Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) is absolutely right and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s calculating congressional testimony this week confirms it: Congress must appoint a select committee to investigate the terrorist attack in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. (Snip) The Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives is the only public watchdog left in America at the moment, and Congressman Wolf should be commended for believing that the Benghazi attack and botched response from the Obama Administration rises to the level of deserving a select committee.

A federal court delivered a serious blow to the Environmental Protection Agency’s renewable fuel agenda, ruling that the agency exceeded its authority by mandating refiners use cellulosic biofuels, which isn’t commercially available. The court sided with the country’s chief oil and gas lobby, the American Petroleum Institute, in striking down the 2012 EPA mandate that would have forced refineries to purchase more than $8 million in credits for 8.65 million of gallons of the cellulosic biofuel. However, none of the biofuel is commercially available. “[W]e agree with API that EPA’s 2012 projection

Have you heard much about President Obama’s $787,000,000,000 economic “stimulus” (now estimated to cost $831,000,000,000) lately? In its last report, published in 2011, the president’s own Council of Economic Advisors released an estimate showing that, for every $317,000 in “stimulus” spending that had by then gone out the door, only one job had been created or saved. Even in Washington, that’s not considered good bang for the buck. Moreover, that was the fifth consecutive “stimulus” report that showed this number getting progressively worse. Alas, that was the last report

When I heard that the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled President Obama had violated the Constitution for making recess appointments to the NLRB while the Senate was still in session the first thing that came to mind was Richard Cordray. The same day Obama made the NLRB appointments he also appointed Cordray to head up the Consumer Financial Protection Board. Senate Republicans had filibustered Cordray’s appointment in 2011. There is a separate lawsuit before the courts challenging the constitutionality of Obama’s appointment of Cordray. No doubt the Obama Administration was anticipating this ruling. It was only yesterday

A day after watching a 6-year-old neighborhood boy fly through the air when he was fatally struck by a teenage driver suspected of being intoxicated, Jane Withers refused to leave the spot where the boy´s mother tried in vain to save him. Overcome by the magnitude of the tragedy that left Brandon Abrams´ family grieving and a 17-year-old jailed on intoxication manslaughter charges, Withers helped set up a makeshift memorial soon after the incident at 6 p.m. Thursday in her Northwest Side neighborhood.

In a blockbuster one-hour investigative special that aired on Fox News´ "Hannity" on Friday, Peter Schweizer, Steve Bannon, and Sean Hannity exposed how Washington, D.C. has extracted power and money from the United States into a centralized location to become the country´s greatest "boomtown," despite not creating anything. Schweizer, the president of the nonpartisan Government Accountability Institute, highlighted how the permanent political class that relies on lobbying and influence peddling makes more money by "growing the size of government," which leaves no incentive on either side of

You likely have a cellphone that you bought from a carrier, like AT&T, Verizon or Sprint, and that phone only works on that carrier´s cellular and data network -- unless you "unlock" it. That is a software process that allows the phone to work on other carriers if you put in a new SIM card or want to take the phone to another carrier for service. If that sounds complicated to you and like something you wouldn´t bother with, then today´s news won´t matter to you. But if that´s something you´ve done before or have thought about doing,

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has told the Associated Press that he will not seek reelection in 2014. “It’s just time to step aside,” Harkin, 73, told AP, noting that he would be 81 be the end of another term. Harkin’s decision makes him the third senator up for reelection this cycle to announce his retirement. Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) have both announced they will not seek another term. Harkin is in his fifth term and has become one of the most outspoken liberals in the Senate in recent years. Over the past few weeks,

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco city officials preparing for the 49ers’ Super Bowl game against the Baltimore Ravens are hoping to avoid a repeat of the violence and vandalism that marred World Series celebrations last year. A total of 36 people were arrested during post-game celebrations in October after the San Francisco Giants’ World Series victory against the Detroit Tigers, 23 of them for felonies. Celebrants lit a number of bonfires in the middle of Mission Street, broke windows and, in one notorious incident, set a Muni 8X-Bayshore Express bus on fire at Market and Kearny streets.

When Mohamed Morsi dehumanizes Jews as “the descendants of apes and pigs,” there’s an elephant in the room. We find it here: Those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped evil — these are many times worse in rank, and far more astray from the even Path! You see, Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood mahoff–turned–president did not conjure up the apes-and-pigs riff on his own. When Morsi fulminates that Muslims “must not forget to nurse our children

Looks like it´s back to guns again this weekend. Any time California´s Sen. Dianne Feinstein shows up on two shows, that´s the giveaway. With a grab-me dose of "Women in Combat!" That´s the latest issue President Obama has churned up to keep Americans divided and arguing and not noticing what the Chicagoan is not doing about the economy and his numerous promises. It´s strictly a PC call by the Democrat.

