ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The suspect, hands and feet shackled, fidgeted in his chair, chuckling at times as he confessed to a brutal killing. Israel Keyes showed no remorse as he described in merciless detail how he´d abducted and strangled an 18-year-old woman, then demanded ransom, pretending she was alive. (Snip) In 40 hours of interviews over eight months, Keyes talked of many killings; authorities believe there were nearly a dozen. He traveled from Vermont to Alaska hunting for victims. He said he buried "murder kits" around the country so they would be readily accessible.

Comprehensive immigration reform could make millions of people suddenly eligible for assistance under President Obama´s healthcare law, assuming a final deal paves the way for undocumented immigrants to receive papers. Illegal aliens are now prohibited from purchasing coverage through the Affordable Care Act´s insurance exchanges, which will launch next year. They are also ineligible for Medicaid under most circumstances, making the law´s expansion of the program fruitless for people without documents. Even young illegal immigrants with "deferred action" status, known as "DREAMers," cannot access the law´s benefits.

President Barack Obama pledged this morning in his weekly radio address to continue to crackdown on "irresponsible behavior." "Here in America, we know the free market is the greatest force for economic progress the world has ever known. But we also know the free market works best for everyone when we have smart, commonsense rules in place to prevent irresponsible behavior," Obama began. "That’s why we passed tough reforms to protect consumers and our financial system from the kind of abuse that nearly brought our economy to its knees.

A wealthy MP dubbed the ‘Tory Barack Obama’ has been accused of undermining David Cameron with a secret leadership bid. The Mail on Sunday has learned that multi-millionaire IT tycoon Adam Afriyie is poised to stand, should a rumoured backbench revolt force the Prime Minister to resign. Two Tory MPs have told this newspaper they were asked to sign a letter endorsing Mr Afriyie as a leadership challenger in the event of such a contest. One said Mr Afriyie’s supporters claimed 40 MPs had already signed – though his allies deny the letter even exists.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived back in the Senate, after dodging a few falling safes, multiple banana peels and an ornery dog named Henry, to give a carefully prepared histrionic rant which can be summed up, “I do care a lot” and “None of this was my fault” and “What difference at this point does it make?” The last isn’t a sarcastic restatement. It’s what she actually said. It might make a difference to a Coptic Christian whose trailer for a bad movie was blamed by the leader of the free world for a series of

BOSTON — Massachusetts immigrant advocates are set to gather at the State House in Boston to ask lawmakers to back a bill that will allows all state residents to apply for a driver´s license, regardless of their immigration status. Massachusetts law currently requires immigrants seeking a driver´s license to prove that they are in the country legally. Immigrant advocates say changes will ensure that drivers on state roads are trained, licensed and insured. The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition has worked with two Democratic lawmakers to introduce the Safe Driving Bill to address the fact that unlicensed

The Obama administration’s proposed defense budget calls for military families and retirees to pay sharply more for their healthcare, while leaving unionized civilian defense workers’ benefits untouched. The proposal is causing a major rift within the Pentagon, according to U.S. officials. Several congressional aides suggested the move is designed to increase the enrollment in Obamacare’s state-run insurance exchanges. The disparity in treatment between civilian and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention. The proposed increases in health care payments by service members, which must be approved by

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the country must do a better job of transmitting a pro-Democracy message around the world to counteract the "extremist jihad narrative." Clinton made the comments Wednesday as part of her long-awaited Capitol Hill testimony about the fatal terror attack on a U.S. outpost in Libya that included debate on how the country can prevent similar attacks in the Middle East and other regions in political and civil turmoil. "I think we´ve abdicated the broadcasting arena both in TV and radio, which are considered kind of old-fashioned media (but) still very important

President Obama has shown increasing contempt for the constitutional limits on his power, and the courts are finally awakening to the news. A unanimous panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Friday that the President´s non-recess recess appointments are illegal and an abuse of executive power. On January 4, 2012, Mr. Obama bypassed the Senate´s advice and consent power by naming three new members of the National Labor Relations Board and appointing Richard Cordray to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Other Presidents have made recess appointments and we´ve supported that executive authority.

