New York — The gig is almost up for one of the eight Monopoly tokens. But which will it be? Iron? Thimble? Top Hat? Or another of their board game buddies? Hasbro is holding a Facebook contest to eliminate one of the eight tokens that identify the players and introduce a new one. Possible new tokens include a cat, diamond ring, guitar, toy robot and helicopter.(Snip) Monopoly´s tokens have actually changed quite a lot over the years. The original version also included a lantern, purse, cannon and a rocking horse. A horse and rider token was used in the 1950s.

Former Alaska Governor and Fox News contributor Sarah Palin has penned a glowing endorsement of the new book from Breitbart News´ Editor-at-Large Ben Shapiro, Bullies: How the Left´s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences Americans. Ben Shapiro has a great new book out called “Bullies: How The Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America.” Ben’s premise about the left’s silencing tactics is absolutely correct. Obviously I’ve witnessed the left’s bullying behavior up close and personal when it’s been directed at those so close to me. And, of course, I’ve seen how nasty it can be for

On Wednesday’s “Special Report,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer acknowledged a link between gun ownership and gun violence, but said Americans would revolt if Congress implemented sweeping, unprecedented gun control legislation. “I think we are going to end up exactly where we started,” Krauthammer said. “We’re probably going to try an assault weapons ban. It will be a little bit tighter, but it didn’t work. It lasted for 10 years … If we had honest debate, the gun owners would admit, ‘Yes of course, guns contribute to homicide.’ … Japan had 11 gun homicides last year.

The most famous eugenicists were the Spartans. Their newborns were allowed to live only if perfectly healthy. The state did not want to be burdened by imperfect babies. The modern eugenicists advocate infanticide as being no different than abortion. According to an article in The Telegraph, a team of medical ethicists linked to Oxford University maintained that “parents should be allowed to have their newborn babies killed because they are ‘morally irrelevant.’ (Stephen Adams, February 29, 2012) The Journal of Medical Ethics published an article, “After-birth abortion: Why should the baby live?”

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was on front pages and TV screens last week when he ripped House Republicans for not passing a Hurricane Sandy relief bill New Year´s Day, the same day they were engulfed with the fiscal-cliff tax bill. "There´s only one group to blame for the continued suffering of these innocent victims," said Gov. Christie, "the House majority and their speaker, John Boehner." GOP Congressman Michael Grimm from Staten Island called the non-vote on Sandy "a betrayal," and this being New York-New Jersey, Republican Peter King of Long Island invoked "a knife in the back."

Just as China, Japan, India, Russia, Norway, and the US Academy of Sciences hone in on the tantalising prospect of safe, clean, and ultimately cheap energy from thorium nuclear reactors, the Europeans seem to be going in the opposite direction. I return to the thorium theme so soon after my column on Monday because a great number of readers share my enthusiasm for the mineral, an optimal way to restore public trust in nuclear power after the Fukushima disaster. Today is the final chance to submit opinions for the 2013 agenda of Europe´s nuclear strategy body. The draft text ignores

The radical Muslim Brotherhood doesn´t just threaten Israel and Mideast peace. According to the Egyptian press, several of its operatives have infiltrated the U.S. government and are influencing policy here. The respected Egyptian magazine Rose al-Youssef has identified at least six Brotherhood-tied agents of influence who have worked into positions inside the Obama administration. The weekly publication, founded in 1925, said the operatives have turned the White House "from a position hostile to Islamic groups and organizations in the world to the largest and most important supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood,"

1st Vs. 2nd Amendment: What public service is performed when newspapers and websites tell criminals where prison guards and retired cops live, and endanger the lives of people who´ve never had so much as a parking ticket? When the editors of the Journal News, a local upstate New York paper, published a mappable database of every licensed gun owner in Westchester and Rockland counties, north of New York City, they thought they were performing a public service after the Sandy Hook shootings. After all, they were warning residents who in their neighborhoods had a gun and

Welfare State: The Congressional Budget Office says the government is on track for another $1 trillion deficit year. That´s the bad news. Worse is that most of it goes to programs that increase government dependency. According to the CBO, deficits in just the first three months of this fiscal year already add up to $293 billion. Which means that, despite Obama´s massive tax hikes, deficits will likely top $1 trillion for the fifth year in a row, and Obama will have added $7.5 trillion to the nation´s debt since taking office. The problem isn´t just

For much of its 236-year history, the federal government has accumulated new power by whittling away at the essential protections afforded to American citizens under the U.S. Constitution. In recent years this wholesale abandonment of our founding principles has rapidly gained momentum — accompanied by a skyrocketing government debt that now eclipses our nation´s annual gross domestic product. "There´s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics," President Reagan said in his farewell address to the nation in 1989. "As government expands, liberty contracts."

Elections have consequences. One of them is continuing US support for the European Project and the process of ‘ever closer union’, following Barack Obama’s re-election last November. Had Mitt Romney won, there would have been a very different approach towards the EU, with a far greater emphasis upon advancing ties with nation states in Europe as opposed to currying favour with Brussels. Romney’s approach was distinctly Eurosceptic, with frequent warnings against America ending up like Europe, with its big government, high tax approach. As David Blair has reported, Philip Gordon, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil and several other South American nations rallied behind Venezuela´s decision to defer the inauguration of ailing leader Hugo Chavez, with the presidents of Uruguay and Bolivia and Haiti´s prime minister traveling to Caracas on Wednesday in a show of support. But some regional neighbors, including Chile, joined the European Union and the United States in steering clear of the legal debate over the swearing-in, which had been scheduled for Thursday. The 58-year-old Chavez in December underwent a fourth cancer-related surgery in Cuba, where he remains. His supporters have postponed his inauguration for a new presidential term,

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration’s long-delayed laundry list of the federal regulations it intends to pursue this year, released under what one lawmaker described as the “cover of darkness,” looks to contain proposals that are more costly than those offered by the president’s immediate predecessors. If fully implemented, the regulatory agenda as it is popularly known could wind up costing the public $123.2 billion, according to an analysis by the American Action Forum, a conservative, Washington-based think tank. The 2,387 tenders also are projected to result in at least 13 million paperwork burden hours.
