CHICAGO - While delivering mail on Chicago´s North Side, Lakesha Dortch-Hardy spoke about how much she loves her job at the U.S. Postal Service, and how much it would hurt if jobs such as hers were to disappear. "These jobs are the middle class ..." said Dortch-Hardy, a tall, energetic 38-year-old, who took long strides as she wheeled her cart along a row of two- and three-story brick apartment houses. "Without this job, I don´t know where I´d be right now." The cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service has eliminated 168,000 jobs since 2006, and more cuts could result

President Barack H. Obama took the oath office and delivered a forgettable, partisan address to the nation. He offered no solutions to the nation’s pressing debt problem, because he does not have one. Instead, he offered an MC Hammer take on entitlement spending: You can’t touch this. The commitments we make to each other – through Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security – these things do not sap our initiative; they strengthen us. They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great.

Fox’s Brit Hume: Obama’s Speech

Fox News Channel contributor Brit Hume weighed in with his thoughts on the major themes of President Barack Obama’s second inaugural address. Hume said that Obama’s speech should “put to rest” the notion spread by some of the president’s supporters that he is a moderate. “He’s an out and out liberal,” Hume said. He went on to predict that Obama’s speech heralds a new era of contentiousness in Washington that some hoped would abate in the president’s second term. The Spaniards already boast some of the weirdest festivals in the world, such as the bull running of Pamplona and the world’s biggest tomato fight, but this one definitely tops the list. The annual Jarramplas Festival in Piornal involves hundreds of villagers attacking a man dressed in a devils mask with 15,000 turnips. The best part? No-one really knows why. A young man from the village is selected to be the 'Jarramplas' - the scape goat - and dresses up in a costume made from colourful strips of fabric, donning a devil-like mask with great horns and nose.

Following President Obama’s second inaugural address, Fox News analyst Charles Krauthammer called the speech an “amazing” one which rebuked the limited government beliefs of the Reagan era and served as the president’s “ode to big government.” “I thought it was an amazing speech, and historically very important,” Krauthammer began. “This this was really Obama unbound. And I think what’s most interesting is that Obama basically is declaring the end of Reaganism in this speech.” During his 1981 inaugural speech, President Ronald Reagan famously declared that government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem. “

Why is it a crime for a bloke (and an older bloke) to have an opinion these days which isn´t consistent with the noisy social media brigade? Particularly if it is regarding a subject which dares to broach family issues. The venom associated with my comments on breastfeeding has been extraordinary. From being called a buffoon with discriminatory views by the Fairfax Media critic Michael Idato, to being accused of hating kids, being jealous of babies and having a boob fetish. But maybe my views are more representative than the social media critics would have you believe.

Following President Obama‘s inauguration ceremony, Fox News’ panel of Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier, Chris Wallace, and Brit Hume reacted largely by pointing out the president’s outward stating of left-leaning goals for a second term, calling the speech a “call to arms for the liberal agenda.” Hume began by noting that the president largely avoided the issues that determined the re-election campaign, and took special notice of how the president claimed “a recovery has begun” four years after first taking office. “What did he say in the speech today that said ‘I have a plan or new ideas

It’s chilly on the Capitol steps today, but that’s no problem for Mitt Romney. The former Republican presidential contender is spending Inauguration Day at his home in La Jolla, Calif., where it’s sunny with a forecasted high of 73 degrees. An aide told NBC News that the former Massachusetts governor and his wife have "no big plans." Asked if the governor was likely to watch the inaugural ceremonies today, the aide said, "Doubtful." It’s not surprising that Romney is keeping himself far from the fanfare and tri-color bunting; he’s kept a low profile since losing the election in November.

Anderson Cooper, Gloria Borger, Dana Bash, David Gergen, etc. not only couldn’t bring themselves to criticize anything in Barack Obama´s Inaugural speech (really, he´s going to make hard choices to reduce the deficit and health care costs?), but after a good half-hour of post-speech analysis, the gushing became nauseating. And what won CNN´s hearts? Well, what always and so easily wins over this simplistic crowd: identity politics. It doesn’t matter to the media that during Obama´s first term, eight million people have given up looking for work, unemployment´s still as high as it was before we wasted

Many in the crowd – perhaps thinking there was another big screen on the south side of the monument – trudged that way only to find nothing,

LOS ANGELES — A joke about God says that he created the world in six days, and spent the seventh say wondering how he did it. President Barack Obama reached godlike status for saving the world, yet those worshiping him still cannot articulate what he actually did or how he did it. On January 21st, 2013, Obama celebrates his second inauguration. Based on his behavior, this is day 1,461 of his first inauguration. His entire life is a celebration of himself. Nevertheless, he somehow found the will to take time out from relaxing to praise himself publicly

It was like watching the woman you love marrying the wrong man. Obama’s second inaugural was far from the unifying speech that we were promised but instead a declaration of (continued) war on the conservative movement and a rallying cry for liberals. Does the President not realise that he won the 2012 election and doesn’t have to carry on campaigning? Or did someone load up an old draft of his convention speech in to the autocue by mistake?[Snip] You can see where all this is leading. It begins with an "s" and ends with "ism".

Fewer Americas are working today than when Mr. Obama took the oath of office four years ago. The unemployment rate is higher. Barack Obama is perhaps the only modern president who has had the burden of swatting away comparisons between his own soaring rhetoric and that of our 16th president. You may recall that, in the wake of the Newtown massacre, Pulitzer-prize winning reporter David Maraniss gushed over the president’s remarks, writing, “People will long remember what Barack Obama said in Newtown,” and calling the speech “[Obama´s] Gettysburg address.” Today, thanks to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, it took less than five minutes for the comparison to be drawn between President Obama’s 2nd Inaugural address

According to Tom Ricks at Foreign Policy, the Obama administration is pushing out celebrated Marine General Mattis from CENTCOM early because of internal battles over the White House’s Middle East strategy: Why the hurry? Pentagon insiders say that he rubbed civilian officials the wrong way — not because he went all “mad dog,” which is his public image, and the view at the White House, but rather because he pushed the civilians so hard on considering the second- and third-order consequences of military action against Iran. Some of those questions apparently were uncomfortable.
