EAST ST. LOUIS, IL. – An alarming video of a Tuesday afternoon brawl at a social services office in East St. Louis had workers and clients concerned for their safety and brought calls for action. A witness told FOX2 it began as a dispute over a place in line. In spite of all the flying fists, there have been no arrests. Workers and clients said that had to change. State and local authorities didn`t know about the video until FOX 2 News alerted them. East St. Louis Mayor, Alvin Parks, called for metal detectors at office at 9th and Missouri.

Senator Dianne Feinstein of California has now released her hit list of weapons that would be banned under her proposed “gun control” legislation. They include the usual suspects, including the AK-47 rifle — which is only the most widely used rifle on planet Earth — and the dreaded AR-15, a weapon that strikes fear and terror into tender hearts just at the sight of it. Nowhere on the list, though, do I see “police service revolver” — the .38 caliber handguns that were standard issue in American police departments for decades, and which were in use in November of 1978

Illegal immigrants and prison inmates received more than $120 million in Medicare services from 2009-2011 despite federal law that makes them ineligible for the program, according to two new reports from the HHS inspector general. The issue, according to the reports, is timing. When Medicare is alerted that someone is incarcerated or undocumented, its contractors help prevent payments from going out the door. But often, Medicare’s databases aren’t up to date, and improper payments go out. And Medicare lacks the tools to get the money back. Nearly 3,000 illegal immigrants made thousands of claims resulting in $91.6 million

Alternate headline: Second look at Kent Conrad? We’ve given the retired chair of the Senate Budget Committee plenty of grief over the last three-plus years for not producing a budget, but perhaps we were a little hasty. According to Roll Call’s report on the sudden Democratic urge to budget, there was a reason Harry Reid kept Conrad from actually doing his job, although you have to read past the jump to find it: In addition to Democrats’ willingness to take the political risks that a budget represents, sources said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid,

The decision to open up ground combat, front-line roles to women should not be viewed in isolation from a number of significant military policy changes during President Obama’s administration. Some changes have made headlines — the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” women in combat roles, and planned troop reductions– while others, like the ever-increasing influence of international human-rights law in combat operations, have not. There is a common theme, however, and it is decidedly not one of increased combat effectiveness. Following the collapse in morale after the Vietnam War, our nation has labored long and hard

I wanted to weigh in on the Congressional testimony yesterday by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. (Snip)With all due respect,” Hillary shouted, “the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they’d go kill some Americans. What difference, at this point, does it make?” Let’s be clear what Mrs. Clinton is saying. It really doesn’t matter whether the president and his advisers misled the public on the origins of a lethal terrorist attack that claimed four American lives,

Teenage conservationist Bindi Irwin has spoken out against the United States of America’s State Department after her submission to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s e-journal was censored by government officials to remove all references to overpopulation and the threat it poses to endangered wildlife. (Snip) Bindi’s mother Terri Irwin, also a prominent conservationist, said that her daughter was not impressed by the US government’s attempt to censor her submission and their inability to provide an adequate reason as to why the content relating to overpopulation had been removed.

Charlotte, NC - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called on the Republican Party to "stop being the stupid party" on Thursday as GOP leaders promised fundamental changes to help stave off future losses. In the keynote address at the Republican National Committee´s winter meeting, Jindal said the GOP doesn´t need to change its values but "might need to change just about everything else we are doing." "We´ve got to stop being the stupid party. It´s time for a new Republican Party that talks like adults," he said. "We had a number of Republicans damage the brand this year with offensive

It may be too early to judge the success or failure of Egypt’s 2011 revolution, but this much is clear: The young people who led the uprising feel betrayed, and the Islamist government that followed is focused on consolidating power when it should be ensuring economic recovery. (Snip) That is why securing the $4.8 billion International Monetary Fund loan that the government delayed last month for political reasons is a must. Not only would an IMF agreement provide needed cash flow to the budget, it would also provide a kind of certificate to reassure investors that the government

Washington - Three years before he lifted the U.S. military´s ban on females in front-line combat, Leon Panetta grew acutely aware that women in senior positions were already risking - and losing - their lives when a would-be informant blew himself up at a CIA base in Afghanistan. Panetta was CIA director at the time of the December 2009 attack in Khost, Afghanistan, and two women -- including one who headed the CIA base -- were among the seven Americans killed. (Snip) More than 150 women have died in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq since 2001, and nearly 1,000 have been wounded.

Washington - The Democratic-led U.S. Senate changed its rules on Thursday in a bid to ease partisan gridlock blamed for turning the chamber into a legislative graveyard. Senators approved the changes on bipartisan votes of 78-16 and 86-9. The changes fell far short, however, of what many Democratic reformers wanted. They preserved the right of minority Republicans to block votes on legislation with procedural roadblocks known as filibusters. But the revisions drew praise from President Barack Obama, who said in a statement, "Too often over the past four years, a single senator or

Jackson, MS - Mississippi defied the union during the Civil War and civil rights era, and at least two lawmakers think it is time to do so again. Republican state Reps. Gary Chism and Jeff Smith, both of Columbus, filed a bill this month to form the Joint Legislative Committee on the Neutralization of Federal Laws. Chism said Thursday that the tea party-backed measure is a response to President Barack Obama´s federal health care overhaul and proposals to curb gun violence. "Certainly, the Obamacare started this," Chism told The Associated Press, referring to the health care plan,

