Former Gov. Ed Rendell, D-Pa., found a silver lining in the shooting in Newtown, Conn., by observing that the tragedy has strengthened the gun control movement. “The good thing about Newtown is [that] it was so horrific that I think it galvanized Americans to a point where the intensity on our side is going to match the intensity on their side,” Rendell, one of Hillary Clinton’s most loyal allies, said on MSNBC today. Rendell has pushed for gun control apropos of shootings before, although he apologized at the time. “What the Congress ought to do,

Sen. John Kerry has held up Syria as a country that could bring peace and stability to the Mideast and predicted that the now-disgraced government of President Bashar Assad would pursue a legitimate relationship with the United States. Those assertions are certain to draw scrutiny at Kerry´s confirmation hearing to be secretary of state as Assad´s brutal crackdown has plunged his country into civil war.

In the wake of Vice President Joe Biden‘s remarks following meetings with gun ownership groups and the NRA Thursday, in which he emphasized consensus on issues like background checks and high-capacity ammunition magazines, there has been widespread speculation that the package of proposals to emerge from the Biden task force might not include an assault weapons ban. On MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports Friday afternoon, anchor Andrea Mitchell reported that, according to senior administration officials, President Obama is “absolutely committed” to including an assault weapons ban, as well a universal background checks, in his package of proposals.

On Wednesday, Rasmussen Reports released the results of a poll revealing that only "74% of American Adults continue to believe the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of an average citizen to own a gun." This finding is perplexing because the Constitution hasn´t changed. You can actually see it in the National Archives, and right there in the Bill of Rights you will find the Second Amendment. It reads as follows: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms,

Senate Democrats on Friday urged President Obama to do an end-run around Congress and claim the power to borrow more money on the credit of the U.S. The move, should Mr. Obama follow their advice, would likely force another constitutional battle between the executive branch and congressional Republicans. But the Senate Democrats, including Majority Leader Harry Reid, said Mr. Obama should turn to the strategy as a way of circumventing the GOP on the debt limit.

Jerusalem has been transformed into a winter wonderland after heavy overnight snowfall turned the Holy City and much of the region white, bringing hordes of excited children onto the streets. As temperatures plummeted, the bitter winds and rain that have battered the Middle East since Sunday turned into snow, blanketing the Holy Land in white and closing schools and businesses. As dawn broke, at least 10 centimetres (four inches) of snow had settled in Jerusalem, which lies at an altitude of about 800 metres (2,625 feet), giving its pine-covered hills the unusual aspect of a ski resort. Ever since Al Gore sold Current TV to Al Jazeera, the network founded and funded by the oil-rich emirate of Qatar, the former vice president has drawn continuous fire in conservative media. Fox News, the New York Post and The Wall Street Journal, for example, have all castigated Gore, a man of the Left and leading avatar of "global warming," for such hypocrisies as timing the deal to avoid Lefty tax hikes and bagging $100 million in greenhouse-gas money. These same news outlets share something else in common: They all belong to Rupert Murdoch´s News Corp.
