A former Warren John F. Boston attorney Mitchell Garabedian said Wednesday he negotiated settlements for 11 men who attended JFK High from 1986-1990 that claimed Brother Stephen P. Baker, a baseball coach, religion teacher and athletic trainer during his tenure at JFK, molested.

Bob Schieffer somehow topped Chris Matthews during CBS News´s special coverage of President Obama´s gun control press conference on Wednesday, as he became the worst caricature of a foaming-at-the-mouth cheerleader for the chief executive. Schieffer lauded "one of the best speeches I´ve ever heard him [Obama] deliver", and compared Obama´s new gun control agenda to Lyndon Johnson´s push for civil rights legislation in the 1960s. The CBS veteran even went so far to liken the President´s cause to the ten-year hunt for 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden and the difficult endeavor of winning World War II:

According to a background briefer provided by the White House, President Barack Obama is asking doctors to help deal with guns. Here´s the relevant passage: PRESERVE THE RIGHTS OF HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS TO PROTECT THEIR PATIENTS AND COMMUNITIES FROM GUN VIOLENCE: We should never ask doctors and other health care providers to turn a blind eye to the risks posed by guns in the wrong hands. It’s no secret that Fox News is not Barack Obama’s favorite news channel. In his first year, the White House more or less declared war on Fox, suspending its strategy only when other media outlets began to publicly criticize Obama for it, blocking the White House attempt to freeze Fox out of coverage. They may have relented publicly on the deep freeze, but a new study by the University of Minnesota’s Eric Ostermeier suggests that the Obama administration has quietly imposed a big chill on Fox instead: Over the course of the president’s first term,

It is an article of faith that closing the “gun-show loophole” would make America a safer place. But that is what it is: faith. In 2008, three criminologists (one of them not at all friendly to guns) studied the effects on murder and suicide rates in California (which prohibits private sales without a background check) and Texas (which does not). They looked at homicide and suicide rates for adjacent ZIP codes for a week after gun shows. They found no change in suicide rates, and in Texas, which has no restrictions on private party sales,

The White House announced today that President Barack Obama will take 23 "executive actions" to deal with guns. The "executive actions," as introduced and written by the White House, are: 1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. 2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. 3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system. 4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals

A heinous beatdown in the heart of Greenwich Village has left a Massachusetts man fighting for his life. Kevin McCarron, 24, was bashed with a tire iron, baseball bat and blackjack and stomped repeatedly by a gang of toughs in the middle of MacDougal St. early Sunday, police and witnesses said. Cops on Monday busted 24-year-old Hatem Farsakh of Brooklyn, who was arraigned on charges of attempted murder and assault. Blackbaud Inc. laid off 150 employees today, including about 50 workers at the software company’s Daniel Island headquarters. A company spokeswoman said the job cuts stem from the still-sluggish economy and Blackbaud’s acquisition last year of Convio, a former competitor based in Texas. Convio’s legacy business has not performed as expected. Karoline McLaughlin, the spokeswoman, said the cuts are spread across the company’s offices, but only “a handful” of positions were cut at Convio’s former headquarters in Austin. [Snip] Following the cuts, Blackbaud will have about 2,600 employees. About 1,150 work on Daniel Island.

Mark Sanford, the three-term congressman and two-term South Carolina governor, is preparing his political comeback, running for the House in the district recently represented by Tim Scott. Sanford garnered national headlines in 2009 as the first governor to turn down President Obama’s stimulus funds — and then made even bigger headlines later in the year when it was revealed that he had departed the state to fly to Argentina to meet with his mistress. A messy divorce followed; a state legislative ad hoc committee voted to censure but not impeach him. He served out the remainder of his term,
