In a conversation with The Hill editor A.B. Stoddard, Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith expressed his frustration with the lack of demand among lawmakers in Washington for new gun control measures. Stoddard observed that there is no consensus in public opinion polling data on gun control, and even less consensus among lawmakers on what new measures to adopt. Smith countered by insisting that had America’s lawmakers relied on polling data alone, “we’d have had slavery a lot longer than we did.” (Snip) Smith noted that President Barack Obama made some promises during the campaign which he must

Paris- Nicolas Sarkozy is preparing to move to London to set up a billion pounds plus investment fund, it was claimed today. If the move goes ahead, the controversial Frenchman will become the latest to escape a potential top tax rate of 75 per cent in his home country. He and his former supermodel third wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy would be likely to settle in an affluent district like South Kensington – so becoming the most high profile Gallic celebrity couple in the city. But the former president is under investigation for corruption in France,

And now president Obama has delivered his locked-and-loaded twenty-three point Executive Order for curing violence in America. Breathless previews predicted the president would call for a 21st Amendment copycat. Instead, Obama pledged to nominate an ATF Director, a position officially vacant but occupied by acting appointees since George W. Bush was in the White House. The One then ordered federal law enforcement to trace ownership of guns used in a crime -- no doubt inspired by "Handgun Crime Rules For Dummies". Twenty-one other air-pistol salutes

President Barack Obama used his second inaugural address Monday to offer an aggressive, unapologetic defense of activist government and to call for a new spirit of unity even as he seeks to move the country even further left. But in celebrating the power of the government to lead the nation forward, Obama breezed past the costs of an ever-growing public sector and made only passing mention of the country’s most urgent problem as he took the oath to lead it: debt. The United States is now $16.4 trillion in debt. We’ve accumulated more than a third of that

After two years of frequent flying and constant campaigning that took him all around the country, President Obama isn´t finished: "You´re going to see the president traveling around the country more," Senior White House Adviser Valerie Jarrett told MSNBC´s "Morning Joe" on Monday, Inauguration Day. Host Joe Scarborough asked Jarrett how President Obama plans to avoid the difficulties that have beset other presidents in their second terms. "Well," replied Jarrett, "you have to stay focused, and you have to develop an agenda that reflects the priorities of the American people. I think the president has done that.

Forty children died in 2011 while under the state’s watch, including five youths who were gunned down, seven who committed suicide and a dozen babies — some sleeping in an adult’s bed — who were deemed victims of sudden and unexpected infant deaths, according to an alarming report one outraged lawmaker called “troubling and frustrating.” The report by the Office of the Child Advocate, the state’s independent watchdog, also shows fatalities among kids under the care of various state agencies, including the Department of Children and Families, are on the rise, jumping from 36 in 2010 and

Golf star Phil Mickelson says he regrets publicly commenting that he may have to leave California over high taxes, saying he should not have spoken out on such a personal topic. In a statement to Fox News late Monday, Mickelson apologized to anyone he may have "upset or insulted" with the comments that his high tax bracket was causing him to consider “drastic changes” in his life, including possibly moving his family out of state and even retiring from the game of golf. "Finances and taxes are a personal matter and I should not have made my opinions

LOS ANGELES — Retired Cardinal Roger Mahony and other top Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles officials maneuvered behind the scenes to shield molester priests, provide damage control for the church and keep parishioners in the dark, according to church personnel files. The confidential records filed in a lawsuit against the archdiocese disclose how the church handled abuse allegations for decades and also reveal dissent from a top Mahony aide who criticized his superiors for covering up allegations of abuse rather than protecting children.

Not many inaugural addresses go down in history books as memorable, especially second inaugural addresses. Despite the incumbent Democrat´s pride in his speechmaking skills, Barack Hussein Obama´s first inaugural speech was memorable in 2009, not for anything he said, but for the fact that an African American was saying it.[Snip] Officials estimated Obama´s inauguration crowd about half the 2009 gathering. Much of the media coverage of Monday´s 2,100-word speech focused on the downright liberal nature of the agenda Obama outlined, although he did not say the words "liberal" or its preferred code word "progressive."

But the environmental advocate has triggered a claws-out backlash with his new anti-feline campaign. Morgan called on his countrymen Tuesday to make their current cat their last in order to save the nation´s unique bird species. He set up a website, called Cats To Go, depicting a tiny kitten with red devil´s horns. The opening line: "That little ball of fluff you own is a natural born killer." He doesn´t recommended people euthanize their current cats --

A pair of federal courts struck down union challenges to labor reforms in Indiana and Wisconsin last week, preserving major Republican gains aimed at cutting costs and attracting business. Federal Judge Philip Simon on Thursday tossed out a lawsuit aimed at preventing Indiana from becoming the first right-to-work state in the Midwest. He rejected the union’s contention that Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels and the legislature overreached in pursuing labor reforms. “None of the legal challenges launched by the union here to attack Indiana’s new Right to Work law can succeed,” he wrote. “The electorate can ultimately decide whether [lawmakers’] judgments

The high-powered weapons that Adam Lanza used in his murderous rampage weren’t routinely locked up in his home even though his mother knew he had serious psychological problems, a close family friend told the Daily News. Investigators are focusing on whether Lanza had a “psychotic break” before he murdered his mother, then shot to death 26 children and staffers at Sandy Hook Elementary School last month, the friend said. Nancy Lanza had brought her son to a psychiatrist and pushed him to get out of the house as he became increasingly antisocial, according to the friend.

Whoever coined the term ´to the victor goes the spoils´ did not have President Barack Obama´s official inauguration party in mind. What a contrast last night´s Inaugural Address was compared to the one President Obama gave four years ago. Gone was any attempt to reach out to his Republican opponents. In its place was an aggressive assertion of modern liberalism, with the emphasis on gay rights, gun control, gender equality, combating climate change and--if his remarks about Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and income inequality are anything to go by--redistributive taxation. This is a fully-fledged socialist agenda that will leave the the 47.2 percent of Americans who didn´t vote for Obama feeling ostracised and angry. If this is going to be the
