If you needed more evidence that the United States is in full self-destruct mode, you got it last week when it was announced that former Vice President Al Gore had sold his failed cable talk network Current TV to Al Jazeera for $500 million.[SNIP]Nor can you attribute the big cash infusion to his brilliance as an entrepreneur. Current TV was a dismal failure in all regards, and has practically no market value as an economic engine. However, as a propaganda outlet for the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaida and extreme Islam, it is priceless.

HAVANA — Cuban President Raul Castro on Saturday voiced his support for the Venezuelan government, as its cancer-stricken leader Hugo Chavez convalesces in Havana, with no sign of when or if he might return home. Castro made the comments during a meeting with Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro, who arrived in the Cuban capital late Friday to check on his ailing boss, who had a difficult fourth round of cancer surgery last month. Chavez, 58, has not been seen for a month, and his scheduled inauguration on Thursday was transformed into a public rally, with thousands of Chavistas

How NRA’s true believers
converted a marksmanship group

Washington Post, by Joel Achenbach*    Original Article

In gun lore it’s known as the Revolt at Cincinnati. On May 21, 1977, and into the morning of May 22, a rump caucus of gun rights radicals took over the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association. The rebels wore orange-blaze hunting caps. They spoke on walkie-talkies as they worked the floor of the sweltering convention hall. They suspected that the NRA leaders had turned off the air-conditioning in hopes that the rabble-rousers would lose enthusiasm. The Old Guard was caught by surprise. The NRA officers sat up front, on a dais, observing their demise.

With President Obama readying an overhaul of the nation’s gun laws, a liberal think tank with singular influence throughout his administration is pushing for a sweeping agenda of strict new restrictions on and federal oversight of gun and ammunition sales. The Center for American Progress is recommending 13 new gun policies to the White House — some of them executive actions that would not require the approval of Congress — in what amounts to the progressive community’s wish list.

Via InstaPundit, we learn of the latest citizen-generated petition on the official White House site: Eliminate armed guards for the President, Vice-President, and their families, and establish Gun Free Zones around them Gun Free Zones are supposed to protect our children, and some politicians wish to strip us of our right to keep and bear arms. Those same politicians and their families are currently under the protection of armed Secret Service agents. If Gun Free Zones are sufficient protection for our children, then Gun Free Zones should be good enough for politicians. Heh. But really

President Obama delivered an emotional speech about protecting America’s children in December in response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. But the producers at Blackstone Films have turned that speech into a remarkable video to reflect on the duty of Americans to protect our nation’s unborn children. It’s a very powerful video that is sure to spark some controversy. Thirteen years ago, Ray Lewis was in the back of a limousine speeding down an Atlanta street, leaving the chaos of what would become a notorious murder scene. Today, Ray Lewis prepares to play his final minutes in the NFL as one of the most celebrated and iconic players in league history. These are two sets of indisputable facts, facts that don´t seem to connect in any meaningful way. To accept one set, you have to virtually ignore the other. It just doesn´t make sense, no matter which angle you take. How does a man implicated in a double homicide end up receiving a congratulatory bear hug
