The White House has informed House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) that it will miss the legal deadline for sending a budget to Congress. Acting Budget Director Jeff Zients told Ryan (R-Wis.) late Friday that the budget will not be delivered by Feb. 4, as required by law, a House aide said. “Late Friday evening, Deputy Director Zients confirmed that for the fourth time in five years, the president’s budget will not be submitted in compliance with the law,” the aide said. “Zients did not indicate how late the administration will delay its submission, simply noting

A former student recently emailed that she was disappointed that I had gotten so heavily involved with the student pro-life movement in recent years. She said she could remember a time when I had a love for defending free speech rights. Her email was somewhat unfair as I am still defending First Amendment rights (did she read my last column?). Also, I have been involved in pro-life advocacy since I became a columnist in 2002. In fact, my very first published column was on the topic of abortion.

School districts in Texas are using tracking chips to spy on students. That’s just fine with a federal judge who ruled Tuesday against Andrea Hernandez, a 15-year-old high school sophomore in San Antonio. (Snip) Like a growing number of institutions around the country, Northside Independent School District forces students to wear photo identification cards around their necks at all times. Cameras also watch the every move of pupils as they roam the halls and use the playgrounds. The high school Miss Hernandez attends took the logical next step by requiring students to carry “Smart IDs”

During a press conference in the White House on Monday, President Barack Obama warned Congressional Republicans not to hold the debt ceiling limit hostage in order to secure concessions on spending cuts from the White House. He spelled out what not increasing the debt limit would mean, and said clearly that the GOP in Congress “will not collect a ransom” from the president by holding the debt ceiling hostage. (Snip) “If Congressional Republicans refused to pay America’s bills on time, Social Security checks and veterans’ benefits will be delayed,” Obama said. “We might not be able

The Air Force is canceling all nonessential travel, conferences and research and is cutting its budget for base maintenance in half to deal with the threat of drastic, automatic spending cuts due to begin March 1, the service’s chiefs say. In addition, the Air Force will have to slash its flying hours by 18 percent and its aircraft maintenance by 17 percent if the spending cuts occur, Air Force Secretary Michael B. Donley and Gen. Mark A. Welsh III, the service’s chief of staff, state in a Jan. 7 memo. The Washington Times has obtained a copy of the memo, which first was reported by

A man who federal agents say is a main character in the infamous unsolved mystery about the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa is breaking his silence after decades of refusing to answer questions. The reputed gangster says the union leader was buried in a field in suburban Detroit -- about 20 miles north of the restaurant where he was last seen. Eighty-five years old and barely able to walk, Tony Zerilli never thought this day would come. “I’m dead broke. I got no money,” Zerilli told NBC 4 New York. “My quality of life is zero.”

President Obama’s health care adviser during the Obamacare debate admitted that health insurance rates are rising in anticipation of the implementation of the health care law, but argued that it’s because the law will lower rates later. “[It´s] in anticipation of 2014 and the fact that we’re going to have real competition in the exchanges and rates are going to come down,” Dr. Zeke Emanuel, former White House health care adviser and brother of former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, said on Morning Joe when asked why insurance rates are rising as much as 25 percent.

Maryland´s largest teachers union wants school employees who aren´t members of a union to pay union fees. Del. Sheila Hixson, D-Montgomery County, will introduce a bill on behalf of the Maryland State Education Association to require nonunion educators to pay a so-called fair share fee to unions equivalent to about 68 percent of the local dues. Under Maryland law, local teachers unions are required to negotiate contracts that cover all educators, whether or not they are members of the union. They also must represent nonunion educators in grievances. Association spokesman Adam Mendelson said the bill wouldn´t

Former President Bill Clinton made a surprise appearance at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards to introduce Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln,” which was nominated for best dramatic film. Clinton received a raucous standing ovation from those attending the awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “A tough fight to push a bill through a bitterly divided House of Representatives. Winning it required the president to make a lot of unsavory deals that had nothing to do with the big issue,” Clinton said. “I wouldn’t know anything about that,” Clinton added, eliciting laughter from the crowd.

