President Barack Obama was sworn into his second term of office on Sunday at noon in front of only his wife and two daughters in a simple service. The quick swearing in took place on Sunday in keeping with the laws states in the Constitution which states that Presidents´ terms begin at noon on January 20. Normally the oath of office is given on the steps of the Capitol and is followed by his address to the nation, but because this year it happens to fall on a Sunday- and inaugurations are never held that day of

Cowboy boots peered out from under all the sequins and shimmer at the Texas State Society´s immensely popular Black Tie and Boots inaugural ball Saturday night at the Gaylord National Resort on the Potomac near Washington D.C. The ball´s many rooms were filled with Texans of every variety, including U.S. Reps Kevin Brady and Sheila Jackson Lee, TSU President John Rudley, singer Yolanda Adams, the Kilgore College Rangerettes and perhaps the most famous "cowboy" today, actor Jamie Foxx, who introduced singer Charley Pride.

Could the Feds potentially use your prescription drug history to curtail your Second Amendment rights? In the wake of President Obama’s list of 23 executive orders — saying “If there’s even one thing that we can do to reduce this violence…” — the potential exists for the Department of Justice to use Federal drug databases to screen for “mental illnesses.” While the idea may sound far-fetched, state and federal agencies already cooperate to share information about your history of prescription drug use, including the use of medications for “psychiatric disorders.” Your doctor, your pharmacist, and your local emergency

The Algerian government has been defending it’s tactics in dealing with the terrorists who attacked a gas complex and took dozens of westerners hostage by saying that the al-Qaeda offshoot holding the prisoners left them little choice when they began to execute the innocent. The Daily Telegraph has confirmed that nine Japanese hostages were executed by the terrorists, and British foreign secretary William Hague said that seven more hostages were probably executed just prior to the final assault: Hague added that suggestions seven of the hostages had been “executed” by their captors prior

For President Obama’s second inaugural, we’re just going through the motions. (Snip)That messiah never came, and a sluggish economic recovery overshadowed his term. Obama was reelected less because he inspired the nation than because he discredited his opponent. Most Americans still think that the country is headed in the wrong direction, and just one in five trust their government to do the right thing. Much of this says less about Obama than about the times. But the president manages to make his own presidency seem smaller by his frequent invocations of our greatest president.

The expiration of a temporary break in Social Security withholdings means paychecks have shrunk, which experts say could have a chilling effect on consumer spending. In the debate over the “fiscal cliff,” Congress allowed the cut to expire, causing Social Security taxes to return to 6.2 percent from the 4.2 percent Americans were paying over the past two years. The expiration of the tax break means the average household will have $18 to $20 less each week, or $900 to $1,000 less each year, said Roberton Williams, a tax economist and

Thousands rallied across the nation yesterday in support of Second Amendment rights, and conservatives were reminded that Barack Obama’s second term presents a unique opportunity to rebuild. Our principles of individual liberty and constitutional government may be a minority creed, but they are still the best principles to have. Even liberals find them compelling--when they are not hypnotized by the Obama cult of personality. The conservative movement should aim high. Its long-term political goal

KABUL, Afghanistan — The United Nations said Sunday that Afghan authorities were still torturing prisoners, such as hanging them by their wrists and beating them with cables, a year after the U.N. first documented the abuse and the Afghan government promised detention reform. The report shows little progress in curbing abuse in Afghan prisons despite a year of effort by the U.N. and international military forces in Afghanistan. The report also cites instances where Afghan authorities have tried to hide mistreatment from U.N. monitors. The slow progress on prison reform has prompted NATO forces to once again stop

The radical leftists who have staffed up the legacy media are losing all pretenses of being neutral reporters, and coming out of the closet as rabid partisans lately. It is one thing to openly swoon over Barack Obama at off-the-record events, which keeps the general public out of the loop, while priovately reaffirming media solidarity as partisans. But it is quite something else to put one´s name on a publication which argues for delegitimizing opposition to the Anointed One. That is exactly what CBS News political director John Dickerson has done in Slate:

As NewsBusters reported Friday, Newsweek magazine´s newest cover touts Barack Obama´s upcoming inauguration as "The Second Coming." Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank apparently doesn´t agree, and wrote about the President´s first term Friday the "messiah never came." "Monday’s phony ceremony on the West Front of the Capitol contributes to the overall letdown that is this 2013 inauguration," said Milbank. "For all the grand preparations, the moment feels small." "Four years ago, hundreds of thousands of people flooded the capital, sleeping on floors and lining the streets so that they could be part

In 1994, the GOP won an historic landslide and swept the Democrats in Congress from power. The victory was due, in large part, to a recent assault weapons ban that had been enacted. No doubt with this in mind, former President Bill Clinton last night warned top Democrat donors not to be dismissive of those who believe in gun rights. “Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them,” Clinton said. “A lot of these people live in a world very different

Today on ABC’s This Week, after Rick Santorum explained that Americans are protective of their right to buy guns because they “want to feel safe,” former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm offered a reassuring sentiment: Americans needn’t worry about protecting themselves, because they have President Obama, and “he sees himself as protector-in-chief.” Granholm explained that she sees Obama as also applying this philosophy of president-as-palladium to foreign policy — perhaps a more sensible concept.

Speaking of today´s NFL playoffs and Colin Kaepernick´s sizzling San Francisco 49ers, take a look at this recent solar flare -- from our safe winter distance of about 95 million miles. This plasma eruption is a minor one, as solar flares go. It only shot out about 160,000 miles before the Sun´s gravity pulled most of the million-degree burning material back onboard. Our Sun seems plenty big from the viewpoint of Earth.

Washington—As the uprising closed in around him, the Libyan dictator Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi warned that if he fell, chaos and holy war would overtake North Africa. “Bin Laden’s people would come to impose ransoms by land and sea,” he told reporters. “We will go back to the time of Redbeard, of pirates, of Ottomans imposing ransoms on boats.” In recent days, that unhinged prophecy has acquired a grim new currency. In Mali, French paratroopers arrived this month to battle an advancing force of jihadi fighters who already control an area twice the size of Germany.

By some of the most important measures of social progress, black and Latino residents of Colorado have lost ground compared with white residents in the decades since the civil-rights movement. Minority gains made during the 1960s and 1970s have eroded with time, an I-News Network analysis of six decades of demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau found. In other categories, the gaps between whites and minorities have steadily widened since 1960.

Newark — The painting that caused such a ruckus at the Newark Public Library is uncovered again, viewable by all, and the controversy around it gone. You may remember a column last month about several staff members up in arms because they didn’t think the art was appropriate. They made such a fuss that it was covered up a day after being hung in the second-floor reference room. The huge drawing was done by Kara Walker, a renowned African-American artist whose themes deal with race, gender, sexuality and violence. This piece shows the horrors of reconstruction, 20th-century Jim Crowism

JERUSALEM -- It´s no secret that President Obama doesn´t see eye to eye with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Obama and Netanyahu, who is up for re-election for a second term Tuesday, disagree on major issues such as Jewish settlements and how to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. The president´s frustration with Netanyahu was underscored this week when Jeffrey Goldberg, a U.S. columnist, reported that Obama has "privately and repeatedly" said to confidants that Israel " ´doesn´t know what its own best interests are.´ " There was a time when a poor relationship

As debates about guns and gun rights in America rage, truly to understand the gun, one needs to look at its history. The story of the gun is a fascinating and riveting look not only at history, but also at science, business, politics, justice, and morality. Throw in a great deal of ingenuity, a good deal of heroism, and a small dose of romance, and the story of the gun is the world´s greatest tale of human invention.