Islamic clothing is getting a bit more hip in Southern California. Home to one of the largest Muslim communities in the nation, the Southland has become fertile ground for a new generation of designers crafting clothes for women who are limited by faith and conviction from flashing too much skin. Although Muslim women have been dressing fashionably for years, many in the U.S. say they still face tricky challenges when getting dressed — and especially dressed up. "We are Muslim and we can still express ourselves, be fashionable, as long as we do it in a halal way"

CANON CITY- A Catholic hospital in Canon City has argued in court documents that it is not liable for the deaths of two 7-month-old fetuses because those fetuses are not people. So far, courts have side with the hospital. But that defense contradicts church teaching that human life is sacred from the moment of conception. At least one prominent abortion foe called the hospital´s claims morally untenable. The issue of whether a fetus is a person was raised in a lawsuit filed by Jeremy Stodghill, whose 31-year-old wife, Lori, died in 2006 at St. Thomas More Hospital in Canon City.

Actor Burt Reynolds is in intensive care in a Florida hospital, where he went for treatment of flu symptoms, one of his representatives said Friday. Reynolds was dehydrated when he went to the hospital, and was eventually transferred to its intensive care unit, his representative Erik Kritzer told CNN. Kritzer declined to divulge what hospital the actor was in, saying, "He would like that (kept) private." "He is doing better at this time," Kritzer said late Friday afternoon of the 76-year-old actor. "We expect, as soon as he gets more fluids, he will be back in a regular room."

Cairo -- Egypt exploded in turmoil this weekend with at least 22 people killed in clashes over an unpopular court verdict Saturday following a day of politically charged violence throughout the country. The clashes in the northeastern city of Port Said came after a judge sentenced 21 people to death for their roles in a football game riot last year. Angry relatives of those convicted clashed with security forces outside the prison, leaving nearly two dozen people killed and more than 200 wounded, the Health Ministry said. Two police officers were among the dead, the head of Port Said

Hi, I’m Senator John Thune from the great state of South Dakota. With the recently passed fiscal cliff legislation, Congress enacted tax relief for 99 percent of Americans. Now that the tax part of the fiscal cliff issue has been dealt with, it’s time to address the real cause of Washington’s fiscal mess— out-of-control spending. Washington is addicted to spending your money.

WASHINGTON — Michelle Obama has a new look, both in person and online, and with the president´s re-election, she has four more years as first lady, too. That´s got many people wondering: What will she do with them? Take on a new cause? Travel more? Trace the path of another first lady and keep the Obama political brand alive by running for office? The answers are to be determined. The first lady is trying to figure out what comes next for this self-described "mom in chief" who also is a champion of healthier eating, an advocate for military families

President Obama won re-election on the premise that he is defending the middle class. But that very assertion assumes, firstly, that the middle class needs "defending" and, secondly, that it is the function of government to defend it. Both assumptions are wrong. Basic to Obama´s thinking is the idea that the American middle class is endangered, and endangered not by government, but by capitalism. That belief has profound implications for all of society. It suggests, for example, that one´s individual efforts are futile. As the left sees, if an individual does succeed,

DENVER- A political generation ago, the West signaled the nation´s rightward swing - from the emergence of Ronald Reagan to the success of tax-limitation ballot measures in California and Colorado. But now the fabled expanse of jagged peaks, arid deserts and emerald coastlines is trending in a different direction. From Washington state - where voters in November legalized marijuana and upheld the legality of gay marriage - to New Mexico, once a hotly contested swing state that Republicans ceded to Democrats in the presidential campaign, the West has become largely Democratic terrain. There are, as always, exceptions.

Hi, everybody. Here in America, we know the free market is the greatest force for economic progress the world has ever known. But we also know the free market works best for everyone when we have smart, commonsense rules in place to prevent irresponsible behavior. That’s why we passed tough reforms to protect consumers and our financial system from the kind of abuse that nearly brought our economy to its knees. And that’s why we’ve taken steps to end taxpayer-funded bailouts.

Wealth in Washington, DC has surged to the highest median income in the United States, surpassing even tech mecca Silicon Valley, California. With a median household income of $119,134, the Census Bureau reports that Loudoun County, Virginia now occupies the number one spot for the highest median U.S. income. The number two position belongs to Fairfax County, Virginia at $105,797. Arlington, Virginia comes in third at $100,735. In fact, seven of the ten counties with the highest household incomes are in the Washington region. These and other eye-opening facts are evidence of a new Washington “aristocracy”
