HOUSTON -- Ninty-three-year-old Elbert Wood came home from a doctor’s appointment Monday morning to find his home burglarized and vandalized with spray paint. The great-grandfather still managed to have a sense of humor about the crooks. “They redecorated for me.” Wood built his northwest Houston home and has lived in it for 55 years. He pointed to the walls, windows, paintings, carpets and other personal belongings, now all tagged with graffiti. At his age, he’s heard and seen a lot. “I never heard of anything like this before.” He was wounded twice in World War II.

The fiscal cliff bill didn’t just raise taxes; it showered half a billion dollars on a canny Big Pharma company that knows its way around Capitol Hill. A provision in the newly-passed fiscal cliff bill allows pharmaceutical giant Amgen to sell one of its pills (Sensipar) for two more years without having to negotiate a fair price with Medicare. Sensipar is an expensive pill, and the two year delay will cost Medicare upwards of $500 million. What makes this bit of corporate welfare even more egregious is the fact that Amgen recently pleaded

Palestinians evinced weary indifference on Tuesday as Israelis voted in an election set to produce a hardline government keener to expand Jewish settlements on occupied land than seek peace. "Regardless of who wins, the result is the same: Israelis want this land but not the people," said Ahmed Amro, a professor at Al-Quds Open University in Ramallah, the West Bank´s capital.

WASHINGTON- As crowds descended and the inauguration unfolded, a few museum curators in Washington kept watch for symbols and messages that would make history. The Smithsonian´s National Museum of African American History and Culture will open during President Barack Obama´s second term, and one section will feature a large display about the first black president. Curators have been working since 2008 to gather objects, documents and images that capture his place in history. Curator William Pretzer ventured into the crowd Monday, mostly looking for memorabilia that had a personal touch - beyond the T-shirts and buttons hawked by vendors.

Regardless of one’s position on the High Court’s infamous decision forty years ago today to legalize abortion “[a]t any stage of pregnancy, for any reason,” most Americans -- not to mention legal scholars and academics -- recognize that Roe is bad Constitutional law. Nevertheless, support for the controversial ruling has reached an all-time high, at least according to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll: Forty years after the Supreme Court legalized abortion in its Roe v. Wade decision, seven out of 10 Americans support the groundbreaking rulings, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Just one week into his new position as president of Purdue University, former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels released an open letter disparaging the current financial and professional state of American higher education. Daniels, who briefly considered a run for the Republican presidential nomination, took up his new job last week after the conclusion of his second term as governor. Those who wondered what kind of administration a conservative reformer like Daniels would bring to Purdue weren’t kept in the dark for long; the new president immediately published a laundry list of problems facing higher ed,

Four F-16 fighter jets left the U.S. this morning, bound for Egypt as part of a foreign aid package critics say should have been scrapped when the nation elected a president who has called President Obama a liar and urged that hatred of Jews be instilled in children. A source who works on the Naval Air Force Base in Dallas confirmed the departure of the state-of-the-art fighter planes to FoxNews.com. Sixteen F-16s and 200 Abrams tanks are to be given to the Egyptian government before the end of the year under a $216 million foreign aid

When Federal Aviation Administration officials grounded Boeing´s fleet of 787 Dreamliner commercial jets last week due to unexplained battery fires, one of President Obama´s favorite green energy technologies got another black eye. Technologists and safety experts had long warned of problems with the lithium ion battery when in 2009 the president began betting billions of tax dollars that it should be the green power of choice for cars, trucks, and even aircraft. Just three years before that, a UPS cargo plane made an emergency landing

Traditionally, the nation celebrates an inauguration as a demonstration of the peaceful transfer or extension of presidential power, but for half of the nation’s voters Inauguration Day 2013 is more likely to be a day of mourning, a day of fear for the nation’s ability to survive Barack Hussein Obama. Let’s start with the basics. As Terence P. Jeffrey points out in a recent commentary on CNSnews.com, “During Barack Obama’s first term as president of the United States, the debt of the federal government increased by $5.8 trillion, which exceeds the combined debt accumulated under all presidents from George Washington

WASHINGTON — Addressing the issue of gun control, singer-songwriter James Taylor told The Daily Caller that Americans “need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms” in order to keep children safe. Following his performance at President Obama’s second inauguration, TheDC asked Taylor if he agreed with Obama’s executive actions on gun control. “I think the nation is very divided on gun control,” Taylor told TheDC, “but I think the majority of us feel strongly — even the majority of gun owners feel strongly — that

