Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said that the Republican Party has to accept a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants as part of an immigration-reform package. McCain said on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday that a group of bipartisan senators would be announcing “principles” on immigration reform this week, which he said was similar to a plan unveiled during President George W. Bush’s second term that ultimately failed. McCain said there’s one big reason that his party has to loosen its opposition to

In Naperville, IL, two mothers were arrested last week for refusing to allow utility workers to install controversial smart meters on their homes. The city’s new Naperville Smart Grid Initiative requires new controversial smart meters to be installed in every home. Residents opposed to the smart meters have been fighting the initiative for over two years. Jennifer Stahl, an advocate against the smart meters initiative, told The Blaze she “was protecting” her property when she refused to allow the smart meter installer install the device. She felt “like a momma bear protecting her babies,” she recalled.

Last Thursday Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and other U.S. military leaders lifted the ban on women serving in combat positions. I, for one, think this is a great idea and have a few modest proposals, if the brass inside the beltway is open to suggestions, on how they should deploy the dames (and whom they should deploy). First off, if you truly want to eviscerate the enemy—namely Muslims—then I propose sending the most nerve grating and foul women Hollywood has to offer straight into hot zones as our forward armies.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) are bumping elbows as both work to establish leadership roles on immigration and education reform while weighing 2016 presidential bids. Bush on Friday appeared to criticize Rubio’s strategy for overhauling the nation’s immigration laws through a series of small bills instead of a comprehensive package as “shortsighted and self-defeating,” although he did not name Rubio. “Some policy makers are calling for piecemeal changes — such as issuing visas for

Barack Obama´s pre-presidential manifesto, The Audacity of Hope, has only one extended riff on gun control—not a homily on behalf of the cause or even a meditation on the deep divisions opened by the debate, but a story of crummy luck. While State Senator Barack Obama was vacationing in Hawaii, visiting his grandmother and hoping to "reacquaint myself with Michelle," the Illinois legislature abruptly returned to consider bills making the possession of illegal firearms a felony offense. Joining this special session would have required him to backtrack thousands of miles with a sick 18-month old in tow.

A quartet of conservative panelists looked at the challenges of being the minority party in a divided government during a Saturday afternoon panel at the National Review Institute Summit titled, “The Way Out of the Fiscal Mess.” “We actually know how to get out,” said Christopher DeMuth, a scholar at the Hudson Institute. He said long-term Medicare reforms as well as tax reform are needed to help the government escape the mounting fiscal crisis. “We know for certain America is not going to do that,” DeMuth said. DeMuth was joined on stage by Amity Shlaes,

Football´s first fan isn´t sure he´d let his son play the game, in light of the impact it takes on its players. ´I´m a big football fan, but I have to tell you, if I had a son, I´d have to think long and hard before I let him play football,´ President Obama said. ´And I think that those of us who love the sport are going to have to wrestle with the fact that it will probably change gradually to try to reduce some of the violence,´ Obama said.

Maryland educators are launching an assault on normal childhood behavior. In Talbot County, Maryland, two boys aged 6 were recently suspended for pretending their fingers were guns while playing cops and robbers during recess. This comes just after another 6-year-old at a Montgomery County school was suspended for the same thing. These suspensions were later reversed, but why are they happening in the first place? They seem to be part of a larger effort to condition our kids to reject guns and the Second Amendment. (Snip) A couple months before Sandy Hook, my son, who is in elementary school

One in four violent criminals is cheating justice by escaping with a caution, magistrates warned yesterday. They are among tens of thousands of crooks, including sex offenders and burglars, wrongly let off with a ´slap on the wrist´ by police. New figures showed one in five sex offenders are also cautioned as well as an astonishing one in 20 of offenders with more than 10 previous convictions. Experts fear officers are widely misusing cautions because they cut down on paperwork and improve crime detection figures. The criminal justice sanction was originally aimed at first-time offenders caught committing relatively low level

Fox News Channel Brit Hume contributor took issue with his colleagues on Sunday when he said the effusive compliments that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been showered with are largely unearned. He launched into a monologue in which he outlined why Clinton’s tenure at State has been decidedly mediocre – “competent,” but not great. After his detailed list, Hume was confronted by Juan Williams who accused him of underestimating Clinton and President Barack Obama’s first term accomplishments.

Despite this, when Menendez was given a six-minute interview with Martha Raddatz on ABC´s This Week Sunday, he was not asked one question about the investigation or the allegations (commentary follows with full transcript at end of post): Raddatz began the interview asking Menendez about what Sen. In a soon-to-be-released interview with The New Republic, President Obama reportedly laments the negative influence Fox News and Rush Limbaugh can have on the congressional debate over various pieces of legislation. The president told TNR editor Frank Foer and owner Chris Hughes that “One of the biggest factors is going to be how the media shapes debates.” The media can either help break or uphold partisan gridlock, the president said, adding that “If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest,

CHARLOTTE — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal stands out among the Republican Party’s up-and-comers. As president of the Republican Governors Association and a frequent speaker for the GOP, he’s one of a new generation of reform-minded, young Republican leaders — among them, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, and Govs. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Nikki Haley of South Carolina and Susana Martinez of New Mexico. Many observers consider Jindal, 41, potential presidential material. He is a blunt talker who pushes big change for government and his party.

Freshman Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas on Saturday chided the GOP over its 2012 electoral losses, saying "Republicans are and should be the party of the 47 percent," a clear allusion to the remarks caught on video by presidential candidate Mitt Romney during the campaign. Cruz, speaking at the National Review Institute summit in Washington, was quick to say he wasn´t criticizing Romney, but that the party lost a messaging battle with the electorate and that comment was just a symptom of the problem.

Britain is ´self-segregating´ as white families flee urban areas for the countryside and outer suburbs. The trend is causing an ´ethnic cliff´, in which the proportion of households from minority backgrounds is vastly different in areas just a few miles apart. Some outer London boroughs--including Enfield, Waltham Forest and Redbridge--have seen their white British population drop by as much as a quarter over the past decade. The same applies to urban areas around the capital such as Luton, Reading and Bedfordshire. Meanwhile, the white British population in many suburban and rural districts just next door has soared, according to research

MEXICO CITY — In a country where citizens are regularly victimized by corrupt and abusive police, a court ruling freeing a woman from prison because of police mistreatment would seem welcome. Instead, many Mexicans are outraged. Ending a long legal case that had generated front-page headlines on two continents, the Mexican Supreme Court this week freed Florence Cassez, a 38-year-old French woman jailed for kidnapping, because authorities had trampled her right to due process. The 3-2 ruling came in the midst of a sweeping judicial reform being implemented with millions of dollars in U.S. aid and a small army of U.S. advisors.

If you´re a believer who takes the Bible seriously, you have asked yourself this question many times. I have. It has baffled me. Maybe a quick look at the Bible -- specifically, the Torah -- can clarify matters. Let me say right off -- America does not replace ancient Israel. And we certainly should not bring back old rituals and regulations. But we can look for general principles, just as our founders did.
