Missouri Sheriffs Pledge To Not

JOHNSON COUNTY, Mo – As President Barack Obama continues to push gun control proposals in Washington D.C., Sheriff Charles M. Heiss, R-Johnson County is asking fellow law enforcers to sign and send this letter to the president. The letter expresses concern with the Obama administration and the president’s gun control laws he laid out before Congress last week. “It appears to me and many Americans that there is a genuine desire on the part of your administration to restrict the Second Amendment rights of law abiding American citizens in the interest of curbing gun violence in our nation,” Heiss wrote.

House GOP debt-limit bill gains
momentum ahead of floor vote

A House Republican bill to suspend the debt ceiling through May 19 appeared to be headed toward passage on Tuesday as staunch conservatives largely held their fire and the White House gave its blessing. The short-term debt-ceiling hike was only offered by House Republicans four days ago, but has quickly been embraced by members of both political parties. The turnaround highlights a shifting power structure in Washington, with a newly inaugurated President Obama promising a more active government and Republicans adjusting to a minority position against a popular president and larger Senate Democratic majority.

The Gun-Control Fight
Harry Reid Can’t Win

In 2010 Harry Reid was facing perhaps the toughest campaign of his five-decade political career. The Senate majority leader has never had particularly high approval ratings back home in Nevada, and Republicans made clear that sending him back to his hometown of Searchlight was their top priority, just as the Tea Party wave was slated to crest. But the year before, Reid cut the ribbon on Clark County Shooting Park, a 2,900-acre facility he helped build with $61 million in federal earmarks. Reid brought his antique .22-caliber rifle to the opening and proclaimed himself a fan of firearms.

In four years, we´ll be

I know it´s premature. But as I watched President Barack Obama take the oath of office for a second term on Monday, I couldn´t help thinking that four years from now, it´ll probably be President-elect Marco Rubio´s turn. Why do I think Rubio is likely to be our next president? Because the Florida senator has the vision, charisma, brains, and communications skills to fix the problems that will no doubt linger long after Obama has returned to Chicago. Of course, this is not an entirely original observation. Four years out, Rubio is already at the top of what many consider to be

More than four years after Hillary Clinton lost the Democratic nomination for president, Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign is finally debt-free, new reports filed by the campaign show. Clinton’s campaign committee paid off about $25 million in debt and now has a surplus of $204,832. The campaign retired its debt just as Clinton is preparing to step down from her job as secretary of state. Clinton supporters are pushing her to run for the presidency again in 2016. The campaign raised more than $233,000 in the last three months of 2012. Of that, more than $62,000

As President Obama was celebrating the beginning of his second term yesterday, Algeria’s prime minister delivered the sobering news that a standoff with terrorists at a remote natural gas facility ended with 37 hostages dead. That included three Americans: Victor Lynn Lovelady, 57, of Houston; Gordon Lee Rowan of Oregon; and Frederick Buttaccio, 58, of Katy, Texas. An understandable reaction in hindsight once you know what was said. Quote: “Another term for Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, huh?” No, no, I kid. I’m sure the Obamas love Debbie. Which is why O just assigned Jim Messina to basically do her job from now on. The truth is more prosaic: So what was said? We asked expert lip reader Larry Wenig. Wenig believes John Boehner is asking President Obama whether he had a chance to have a cigarette before the luncheon. President Obama gave up cigarettes three years ago. Boehner is a known chain smoker.

ALGIERS — Several Egyptian members of the squad of militants that lay bloody siege to an Algerian gas complex last week also took part in the deadly attack on the United States Mission in Libya in September, a senior Algerian official said Tuesday. The Egyptians involved in both attacks were killed by Algerian forces during the four-day ordeal that ended in the deaths of at least 38 hostages and 29 kidnappers, the official said. But three of the militants were captured alive, and one of them described the Egyptians’ role in both assaults

If the Taliban do ever succeed in toppling the government, they would almost certainly seize the nukes -- a terrifying prospect. Distracted by the deadly violence in Mali and Algeria, no one seems to be paying adequate attention to the tragicomedy under way in Pakistan. This matters because events of the last week demonstrate without equivocation that Pakistan is an utterly failed state -- but one that possesses nuclear weapons. The country is tumbling down the abyss. Where else could a fundamentalist Muslim cleric who lives in Canada draw tens of thousands of fans to a rally calling

Here’s a gig. The state Liquor Control Board is looking for consultants who can tell it “how marijuana is grown, cultivated, harvested, cured and processed.” Also, “How marijuana is infused into food and beverages. How marijuana should be packaged, labeled, transported and sold at a retail level. There are plenty of experts out there, no doubt. The question is, do they have to pass a background check? This sums up the fix the liquor board is in as it tries to turn legal marijuana into reality. Initiative 502 ordered the board to create a full-blown, highly regulated industry – “from seed to sale,”

They deemed ability grouping of students (tracking) bad for self-esteem. They replaced time-tested rote techniques and standard algorithms with

I don’t mind bias – I’m biased. But I don’t lie about it. He sits atop NBC News, then allows his news outlet to slander George Zimmerman as a ‘white’ guy

A California insurance broker, who sells health plans to individuals and small businesses, told me that she’s prepping her clients for a sticker shock. Her local carriers are hinting to her that premiums may triple this fall, when the plans unveil how they’ll billet the full brunt of Obamacare’s new regulations and mandates. California is hardly alone. Around the country, insurers are fixing to raise rates by double digits. They’re privately briefing politicians in Washington on what’s in store. Those briefings are leaving a lot of folks up and down Pennsylvania Avenue jumpy. What’s gives? President Obama, after all

I was not going to comment on President Obama´s second inaugural address until I saw a headline quoting a line from the speech: "We are made for this moment." Really? "This moment"—again? (Snip) This is the president´s favorite false alternative: either we do things "alone," or government does them for us "collectively." What this world view leaves out, of course, is the voluntary cooperation of private individuals, particularly their cooperation in the free market. Which is to say that he excludes from his world view the actual majority of human activity. But this is the basic false alternative

New fears were raised over genetically modified food yesterday after researchers found regulators had missed an "unsuspected viral gene" in widely used crops. A study published last month found that the commonest modification in GM crops includes a "significant fragment of a viral gene" known as Gene VI. The study by European Food Standards Agency experts published in the journal GM Crops and Food said the gene “might result in unintended phenotypic changes" which means it could have unintended genetic or environmental consequences. [Snip] Two thirds of GM crops approved in the US contain the hitherto unidentified viral gene.
