Tunis - A Tunisian court has freed a man suspected of attacking the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, due to insufficient evidence, official TAP press agency reported Tuesday, quoting an "authorized judicial source." The suspect, Ali Harzi, was freed at the request of his lawyer for lacking of evidence, TAP said. Harzi, who was arrested in October last year as he attempted to enter Turkey with forged documents, was later extradited to Tunisia where he was detained upon arrival on the charge of belonging to a terrorist network. Following his arrest, Tunisian Interior Minister, Ali Laarayedh,

Freshman Rep. Tom Cotton, a veteran of two wars and with a pair of Harvard degrees, got a pleasant surprise last year that helped him win a very competitive Republican primary — and then a very easy general election. It was a FedEx envelope full of checks that he didn’t ask for, from a group he hardly knew — the Club for Growth. Tucked inside that envelope and several to come were $300,000 in checks from Club members, enough to help lift the 35-year-old former Army captain from obscurity — and 47 percentage points down

Should President Obama be willing to print a $1 trillion platinum coin if Republicans try to force America into default? Yes, absolutely. He will, after all, be faced with a choice between two alternatives: one that’s silly but benign, the other that’s equally silly but both vile and disastrous. The decision should be obvious. For those new to this, here’s the story. First of all, we have the weird and destructive institution of the debt ceiling; this lets Congress approve tax and spending bills that imply a large budget deficit — tax

There’s a new voice in the Palin family making the call for political upheaval, with Sarah’s brother — Chuck Heath Jr. — calling for “the disgruntled citizens of the United States… Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians… persons of every race, religion, economic status, and whoever else is interested, join together and form a new party.” He adds, in a posting on his Facebook page: “I’d simply call it, the American Party. ” Heath — who on a personal website identifies himself as “father, teacher, author” and “Alaskan gold miner” — may want to work on that name.

President Obama has selected an Atlanta pastor and the widow of a slain civil rights leader to deliver the invocation and benediction at his inauguration. Myrlie Evers-Williams, former chair of the NAACP and widow of Medgar Evers, will deliver the invocation, and the Rev. Louie Giglio of Passion City Church in Atlanta will deliver the benediction, the inaugural committee announced Tuesday. Evers-Williams fought for justice for 30 years after her husband, the Mississippi field secretary for the NAACP, was gunned down in his driveway in 1963. She authored three books about their civil rights work. Giglio founded Passion Conferences,

The mysterious and mythical giant squid has never been spotted alive in the deep sea -- until now. A team from Japan´s National Science Museum has captured footage of a giant squid in its natural habitat: nearly a third of a mile below the surface of the ocean. It is the first such video of its kind. Giant squids, which can grow up to 60 feet in length, have been found dead on beaches and photographed in the ocean and -- more often -- on the surface. But scientists have never seen video of the strange creature below the waves

It´s been almost five years since AIG´s stock dropped 60 percent in a day leaving the company doomed to failure, when Uncle Sam swooped in with $182 billion to rescue it. But AIG must have a short memory, because on Monday night news emerged that the insurance company is actually thinking about suing the U.S. government over the bailout that saved it. The board will discuss the idea with shareholders at a meeting on Wednesday. RELATED: The U.S. Made $22 Billion Bailing Out AIG It´s not so much that AIG´s mad the government bailed them out. A Tunisian man questioned by the F.B.I about the murderous attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi has been released by a Tunisian judge due to lack of evidence, according to his lawyer. Ali Harzi, 26, was one of the few known suspects in custody the case, which has been beset by problems stemming from the weakness of the Libyan government and the power of militias in the country - some of whom may have even been involved in the attack. Christopher Stevens, who died in the September 11 attack, was the first U.S. ambassador to be

Outrageous claims made by a professor who specializes in conspiracy theories are set to provoke grieving family by saying that the Sandy Hook massacre may not have happened at all. James Tracy, a tenured history professor at Florida Atlantic University, wrote a lengthy post on his personal blog saying that the shooting that left 20 children and six teachers dead may not have happened the way that it is widely believed, if it happened at all. Backed solely by the erroneous early reports filed during the midst of the horrendous incident, Mr Tracy ´s claim

Planned Parenthood’s most recent annual report for 2011-2012, released Monday, reveals that the abortion and women’s health provider received $542.4 million from taxpayers in government grants and reimbursements — constituting 45 percent of the organization’s revenue. Abortions constituted 3 percent of the services Planned Parenthood provided from October 2010 to September 2011. According to the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, the 333,964 abortions the organization performed in that timeframe represented a record high for Planned Parenthood. The group noted that from 2009 through 2011, Planned Parenthood performed 995,687 abortions.

