets to demand the scrapping of immunity for ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh under a UN-backed deal. (Snip) "The people want to put the killer on trial," chanted the demonstrators, referring to Saleh who was eased out of office in February 2012 after three decades of rule following the UN-backed and Gulf-brokered deal. Demonstrators also called for a "return of funds stolen by the former president and his family." The Youth of the Revolution, a group that was the main

This week, Hillary Clinton appeared on 60 Minutes in a joint appearance with the president of the United States. (Her accessory of choice was a much-discussed pair of glasses). Twenty years ago, she made her first appearance on 60 Minutes in very different kind of joint interview (and a different accessory: the demure headband.)Back then, the man beside her was Bill, then governor of Arkansas and a first-time presidential candidate, and she was simply "his wife, Hillary." The purpose of the interview was to answer allegations that Bill had engaged in a 12-year extramarital affair with Gennifer Flowers.

Illinois to offer driver´s licenses

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — As Illinois becomes the fourth and most populous state to issue driver´s licenses to illegal immigrants, there are still nagging concerns that the measure doesn´t have enough safeguards to avoid the identity fraud and other pitfalls faced by the three other states with similar laws. Backers of the proposal, who tout it as a public-safety measure, argue that required facial recognition technology is reliable enough to prevent fraud, but opponents point to hundreds of fraudulent cases in New Mexico, Washington and Utah after those states began giving illegal immigrants permission to drive. Illinois will not require

Pulitzer Prize-winning

In a recent column, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet suggested President Barack Obama is a Marxist who seeks to determine the “needs” of the citizenry. “All of us have had dealings with the State, and have found, to our chagrin, or, indeed, terror, that we were not dealing with well-meaning public servants or even with ideologues but with overworked, harried bureaucrats. These, as all bureaucrats, obtain and hold their jobs by complying with directions and suppressing the desire to employ initiative, compassion, or indeed, common sense. They are paid to follow orders,” Mamet wrote. “Rule by bureaucrats and functionaries

CALIFORNIA ? In the wake of Sandy Hook, even the debt ceiling and looming fiscal catastrophe have taken a back seat to gun control. The desire for strong action of some kind after an unthinkable tragedy is understandable. We believe that life is precious, and we have a deep yearning for justice. But to use the deaths of young children to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves – from violence or from out-of-control government – while neglecting to protect unborn children is hypocritical, and even dangerously malevolent. Japan on Sunday launched two satellites to strengthen its surveillance capabilities, including keeping a closer eye on North Korea which has vowed to stage another nuclear test. One of them was a radar-equipped unit to complete a system of surveillance satellites that will allow Tokyo to monitor any place in the world at least once a day. The other was a demonstration satellite to collect data for research and development. The Pakistani corporation that has refused the Pentagon’s urgent appeals to control the flow of explosive materials to bomb-makers who kill U.S. troops is expanding its fertilizer manufacturing into the United States. And it is being done with the help of U.S. taxpayers through the municipal bond market. The Indiana Finance Authority has approved $1.27 billion in tax-exempt bonds for Midwest Fertilizer Corp. to build a nitrogenous fertilizer manufacturing plant in Posey County. Midwest is a new startup company of the Fatima Group, a conglomerate headquartered in Lahore, Pakistan.

Obama Threatens Fox News, Limbaugh

In a sycophantic interview with The New Republic, conducted by former campaign staffer Chris Hughes and leftist writer Franklin Foer, President Obama suggested that he had all the answers to the pressing issues facing America and therefore no compromise was necessary with Republicans. He added that Republicans should compromise. And if those Republicans don’t compromise, Obama suggested that the fault would lie at the feet of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh – and that the calculus had to be changed to force Fox News and Limbaugh to stop holding Republicans accountable to conservatism.

There are few people we think we know more about than President Barack Obama and outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and everyone has an opinion about their politics, their marriages and a rivalry that is one of the richest in American history. On Friday, we had the opportunity to sit down with the two of them side by side. The White House offered us 30 minutes, barely enough time to scratch the surface of their complicated personal and professional relationship, let alone discuss their policies on Iran and Israel, Russia and China,

It´s not about guns; it’s about keeping control of your life. The gun control “war” launched against American citizens and the Constitution this past week by the elites in Washington, D.C., is most certainly not about keeping little Bobby and Mary Jane safe in school. The liberal New Republic, which is periodically described as the in-flight magazine on Air Force One for Democratic presidents, has just released the transcript of an interview with Barack Obama as he looks ahead to the next four years.[Snip]It paints a portrait of a president, in his own words, who appears deeply partisan, sneeringly dismissive of his political opponents, bitterly angry at his adversaries for standing in the way on issues such as the budget, and completely lacking in any humility. If this is Obama at the start of his second term, one can only imagine what he´ll be like

At the age of 14 you may expect burger and chips or pizza to be on the menu, but a teenage chef has wowed the food world so much with his experimental fine dining that he has been taken on by a top Beverly Hills restaurant. Child prodigy Flynn McGarry has cooked for more than 120 people, run a pop-up restaurant with an 18-course tasting menu and impressed critics and diners over his three year career which began at the tender age of 11. And next week the San Fernando Valley schoolboy will head the kitchen at Beverly Hills´

Beyond the media fawning over the spectacle of President Barack Obama and outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sitting down for an interview together on 60 Minutes--old rivals, reunited!--there is a message that the president wants to send. Not just the fact that Vice President Joe Biden is not be his first pick for 2016, but also the signal that Republicans ought to forget about a revival in four years: liberalism is here to stay. Republicans seem to have concluded that their overall revival depends on finding the right candidate to win.

In Naperville, IL, two mothers were arrested last week for refusing to allow utility workers to install controversial smart meters on their homes. The city’s new Naperville Smart Grid Initiative requires new controversial smart meters to be installed in every home. Residents opposed to the smart meters have been fighting the initiative for over two years. Jennifer Stahl, an advocate against the smart meters initiative, told The Blaze she “was protecting” her property when she refused to allow the smart meter installer install the device. Last Thursday Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and other U.S. military leaders lifted the ban on women serving in combat positions. I, for one, think this is a great idea and have a few modest proposals, if the brass inside the beltway is open to suggestions, on how they should deploy the dames (and whom they should deploy). First off, if you truly want to eviscerate the enemy—namely Muslims—then I propose sending the most nerve grating and foul women Hollywood has to offer straight into hot zones as our forward armies.

Barack Obama´s pre-presidential manifesto, The Audacity of Hope, has only one extended riff on gun control—not a homily on behalf of the cause or even a meditation on the deep divisions opened by the debate, but a story of crummy luck. While State Senator Barack Obama was vacationing in Hawaii, visiting his grandmother and hoping to "reacquaint myself with Michelle," the Illinois legislature abruptly returned to consider bills making the possession of illegal firearms a felony offense. Joining this special session would have required him to backtrack thousands of miles with a sick 18-month old in tow.