As the federal government moves forward on its plans to tighten gun restrictions, Texas lawmakers are proposing legislation to expand gun rights in the state. The latest proposal is HB 700 filed Thursday by state Rep. George Lavender, R-Texarkana, that would allow individuals with concealed handgun licenses to carry weapons in plain view on a belt or shoulder holster. “For some it is a matter of personal safety, for others it is simply a convenience/personal preference issue,” said Lavender, who carried similar legislation that failed last session. He added others view it as a constitutional issue.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein rolled out sweeping legislation that would ban more than 150 types of military-style semiautomatic rifles on Thursday, kicking off the congressional debate on a new assault-weapons ban that both sides say faces a steep uphill climb on Capitol Hill. The measure is by far the most ambitious of the number of gun-control bills introduced in the wake of the school shootings in Newtown, Conn., last month. “This is hard to do. It’s not easy to do,” Mrs. Feinstein, California Democrat, said. “I think if the people in [a] red state want their representative

Fracking is going global. The U.S. energy industry clearly still leads the way on the revolutionary drilling method that has upended global energy markets, but the rest of the world is beginning to catch up as nations seek to replicate American success in oil and natural gas development. Taking the lead in Europe, Poland plans to begin producing shale gas using hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as fracking, as soon as next year, the country’s treasury minister said recently. More than 100 exploration concessions to more than two dozen companies have been awarded, and the Polish State Geological Institute

After four years of pretending there is no jihad against the free world, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton blurted out the truth during her testimony on the Benghazi jihad massacre Wednesday: “We now face a spreading jihadist threat,” she said, adding: “We have to recognize this is a global movement.” We do? Yet the Obama administration has for years steadfastly and repeatedly denied both that there was a jihadist threat at all and that it was a global movement. So far has the Obama administration been from acknowledging that there was a jihad threat Headline repaired.

The White House has decided to circumvent Capitol Hill as it concentrates its gun-control efforts on speeches and other public appearances by President Obama and Vice President Biden outside of Washington, according to officials with knowledge of the plans. With Obama’s gun agenda dependent on centrist Democratic senators who are nervous about their reelection prospects, the administration has calculated that the president is better off helping to build a groundswell of popular support within the lawmakers’ states rather than negotiating directly with them, officials said.

The Senate approved a deal Thursday that will keep the chamber’s long-standing 60-vote threshold for halting a filibuster but streamline some of the chamber’s more cumbersome procedures. Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), largely accepting the recommendations from a bipartisan team of senior senators, won broad bipartisan support for a package of reforms that will streamline operations but leave intact rules that give the minority more rights than any other legislative body in the world.

Today Senator Dianne Feinstein unveiled her long-promised legislation to ban “assault weapons.” Since there is no such thing as an assault weapon, we will have to read the text of the law to see what it actually does. So far, I haven’t seen the text anywhere, but Feinstein’s web site has a fairly detailed description of the bill, including a list of the 157 weapons that are specifically banned. News coverage of Feinstein’s proposal has been laughably bad. Feinstein’s bill purports to toughen the 1994 assault weapons ban by reducing the number of “military style” features that make a firearm

Washington Post writer Suzy Khimm, a former reporter for far-left magazine Mother Jones, did her best to portray the Heritage Foundation´s lobbying outfit, Heritage Action, as an extreme cabal in a Thursday item on the front page of the Style section. Khimm used two variations of "hardline" to label the two-plus year old group, as well as the term "hard-right." In her article, "The right’s latest weapon: think-tank lobbying muscle," the writer ballyhooed Heritage Action´s influence in the halls of Congress, particularly in the continuing budget battle. She first likened the organization to the alter-ego

Over the past 24 hours there have been a number of good columns published that take issue with outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton´s testimony yesterday. Some mocked Congressional and Senate Democrats for choosing to fawn all over Hillary, instead of probing into the unnecessary deaths of four Americans. Others, like PJ Media´s Bryan Preston, are rightfully angry at Republicans who were completely outgunned and outmaneuvered by Madam Secretary, and as a result blew their last chance to get real answers. Simpering Democrats. Feckless Republicans.

Trenton — New Jersey state officials have issued more than 1,200 registrations to out-of-state contractors since Nov. 1 for post-storm cleanup. Some New Jersey-based companies say they´re worried that contractors from other states will flood the market. Many were hoping that New Jersey companies and workers would benefit the most from repair work in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. Jeff Gamble of the real estate division of the Stafford-based Van Dyk Group tells The Asbury Park Press that he believes New Jersey has enough local contractors to get the job done. The U.S. military reportedly ordered soldiers to remove a cross and a steeple from atop a chapel and to board up cross-shaped windows at a remote American forward operating base in Afghanistan. The removal of Christian symbols from the chapel at Forward Operating Base Orgun-E came after a solider complained — leading American Atheists president David Silverman to send a letter to the Pentagon. “Soldiers with minority religious beliefs and atheists often feel like second-class citizens when Christianity is seemingly officially endorsed by their own base,” Silverman told Fox News.