During his late, lamented campaign, Mitt Romney opined: It’s the economy, and we’re not stupid. Well, maybe. But the economy is a lot of people, millions of them actually, from the assembly line worker to the CEO, and has a surprising way of righting itself despite a plethora of bad policies. Capitalism is a mighty motor; economies rebound when you least expect them to. Not so with foreign policy. It’s in the hands of one man — the president. Yes, Congress has the right to declare war, blah blah. History has shown us again and again who

ORLANDO, Fla. - A College Park couple´s vegetable garden is on the chopping block again after the city threatened fines if they don´t uproot it by Thursday, according to the Institute for Justice Florida Chapter. Jason and Jennifer Helvenston are launching "Plant a Seed, Change the Law," a protest of Orlando’s law, which they say violates their constitutional right to peacefully use their property to grow their own food. In November, Local 6 broke the story about the controversial garden after the city told the Helvenstons their 25-by-25-foot front yard vegetable garden

The news that an entire family of elephants was slaughtered by poachers in Kenya is depressing. I’m a big squish when it comes to charismatic megafauna, the technical term for really awesome big animals: tigers, whales, dolphins, elephants, lions etc. But I’m also a conservative in the purest sense of the word. The conservation of these creatures is its own reward. They speak to our place in the universe, the majesty of God’s creation, the imagination of children, and countless other intangible factors that resonate from the Bible to literature to our own childhoods.

Ted Cruz may have the aura of a future presidential contender, but is he even eligible to run? The newly sworn-in Texas senator and rising Republican star was born in Canada, to a mother who was born in Delaware and Cuban father. That’s triggered a debate about whether he’s eligible for the nation’s highest office — nevermind that he’s been in Congress less than a week. While there’s no legal precedent for Cruz’s situation, most constitutional scholars surveyed by POLITICO believe the 42-year-old tea party sensation would be OK. But there’s just enough gray area to stoke controversy,

Despite repeated claims she is “proud” of her Cherokee heritage, newly minted U.S. Sen. Aides said Warren, who describes herself as part Cherokee and part Delaware Indian, won’t contact historians at the Senate Historical Office to tell them she’s Native American. In an interview before his Tuesday State of the State Address, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie walked back the brutal tongue-lashing he gave House Speaker John Boehner last week over the House’s handling of the Hurricane Sandy Relief Bill. In an interview with The Star-Ledger, Christie said it was unfair to “judge” the Speaker for his decision last Tuesday night to not bring the Hurricane Relief bill to the floor, ensuring that it would not be passed before the end of the 112th Congress. In a speech delivered the following day, Christie said Boehner and his Republican caucus

Georgia hospitals have agreed among themselves to support the extension of a special fee that bolsters the state’s massive Medicaid program. They now face a potentially larger battle — garnering the support of conservative lawmakers who balk at the idea of renewing taxes of any kind. Under the state’s two-year-old hospital provider fee, commonly called the “bed tax,” hospitals pay a percentage of their total revenue to help prop up the state’s Medicaid program for the poor. The money enables the state to draw more than $500 million in new federal matching dollars to aid hospitals that care for large

Former U.S. Rep. Giffords and Mark Kelly wrote in an op-ed published in USA Today that their Americans for Responsible Solutions initiative would help raise money to support greater gun control efforts. "Achieving reforms to reduce gun violence and prevent mass shootings will mean matching gun lobbyists in their reach and resources," they wrote in the column.

Let’s call it Al Goreera. This seems a fitting title for the new network that former Vice President Al Gore is launching with the jihadists’ favorite television outlet: Al-Jazeera. The effect will be to create vast new opportunities for our enemies to propagandize the American people, a key ingredient of their “civilization jihad” against our country. It is hard to overstate the magnitude of this treachery. Imagine the furor that would have erupted if, during the Cold War, one of the United States’ most prominent former leaders had enriched himself to the tune of $100 million by giving

For many in the media, the crowning moment of the Republican Party’s long, campaign-accelerated slide into full-blown, fact-free delusion came on election night just after Fox News called the state of Ohio—and therefore the election—for President Barack Obama. Fox contributor Karl Rove, formerly the Svengali behind George W. Bush and currently the head of the influential Crossroads GPS political action committee, forcefully disputed the projection as numerically “premature.” Exasperated co-anchor Megyn Kelly retorted, “Is this just math that you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better, or is this real?”
