Today on MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell brings up the controversial Web promotion by the National Rifle Association (NRA) accusing President Obama of hypocrisy for opposing the arming of schools when his children study under the watchful eye of guards packing heat. Digging into the issue with Gun Owners of America spokesman Erich Pratt, Mitchell presses: Let me ask you about the NRA video … which targets basically the president’s children, who have Secret Service protection as [do] all children of presidents. Over the line? No, comes the response from Pratt, though in many more, meandering words.

The finance student who penned what is being called the ´best cover letter ever´ that took the internet by storm is set to be rewarded for his honesty as Wall Street bosses said today ´he is just the person they are looking for´. Matthew Ross, a 22-year-old undergrad at San Diego State University, sent a refreshingly sincere cover letter by email yesterday that went viral. Rather than inflating his qualifications and bragging about his grades or past job experiences, the humble applicant simply stated his case and matter-of-factly asked for an internship - even if it meant shining shoes.

An Al Qaeda-linked group has attacked and taken control of a natural gas field partly owned by BP in southern Algeria, taking at least three Americans hostage, a senior intelligence official tells Fox News. A group called the Katibat Moulathamine, or the Masked Brigade, called a Mauritanian news outlet to say one of its subsidiaries had carried out the operation on the Ain Amenas gas field, taking 41 hostages from nine or 10 different nationalities. They claim they are holding seven Americans. The group´s claim could not be independently substantiated and typically there would be fewer than 20 foreign staff members

President Barack Obama, who earlier today offered several gun control measures, is currently attending what appears to be the good-bye party for departing Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Via the pool report: POTUS, who says he likes a good party, heard there might be one next door at the Treasury this afternoon for his Cabinet BFF, Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, whose last week is next week. So at about 4 pm, the pool gathered at the Treasury door directly across from the East Wing to watch as Mr. Obama walked over. But while we waited in the gray, wet chill,

President Obama signed 23 executive actions to curb gun violence during an event at the White House today, but MSNBC’s Chuck Todd told Andrea Mitchell shortly after that “this wasn’t a simple policy roll-out.” Todd went on to explain that “this was the launch of an emotional campaign, this was an emotional president, and he was using any possible tool he could have in order to try to launch a campaign” for gun safety legislation. By surrounding himself with children who had written letters to the White House urging action on guns and invoking the memory

In 1999, State Senator Barack Obama voted “present” on a bill that would require adult prosecution for discharging a gun in or near a school. That legislation came as a response to the tragic Columbine High School shooting that year. SB 759 provided that anyone 15 years of age or older charged with aggravated battery with a weapon in school or within 1,000 feet of a school would be charged as an adult. It passed the Illinois State Senate in a 52-1 vote, with 5 members voting present — including Obama.

Capitol Hill sources familiar with Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told Human Events that the senator will immediately introduce legislation to declare null and void any Executive Order issued by President Barack Obama that infringes on the powers and duties of Congress and the Second Amendment. One troubling Executive Order announced Jan. 16 by the president was No. 16 on the list, described in a White House press release to “clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.” The actual phrasing of the release states: Protect the rights

To tell the story of Manti Te´o, Notre Dame´s star linebacker, one must discuss his inspirational play in this September´s win over Michigan State. Just days after the death of his grandmother and his girlfriend, Te´o racked up 12 tackles and recovered a fumble in a 20-3 victory over the Spartans. The following Saturday, after Lennay Kekua´s funeral, Te´o made two interceptions in a 13-6 victory over Michigan. In articles in Sports Illustrated and the South Bend Tribune and in interviews on ESPN, Te'o would recount how his girlfriend, Kekua, requested that he send white flowers to her funeral.

On Wednesday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto,” conservative talk show host Mark Levin said President Barack Obama’s executive actions to curb gun violence, which were announced during a Wednesday press event, are as “un-American” and “fascistic” as they are unhelpful. “What do any of these 23 [executive actions] have to do with what happened in Newtown? I’ve studied all 23 of them now. They have absolutely nothing to do with the mass murder that took place in Connecticut — zero. And the president won’t be asked about it. I have gone through

A limit on magazine capacity is emerging as a leading contender for the something that supposedly must be done in response to last month´s massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. A ban on "large-capacity ammunition feeding devices" is one of the new gun restrictions approved by the New York legislature this week and one of the measures President Obama wants Congress to enact. The rationale for such limits is that mass murderers need "large-capacity" magazines, while law-abiding citizens don´t. Both premises are questionable, and so is the notion that politicians should be the arbiters of necessity

A conservative activist group is suing the White House’s gun violence task force in an effort to block a sweeping set of new restrictions on firearms to be unveiled Wednesday. FreedomWatch, founded by attorney Larry Klayman, argues that the task force held illegal meetings with lobbyists and did not give proper public notice. The group filed a lawsuit in a Florida federal court, seeking to shut down the task force and block any of its proposals from implementation. “President Obama and Vice President Biden have thumbed their nose at the law and instead been holding closed door

RUSH: It´s all an exploitation of a very tragic and sad event. In this case, it´s Sandy Hook. It could be a hurricane, but Sandy Hook, this is the starting point for this, and it´s simply the excuse for the left to do everything they can to implement more and more of their nirvana or utopian agenda, like health care was, Obamacare was. WINDBER, Pa. — A southwestern Pennsylvania hospital will stop delivering babies after March 31 because its obstetricians are either leaving or refocusing their practices, and because hospital officials believe they can´t afford it based on projected reimbursements under looming federal health care reforms. The Windber Medical Center, about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, is losing two obstetricians and two others are shifting their focus more to gynecology. Hospital officials say the population of women of child-bearing age is dropping and that the number of births the hospital would be called upon to

Quick draw Republicans in Congress, intent on stopping any gun-control proposal from the Obama White House, are way off target when they accuse the president of violating gun ownership rights under the Constitution. Gun control is completely consistent with the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. And President Obama is on target with the great American tradition of proposing gun control laws for Congressional approval as well as by issuing executive orders on gun control. The only opinion that matters here is the Supreme Court’s opinion. And the high court has ruled, several times,

In the midst of 44 lawsuits challenging the Obama administration’s mandate that every employer cover the cost of abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception, President Barack Obama issued a religious freedom proclamation on Wednesday. The proclamation begins by saying, “Foremost among the rights Americans hold sacred is the freedom to worship as we choose.” But it does not talk about the free practice of religion, which plaintiffs are fighting to defend in litigation across the country. “Because of the protections guaranteed by our Constitution, each of us has the right to practice our faith openly and as we choose,”

Johnson suggested that NRA opposition to Obama’s gun control policies was personal. CNSNews.com then asked Johnson, "You said just a minute ago that part of the NRA´s true colors was a personal dislike of the president. Why do you think that is?" Rep. Johnson said, "First of all, he is a black.