Sparking applause from the crowd gathered at the National Review Institute’s summit, Mr. Cruz said he is confident that the nation is “on the verge of a rebirth of conservatism” and that the first step in that direction is for members of House GOP to cancel their subscription to the Old Gray Lady. “The next two years of headlines from The New York Times: ‘The Democrats are right, abandoned conservative principles,” Mr. Cruz said.

Gen. Martin Dempsey, President Obama’s chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Thursday that the U.S. military could figure out ways to preserve the privacy of young ladies serving in frontline combat units, including special forces combat units such as the Navy Seals and the U.S. Army’s Delta Force. At the Pentagon press briefing on Thursday at which Dempsey and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta signed a directive lifting the military’s ban on putting women in frontline ground combat units, a reporter asked Dempsey: “What about privacy?”

Researchers from Lund University in Sweden have discovered the secret to dung beetle navigation, according to a news release from Cell Press. Researchers found that dung beetles use the Milky Way galaxy to navigate at night. Scientists have known for years that birds and humans navigate by the stars, but this findings is the first believable evidence for a similar ability in insects, according to researchers. This is also the first known evidence of any animal navigating via the Milky Way as opposed to the stars.

New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez is scheduled to appear on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday amid the rekindled firestorm surrounding his trips to the Dominican Republic. Several people at the network, including anchor George Stephanopoulos, haven’t responded when Breitbart News has asked if Stephanopoulos or reporter Martha Raddatz will ask Menendez about his alleged sexual escapades abroad. This reporter interviewed two Dominican Republic women in November, while reporting for The Daily Caller before joining Breitbart News, who claimed Menendez paid them for sex around Easter time this year. The encounter apparently took place at Casa de Campo,

In my research for the film I made on Governor Palin, The Undefeated, I was constantly amazed at the anti-establishment stands she took at every step in her rise to power. Moves that a conventional politician would run from, she embraced: in Wasilla, in Juneau, and in the rise of the Tea Party. Her ability to see “over the hill” to what is really important, what really matters, is what sets her apart. Andrew Breitbart embraced the Governor as a fellow warrior in the long struggle against a detached and venal political/media complex. He lives on in spirit

Visa and Mastercard have agreed to let merchants add a service charge equal to the cost of processing a credit transaction to the bottom line. The cost of processing is usually 1.5 to 3 perc cent, and merchants are capped at a 4 per cent fee under the agreement.[Snip]Merchants will still not be allowed to add a surcharge to debit card transactions. As the football commentators might put it, it was a week of two speeches.[Snip] Mr Obama’s oration got remarkably little analysis in the British press--perhaps because second presidential inaugurals are something of a dramatic let-down. Or maybe because what he said sounded so tired and familiar to British ears. Indeed, the words that created a storm of partisan recrimination in the United States because they were so contentious in domestic terms--an aggressively uncompromising new stand in the war of attrition between the Democratic White House and a Republican Congress--came across here as recycled New Labour-speak: “But we have always understood

"Enough is enough," said Wharton, who had made a similar protest when he appeared at Westwood in September to condemn a killing at the same community center. "There are too many doggone guns on our streets," the mayor said Friday. "All you have to do is watch the news, read the newspapers and in some neighborhoods walk out on the

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is sharing his regrets about his "fiscal-cliff" strategy, less than a month after the House bitterly swallowed a last-minute deal hatched in the Senate. In a private speech to the Ripon Society on Tuesday, Boehner said that he should have taken a different course after the November election by immediately demanding that the Senate produce a bill to avert the worst parts of a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that were due to hit on Jan. 1. Instead, Boehner delivered a formal speech at the Capitol on the day after President Obama won a second term,