Sometimes it’s better to tell a story backwards, from end to beginning. This story ends on December 10, 2012, when President Obama traveled to Michigan—a state with unemployment over 9 percent. He made a stop in Detroit, Michigan’s largest city, which is bankrupt. There, Obama made the ironic boast: “You only have to look to Michigan where workers were instrumental in reviving the auto industry to see how unions have helped build not just a stronger middle class but a stronger America.” Of course, the auto industry, like much of the rest of Detroit,

This is the moment a gunman was caught on CCTV just seconds before shooting a taxi driver. The bearded man jumped into the back of a-cab in the Bronx area of New York in the early hours of Sunday, police have said. He then pulled out a gun and threatened driver Raphael Martinez, 54, in his cab around 5.10am when the driver did not understand his demands. The attack was captured on the in-car security cameras. According to the New York Post, police said he shot at the cab driver five times, hitting him twice, before waiting until

It is more than 50 years since President Eisenhower destroyed a British prime minister, Anthony Eden, when he pulled the plug on the Anglo-French invasion of Suez in 1956. It may turn out that a few carefully chosen words in an on-the-record briefing in London on Wednesday from US assistant secretary Philip Gordon have an equally dramatic effect. One thing is certain. Mr Gordon has contemptuously smashed the foundation myth of the modern Tory party: namely, that somehow, out there, exists an “anglosphere”, a zone of common values that unites the English-speaking peoples, and in particular the US and

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) plans to introduce (or has already introduced) gun-control legislation in the 113th Congress, ostensibly to protect the lives of children, and to curb mass murders, like the one that occurred in Newtown, CT. At the same time, Feinstein is very pro-choice and supports taxpayer funding for abortions. She opposes bans on partial-birth abortion. She has spoken about the constitutional right to an abortion and, in 2003, on the Senate floor, spoke in support of Roe v Wade. She, in 2005, opposed the Unborn Victims of Violence Act. snip

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Who can seize the rapt attention of a room full of A-list movie and TV stars? Try a former U.S. president. Liberals really amaze me. In an interview with Vulture Friday, Girls star Lena Dunham actually compared Republicans to Nazis. When asked why her new love interest in the second season is a Republican, Dunham replied, "We liked the idea of a Republican entering their universe. And Hannah doesn’t really have a clear sense of why you shouldn’t date a Republican; it’s kind of just like the same reason why you shouldn’t date a Nazi: You just shouldn’t." The interviewer then asked, "Wait, so your position is that you shouldn’t date a Republican?"

A parasite has insidiously invaded the body of America. It has fed and grown large on nutrients from government handouts and now is enervating its host, our capitalist system. Since our president entered the White House in January 2009 through September of this year 5.9 million people have been added to the SSDI or Social Security Disability program. That compares with less than 2.5 million jobs created during the same period. According to Social Security Administration data, currently including spouses and children, SSDI rolls have swollen to a bloated 10.9 million.

Our elected leaders had to raise taxes. That was what we were told by the leftist-in-chief Barack Obama and Democrats in the fiscal cliff negotiations. President Obama said the hikes were needed to ensure that wealthy Americans pay their “fair share.” Obama’s tax increases amount to about 60 billion dollars a year. So what are we to do about the remaining annual trillion dollar deficit left from Washington’s unprecedented spending? Mr. Obama and his Democrats don’t have as much clarity on spending cuts as they did on raising taxes.

There are no gun shops in Chicago, so they say, but murders are on pace to hit 730 for 2013. Guns are usually the weapons that the killers choose to use. Two teenaged boys were murdered over the weekend, and guns were the weapons used by the killers. One victim, 14-year-old Rey Dorantes, was reportedly shot will sitting on the front porch of his home. 15-year-old Victor Vega was reportedly walking with another male when they were approached by an armed may who opened fire, killing Vega. In separate incidents, four other people were wounded via gunfire, and all

Ben Shapiro’s satisfying dismantling of Piers Morgan on CNN over the issue of gun control has been getting some of the plaudits it deserves. Morgan is, as Ben says, a bully of the first water, a man whose delight in mud slinging was too much even for the bottom-feeding British tabloid the Daily Mirror, which fired him for publishing fake photos of British soldiers supposedly abusing Iraqi prisoners. McCarron´s girlfriend, a former Miss Alabama, was beautiful. Sue Carter, a professor of journalism at Michigan State, told the The New York Times it was "extraordinarily inappropriate to focus on an individual´s looks," and that Musburger´s comments were a "major personal violation." Carter made these comments even though Katherine Webb, whose beauty Musburger praised, has said she was flattered by the comments.

Four years removed from serving two terms as George W. While in office, Cheney routinely batted away shrill liberal critics who callously vilified him as some all-powerful Sith Lord manipulating the levers of government from above, but in the new Sundance Film Festival

By Thursday afternoon, it was clear that Vice President Joe Biden’s charms weren´t going to be enough to persuade the National Rifle Association to get on board with gun control legislation. Following a 95-minute summit at the White House, the NRA issued a curt press release vowing never to surrender. "We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment," the organization said. Instead, the nation’s leading gun group pledged to take its "commitment and meaningful
