Four British hostages have appeared on Algerian state television after they were freed from the oil refinery where up to 12 others are feared dead or injured after a bungled rescue mission. The men looked well and praised the operation by Algerian forces, saying:´I think they did a fantastic job. I was very impressed with the Algerian army. It was a very exciting episode. I feel sorry for anybody who has been hurt but, other than that, I enjoyed it´. It is not known if they were coerced. David Cameron has sent in special forces and specialist hostage negotiators

New York Passed a Gun Control Law

Earlier this week, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo rushed to sign sweeping and extremely restrictive gun control legislation into law. Negotiations were made behind closed doors in the middle of the night, debate was rushed, public input was ignored and the votes were taken. The legislation that was passed only allows New York residents to carry seven bullets in a maximum ten round magazine at a time and requires gun registration. The problem? Cuomo didn´t read the bill and failed to notice legislators forgot to exempt law enforcement.

Tax dollars for gun control

The directives on gun violence President Obama signed Wednesday were meant to seem harmless. A closer look at the president’s first memorandum reveals it to be a sneaky assault on congressional authority in order to fund gun-control propaganda. Getting this done has been on the White House “to do” list for some time. In his 2013 budget submission, Mr. Obama deleted the prohibition that has been in effect since 1995 on the use of federal funds to advocate or promote gun control. Mr. Obama is trying to steamroll the Democratic and Republican majorities that kept the ban intact by

Attorney General Eric Holder and his Department of Justice have asked a federal court to indefinitely delay a lawsuit brought by watchdog group Judicial Watch. The lawsuit seeks the enforcement of open records requests relating to Operation Fast and Furious, as required by law. Judicial Watch had filed, on June 22, 2012, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking all documents relating to Operation Fast and Furious and “specifically [a]ll records subject to the claim of executive privilege invoked by President Barack Obama on or about June 20, 2012.”

It seems that Hillary is not the only Clinton to be in the wars lately as daughter Chelsea stepped out with a plaster on her leg. But despite the unsightly fashion faux-pas,Chelsea was all smiles in New York yesterday after speaking about mother and U.S. Secretary of State, who was hospitalised earlier this month when doctors detected a blood clot in her head during a routine checkup. The spotlight has been on the 32-year-old from New York following rumours that she may be considering moving into politics after accepting the role of honorary chair

Editor’s Note: From today through the Inauguration, Breitbart News will bring readers a preview of President Barack Obama’s second term--his policies, his appointees, and his goals--as well as the conservative agenda for opposition, in Washington and beyond. It ought to be clear what President Barack Obama’s second term will bring. In the 2012 election, both Republicans and Democrats agreed that the country faced a clear choice between two alternatives. The GOP ticket advocated a return to the constitution’s vision of a society of free individuals, and the Obama campaign offered a vision of cradle-to-grave

Organic supermarket chain Whole Foods is facing a backlash from many of it’s more liberal customers after founder and CEO John Mackey compared Obamacare to ‘fascism’ in a radio interview on Wednesday. In an interview to promote his new book, Mackey was quizzed about an article he had written in The Wall Street Journal in 2009 that liken Obamacare to socialism. ‘Technically speaking, it´s more like fascism,’ Mackey told NPR. ‘Socialism is where the government owns the means of production. In fascism, the government doesn´t own the means of production but they do control it. And that´s what´s happening

Last night, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey went “On the Record” to discuss Obamacare, which he recently referred to as “more like fascism” than socialism. He received an angry backlash from many Whole Foods customers after the comment and is now apologizing for his “poor choice of words.” He told Greta Van Susteren that he did not fully realize the “emotional baggage” that goes with the term “fascism,” but further explained his opposition to the health care law, saying it’s the opposite of “free enterprise capitalism.”

As the First Lady´s office unveiled her new Twitter identity this afternoon, @FLOTUS, the second tweet revealed her new blunt bob, with heavy bangs. Dressed in a burnt-red, elbow-sleeved patterned jersey dress, the 49-year-old showed off her new hairstyle, reminiscent of Katie Holmes´ chop in 2008, when she met with Inaugural citizen co-chair David Hall earlier today. Washington — People with severe food allergies have a new tool in their attempt to find menus that fit their diet: federal disabilities law. And that could leave schools, restaurants and anyplace else that serves food more vulnerable to legal challenges over food sensitivities. A settlement stemming from a lack of gluten-free foods available to students at a Massachusetts university could serve as a precedent for people with other allergies or conditions, including peanut sensitivities or diabetes. Institutions and businesses subject to the Americans With Disabilities Act could be open to lawsuits if they fail to honor requests for accommodations

After Obama finished announcing 23 executive orders aimed at guns on Jan. 16, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rep. Tim HuelsKamp (R-Kas.), and Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus lined up to criticize what they saw as a straightforward assault on liberty. Rubio, for his part, promised he will "oppose the president´s attempt to undermine Americans´ constitutional right to bear arms." And Huelskamp criticized what he sees as Obama´s "consolidation of power" and overall "disdain" for the Second Amendment. Priebus also focused on what he saw as "power grab" which did nothing to reduce the

WASHINGTON — In an unprecedented move, President Barack Obama´s vaunted political organization is being turned into a nonprofit group — funded in part by corporate money — to mobilize support behind the president´s second-term agenda. Democratic officials familiar with the plan said Thursday the tax-exempt organization will be called Organizing for Action and seek to harness the energy of the president´s re-election campaign for future legislative fights. Officials said the group will be separate from the Democratic National Committee and advocate on key policy issues such as gun control and immigration,

The simplest statements sometimes are the most insightful. For an example, consider this one on Wednesday from Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, in reaction to President Obama´s gun-control proposals: "I would welcome the opportunity to debate these issues on the floor of the Senate, and would encourage Majority Leader [Harry] Reid to schedule a full and open debate." In these seemingly innocuous words are a key to GOP revival. Corpus Christi resident Mark Cobb was among those working at the site that was attacked, according to a source close to Cobb who did want to be identified out of concern for safety. Some Republicans were quick to denounce President Obama´s plan to bypass Congress and use his executive powers to institute gun violence proposals. But most of the GOP has been conspicuously silent on the matter, and constitutional scholars have concluded that the president is acting within the law. "I was actually pleasantly surprised that Obama did not try to legislate by executive order," said Ilya Shapiro, a constitutional scholar at the libertarian Cato Institute. Obama rolled out a series of gun control measures Wednesday, including a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammo clips,

The morning after the presidential election, I quoted Eric Hoffer’s line that, “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.” And then I wrote this: “It’s time for conservative talking heads — many of whom misled their readers and audiences these last few weeks — to think more about the future of conservatism than about their personal popularity.” (Even before the election, I had been worried about this trend — as evidenced by another column, “A GOP running on empty.”)

What, the fictional President - in full Rodney King mode - asks, do you invaders want us earthlings to do so that our two peoples can live together in peace? The answer, of course, is famous. "Die." That´s pretty much President Obama´s position to the Republicans - especially the GOP majority in the House of Representatives. In a penetrating analysis today in Washington Free Beacon, Matthew Continetti writes of how "a president known for his passivity and cool...displayed enormous and impressive energy
