A centerpiece of President Obama´s second inaugural address was a call for greater economic equality, with the president saying that "our country cannot succeed when a shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it." But that´s precisely what´s happened over the past four years, as Obama´s economic policies left the majority of Americans falling behind while the wealthy few got further ahead. Evidence of this is everywhere you look. The official measure of income inequality — called the Gini index — has climbed every year Obama´s been in office, while remaining flat

We woke up on the morning of Nov. 9 expecting the usual: for one of us, the tending to patients; for the other, the morning rush of packing lunches and getting the kids to school. We were planning a party for our daughter’s seventh birthday that weekend. What ensued over the next 72 hours not only overtook all attempts for a happy family celebration but also made us prisoners in our own home. Our lives were radically upended by the story that emerged after David Petraeus resigned as CIA director. Our names were leaked as that story developed, and we were unable to attend Sunday Mass,

Gun Control: The president seeks a review of groups barred from gun ownership, while his attorney general asks the courts to keep hidden documents on running guns to drug lords sealed by executive privilege. Presumably the list of prohibited individuals include Mexican drug lords and their operatives who to this day continue to maim and murder with assault weapons and other semiautomatic firearms provided to them by this administration under the gun-running operation known as Fast and Furious. Attorney General Eric Holder has been tasked to review this list. Unfortunately, this

Washington-The Obama administration has delayed a decision on TransCanada Corp´s rerouted Keystone XL oil pipeline until after March, even though Nebraska´s governor on Tuesday approved a plan for part of the line running through his state. "We don´t anticipate being able to conclude our own review before the end of the first quarter of this year," said Victoria Nuland, a spokeswoman at the State Department, which had previously said it would make a decision by that deadline. She said the department would take into consideration approval of the line by Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman.

War On Terror: In the final debate, GOP candidate Mitt Romney was mocked for bringing up the spread of terrorism to Mali, which has been implicated in the weekend´s Algerian terrorist massacre. So who is out of touch? ´Mitt, do you know that most of America thinks Mali is one of Obama´s daughters," tweeted hipster television personality Bill Maher last October, to ridicule Romney´s debate statement that global terrorism was not dead at all and in fact was spreading. "Mali has been taken over ... the northern part of Mali, by al-Qaida-style individuals," Romney said in

A North Carolina woman, who was injured during the wild police shoot-out with a gunman at the Empire State Building in August, is suing the city — charging NYPD officers created a “dangerous and deadly confrontation,” resulting in nine wounded bystanders. Chenin Duclos, 32, was crossing 34th Street and 5th Avenue around 9 am on Aug. 24 when cops chased shooter Jeffrey Johnson through the crowded streets, the complaint states. The suit, filed today in Manhattan Supreme Court, names the city, police department and officers Craig Matthews and Robert Sinishtaj as allegedly responsible for failing to “exercise proper police tactics...

Doctors have discovered a way for professional football players to see how much damage their brains have suffered through a bruising career before it’s too late, according to a new study. UCLA researchers led a team of scientists that used a chemical marker called FDDNP to measure the degree of brain damage in five retired football players. That marker latches onto the tau proteins that build up in the brain when someone suffers from Alzheimer’s or other cognitive impairments like chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Doctors can then perform a routine positron emission tomography (PET) scan to see those chemical markers

"First they came for the local radio hosts...." If you want a glimpse into the real, practical mechanisms whereby unprincipled political power diminishes and silences opposing voices, look not to the nationally-publicized attacks on Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. Look to what happens at the local level, to people who do not have a national microphone and millions of defenders. Consider the example of Brainerd, Minnesota´s (population 13,613) local conservative radio show.

The alleged victim of a group of footballers who took pictures of themselves while sexually assaulting her told a court she only realised she had been attacked when she saw pictures on one of their phones. The Brighton and Hove Albion players accused of sexually assaulting a drunken 19-year-old, including the son of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, wanted to have ´a permanent record of their conquest´, jurors at the Old Bailey were told today. The four sportsmen took the young woman back to their hotel room and assaulted her after celebrating a victory for their club, it was alleged.