Saudi Arabia´s foreign minister said on Tuesday the scale of violence used by Syria´s government when fighting rebels meant a negotiated settlement of the country´s crisis was unthinkable. ``Damascus which has been a city for the longest period of time, is carpet bombed,´´ the minister said. How can you conceive of the possibility of a negotiated settlement with somebody who does that to his own country, to his own history, to his own people? It is inconceivable to us,’’ Prince Saud al-Faisal told a news conference. He was speaking after an Arab summit focusing on economic development,

Several Democrats who have come out against the evils of guns since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary have also made money by investing in gun companies. Many are still making money with investments in those manufacturers now, even as they attempt to ban their products. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), for example, is a proponent of an "assault weapons" ban, who in the meantime is enjoying the money her husband makes off a $50,000 investment in the Vanguard Small Cap Growth Index fund. As of Jan. 18, that fund included 219,918 shares of stock in Ruger Firearms

Katmandu, Nepal — An official says Nepal´s government will begin issuing citizenship certificates with the category "third gender" for people who do not wish to be identified as male or female. Activists hailed the decision, saying it was an achievement for gay and transgender rights. Home Ministry Bhola Siwakot says an order to issue the certificates was sent to all district administration offices. Nepal´s Supreme Court ruled in 2007 that the government should issue "third gender" citizenship certificates but it took five years to implement the decision. During President Obama´s inauguration today, Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander (R) quoted Alex Haley, the author made world-famous for his Pulitzer Prize-winning literary sensation, "Roots." According to The Washington Post, Haley and Alexander were longtime friends. That´s all well and good, but quoting Alex Haley at an important national occasion is not unlike quoting Lance Armstrong. Paris-The United States has started transporting French soldiers and equipment to Mali as part of its logistical aid to French forces fighting Islamist militants in the north of the country, a U.S. official said on Tuesday. Paris has launched a military campaign against Islamist fighters in Mali at the request of the Malian government, amid fears the vast desert country could become a launchpad for international attacks. "We have started air lifting French army personnel and equipment to Bamako from Istres," said Benjamin Benson, a spokesman for U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). Rangel was asked by anchor Thomas Roberts whether new gun control measures passed in New York State should serve as models for other states: “If you’re proud of what New York has done, obviously there is not going to be any perfect policy or perfect law that everybody is going to agree on from both sides saying that this is key perfection

On PBS´s Charlie Rose Monday, the Washington Post´s Bob Woodward made a much different recommendation to President Obama saying, "Sticking your finger in these people’s eye all the time I don´t think will work" (video follows with transcript and commentary): BOB WOODWARD: It´s not just a matter of defending it, and I think Bob Caro is right that Obama feels very strongly about this. Television´s History channel is running an outstanding series about each and every one of our presidents. Nowhere in that has there been evidence of a Chief Executive with less character, lower standards, fewer morals, greater incompetence, a more dangerous socio-political agenda, and yet with increasingly arrogant, personal ambition and ego than those of President Barrack Hussein Obama. My damning allegations have never been better proven, than by Mr. Obama´s current, disgraceful...

Just hours before he died in a terrorist attack at the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Ambassador Chris Stevens sent a cable to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton painting a chaotic, violent portrait of the eastern Libya city and warning that local militias were threatening to pull the security they afforded U.S. officials. Militia leaders told U.S. officials just two days before the attack that they were angered by U.S. support of a particular candidate for Libyan prime minister and warned “they would not continue to guarantee security in Benghazi, a critical function they asserted they were currently providing,”

Only six votes truly matter in the fight over gun control. Five are vulnerable Senate Democrats from deeply red states. The five senators (with Obama 2012 vote percentages) are Mark Begich of Alaska (40.8 percent), Max Baucus of Montana (41.7 percent), Tim Johnson of South Dakota (39.9 percent), Mark Pryor of Arkansas (36.9 percent) and Mary Landrieu of Louisiana (40.6 percent). The NFL has discussed an expansion to the Rooney Rule under which teams would be required to interview minority candidates for vacant coordinator jobs, league sources told ESPN. The NFL expressed its disappointment in a statement after 14 head coach and front-office jobs were filled without one minority being hired. The league indicated changes were being discussed. No decision has been made, but the NFL likely will mandate that teams with returning head coaches include minority interviews for coordinator vacancies, hoping to broaden the pool of potential head-coaching candidates, one source said.

McDonald´s has paid out $700,000 to members of the Muslim community after one of its franchise restaurants in Michigan falsely advertised its food had been prepared according to Islamic dietary laws. A Muslim Detroit resident, Ahmed Ahmed, claimed he bought a chicken sandwich in September 2011 at a Dearborn McDonald´s but found it was not halal - meaning it did not meet Islamic requirements for preparing food. The restaurant is one of two in Dearborn which sells halal products to cater for an area with one of the nation´s largest Arab and Muslim communities. Mr Ahmed then approached lawyer Kassem