A couple of weeks ago I predicted, but also last year, about the objective that Obama has. RUSH ARCHIVE: I´ll tell you what´s on tap here. The Democrat Party and Barack Obama, particularly Obama, Obama has a lot of admiration for Reagan, in a political sense, not policy-wise. Obama´s admiration for Reagan is in the sense that Reagan was a truly transformational president.

They have been billed as villas, but that would be using the loosest sense of the word. Stretching as far as the eye can see in rows upon rows of arrow-straight uniformity, this development conjures images of a concrete slum or a prison block rather than a plush new housing estate. They are among more than 1,000 grey houses, each spaced just a few feet apart, that have been built in Lingshui County in the Hainan Province of China. But their monochrome appearance hasn´t put off the locals. Around 3,500 villagers have started to move into 1,029 new apartments,

I have been making predictions, and I should call those predictions warnings, it´s actually what they have been, about the media, about Obama, about the intentions of both, their intentions toward the Republicans, what Obama´s grand vision is. I have been warning and doing so under the guise of predictions for a lot of things, for four years.

Clinton warned a group of top Democratic donors at a private Saturday meeting not to underestimate the passions that gun control stirs among many Americans. "Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them," Clinton said. "A lot of these people live in a world very different from the world lived in by the people proposing these things," Clinton said. "I know because I come from this world." . . . He said that he understands the culture that permeates a state like Arkansas--where guns are a longstanding part of local culture.

Washington – Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.) introduced a bill on Tuesday to ban high-capacity ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds, a major element of the gun safety plan announced last week by President Obama. Lautenberg’s bill, substantially the same as one he introduced two years ago, is cosponsored by Sen. Bob Menendez and 15 other Democratic senators. A companion bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), with 48 cosponsors. Lautenberg´s “Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act” would prohibit the manufacture and sale of ammunition magazines that have a capacity

WASHINGTON -After a messy fight that highlighted strains with the White House, the Democratic National Committee completed what should have been the routine election of a new slate of officers Tuesday. As expected, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida was given another term as national party chairwoman. But below that level, chaos reigned for a time as DNC members balked at rubber-stamping a White House-approved list of replacements for several veterans of the pre-Obama era. Among the incoming DNC leaders are vice chairwomen Maria Elena Durazo, a Los Angeles labor official, and Tulsi Gabbard,

FORT BRAGG N.C. -Army Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair, a veteran of five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, deferred entering a plea to criminal charges including sexual misconduct at his court-martial Tuesday. In a rare case of an active-duty general charged with criminal offenses, Sinclair decided not to enter a plea at his arraignment hearing. After he deferred the plea, the defense moved to sanction prosecutors for having privileged e-mails. The general is accused of 25 specific violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice between October 2007 and March 2012.

During President Obama´s inauguration today, Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander (R) quoted Alex Haley, the author made world-famous for his Pulitzer Prize-winning literary sensation, "Roots." According to The Washington Post, Haley and Alexander were longtime friends. That´s all well and good, but quoting Alex Haley at an important national occasion is not unlike quoting Lance Armstrong. Because what both men are most famous for is based on brazen fraud. Haley not only lost a high-profile plagiarism suit against his work in "Roots, but any serious look into the Haley family´s genealogy has found -- and I´m being generous --

The Republican governor approved a revised route for the Canada-to-Texas pipeline which his office said would avoid environmentally sensitive areas. "Construction and operation of the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline, with the mitigation and commitments from Keystone would have minimal environmental impacts in Nebraska," he wrote in a letter to Obama and Clinton. he decision on final approval now

After enduring hours of derision and mockery by the panelists at a Chicago-area guns “forum” Sunday, one man in the audience stood up and addressed the crowd, identified himself as a veteran, and proceeded to give a straightforward but passionate defense of his support for the First and Second Amendments. The forum, despite having been marketed by the organizers from the New Trier Democrats as a “space for real conversation,” had until then allowed for anything but discussion. Countless snide remarks and dubious facts were placed on powerpoint slides as the audience, largely filled with NRA supporters, were repeatedly “shushed”
